What about the fake off-sides against Greg Ellis... I believe it was the same drive...

Greg was lined up in the neutral zone...I have no idea what he was thinking but his helmet was clearly over the line.

Perhaps he was looking at the same fake yellow line which seemed to be placed farther away than the Steelers needed to get every time they needed a first down, and that's why he was offsides.

Not sure exactly which play you're referrring to, but I saw what I thought were several bad spots in the game. I based my opinion of the "unofficial" yellow line that is shown on TV, so that could be why the spot seemed off. All I know is that on more than one occassion, I saw a player stopped short of the yellow line, and yet the spot gave them the first down. Again, maybe the yellow line was off in regard to the first down.

That "unofficial" yellow line is computer generated based on the marking on the sideline. How much more accurate than that does it get?

The yellow line isn't an official mark.

I'm aware of that. I stated it in my post. BTW, I'm not implying that the spots had squat to do with the outcome of the game, because they didn't.

Yeah, funny how the yellow line was so off in this game :)

Not sure what you're getting at with your response, but I was simply stating that where the runner went down relative to the yellow line, he was short. When the officials took the official measurement, the play got a first down. I'm not saying the spots were bad, necessarily. But based on the "unofficial" yellow line, they were.

Don't know. But I do know the networks go to great lengths to let us all know the line is unofficial.

The refs have been awful spotting the ball all year. That said they do it to both teams, we lost this game because we couldnt move the ball in the 4th quarter and our defense went conservative after the reception vs Newman.

Id rather blame Romo, Garrett and Wade for the loss. Turnovers, bad passes, sloppy play and questionable play calling was the reason we lost this game not the refs.

It looks like Big Ben was about a yard short of the official spot.

Would it have made a difference???

Who knows.

There's really no way a computer generated marking can be as accurate as being on the field.

I've worked the chains at football games before. It's even hard for me to tell from the sideline whether a player has made the first down.

The computer gives you an overhead view, not the view from the field.

I thought the spot was fair.

I'm not blaming the loss on that spot, and it might be "fair" in the sense that you can't expect the refs to be perfect at spotting the ball, but it was a bad spot.

I'm not blaming the loss on that spot, but Roethlisberger's knee and elbow were on the ground and not even the top of his helmet was anywhere close to where they spotted it. And it didn't have anything to do with the yellow line.

I'm not blaming the loss on that spot, but when you watch the replay frame-by-frame and see how he hit the ground and slid forward, there's no question it was a bad spot.

This wasn't the reason why we lost. Even if they had gotten the correct spot, they prolly would have converted on that 4th down with a short pass anyways(like they were gutting us throughout that drive).

However-it never fails to amaze me how Pitt gets all the calls in the big games. Remember XL when EVEN BEN thought he didn't make it into the endzone towards the end of the 1st half(he went over to Cowher to beg him to go for it on 4th, and was surprised to hear subsequently how it was ruled a TD)?
