The Teams who Value DT's were in the Super Bowl

Isn't it funny/ironic how Hargrave was in the super bowl w/ Philly, went to SF and then they were in the super bowl?

How in the world do teams keep undervaluing DT play? Philly paid their WR's and let Hargrave walk, and fell apart. Maybe that wasn't THE reason they fell apart, but it was a huge part of it. You simply cannot replace that DT who disrupts.
Its rare to get a 3T that is as disruptive as a DE. Probably the biggest unicorn in the NFL.

They probably locked in on Carter in the draft, and thats why they felt they could let Hargrave walk. However, considering Carters bust potential and the fact 3T's dont usually hit the ground it was probably foolish to let Hargave walk considering they were contending. The interior was a big reason for their 2022 success

I think Newton was the guy we should have drafted. I think he has Madubuike like potential

Most that they draft are low round picks with a few mid level guys, i forget if it was osa that was a 3rd or not?
Mazi in the 1st, Hill in the 2nd, Gallimore, Osa and Golston in the 3rd, Bohanna in the 6th.

They’ve tried, they’ve failed.

On of the reasons they have failed is that they are fixated on pass rush or quickness. Instead of realizing that the middle of the DL is there to stand up to the run; and give a push inside on the pass,
A DT's FIRST JOB is to stand the center or guard and prevent a big hole up the middle. They have not drafted anyone to do that in the first couple of rounds; always way back in the draft. Mazi frankly to me was just a bad pick. AND once again when you listen to their reasons for drafting him it was more about pass then run

so you think the Chiefs have won their recent Super Bowls because of their DT play?

Hey now, DQ screwed up with Mazi. Now Zimmer will fix that. Mazi leads us to the SB.:popcorn:
I've been all for drafting a DT in the first round since 3-tech is the engine that drives the 4-3, but Mazi wasn't really on my radar as the one to draft. I'm holding out hope that he'll develop, but I was wanting one more like Kalijah Kancey or Bryan Bresee (although some fans here scared me off Bresee). This year, based on who was available, I wanted us to take Jer'Zhan Newton but our offseason made it clear that we would take an OL. Now, I hope Newton turns out to be a bust in Washington.

Hargrave is poor against the run. It’s why the Steelers let him walk. It’s why the Eagles let him walk. For the Niners he had 7 sacks. $21 million per year, 4 years. 49ers were ”foolish” to pay that.

So what is our current DT depth chart or just how does the room even look? Mazi, Osa and udfa?

I don't think Mazi-Light was on anyone's radar.

I agree they are way to enamored with pass rush. Which is why Dan Q and even marinelli had the DL doing way too many stunts, leaving gaps in the line or being prone to being blocked out of the gap.

They fell apart because their QB sucks just like ours does. Sucks less but still sucks.

You need at least 1 Elite DT to win a super bowl.

If not you better have the IOL to contain the ELITE DT on the other team.

or several guys who are all really good and platoon them
Maybe, but you got to have that one guy. Cincy found him in Ogunjobi, and he was a huge reason they made that super bowl. Highly disruptive.

That was part of it, no doubt. However, there were several other reasons, letting Hargrave walk was a big factor.
