I think he paid for premium CB's, just didn't care about RB WR
Nope. Let them walk.

Bill's statement was: "You can never have too many CB's."

Bill tended to get top talent under market value because they wanted to win a super bowl. That's why Revis took less to play there.

Isn't it funny/ironic how Hargrave was in the super bowl w/ Philly, went to SF and then they were in the super bowl?

How in the world do teams keep undervaluing DT play? Philly paid their WR's and let Hargrave walk, and fell apart. Maybe that wasn't THE reason they fell apart, but it was a huge part of it. You simply cannot replace that DT who disrupts.
there is good reason. it helps to stop the run, force a lot of 2nd, 3rd and long, predictable situations. then also pressure the QB up the middle to get out of the pocket.

good DT also goes with pass rush, both teams had good pass rush.

essentially as I said, make the offense predictable (must pass) and then pass rush. sacks. interceptions. etc.

you need a Mahomes to succeed and pull rabbits out of his hat to win.

Would take one of the premier DT over a premier WR and day of the week and twice on Sundays. Vastly harder to come by. You can pick up a serviceable WRs fairly cheap.

I mean we have two perennial 1k recievers(if used correctly) and what looks like a beast of a TE. Probably one of the top groups in football and how has that worked out for us?

Fantasy numbers look great on paper when you dump a **** load of money into the offense but means nothing when the middle of your defense is a limp wet noodle

I would honestly trade lamb in a heart beat for some picks or players if it ment shoring up the defense but I have zero faith in Jerry or Stephen doing it correctly

Zero? You mean in the negative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DT is the 2nd most important/valuable position on a team, after QB of course. The QB position is so important it's in a category all it's own.

Of course Mahomes is the biggest factor for KC. Derdeedee. Can't believe anyone even feels the need to state that, it's so obvious.

Of note: Mahomes didn't win 2 in a row until the team went D w/ a ball control O. Best way to build a team by far.

Our DT depth chart is a disgrace.
And yet you have people trying to tell us otherwise.

The reality of the situation is that the DT rotation was bad last year and they literally did zero to address it this offseason.

The fact our DT play is riding on Mazi Smith turning into a stud and Zimmer turning into Hogwarts wizard is scary.

Year 2, not a bust yet. Except for fans on here where every player sucks.
You didn't really answer the question though. Why sit out FA and not use it to address the pretty shoddy DT situation? Even if Smith rebounds, you need more than one DT. All we have is Smith, who was really bad last year, Odi, a decent but more of a situational type DT, Golston, a DE trying to play DT at like 268lbs and a collection of JAGs and toss aways that you could find at your local 7-11.

Anyone trying to rationalize our DT situation is one funny dude. If their entire strategy at DT is Smith morphing into an upper level DT in Year 2, then whew boy, talk about risk. That's a season crushing decision right there if Mazi doesn't improve A TON.

Who is trying to rationalize it?

I have no idea what they are doing, and neither do they know what they are doing.

I just said he is in year 2, let's see his progress. Yes they should have done more.

You can have a MVP QBs, WRs and RBs but if you cant win in the trenches, you ain't winning. Cowboys of the 90's had a tremendous O-:line and a very dominant D-line. Of course having Emmitt, Troy and Michael doesn't hurt either.

Kevin, you and I go back to the old team forum years ago and I remember us discussing this very topic. We would rather overpay WRs!

Football has always been a simple game. Blocking and tackling are the absolute fundamentals of teams who win championships. We’ve had some really good OLs who can definitely block. But when was the last time we could say we had a DL that could stop the run when you had to get a stop?
Very well said....

This is the same front office (family) that doesn’t even value HCs or QBs. You think they are going to worry about DT?

Mazi and Trysten Hill are the only 2 DTs a drafted by the Cowboys in the 1st or 2nd round since Russell Maryland in 1991.

Hill entered the draft after his junior year at UCF after only starting one game that season.

Mazi is slow off the snap and was slow off the snap at Michigan and never more than a run stopper. I’m not going to definitively claim he’s a bust, but it’s not looking good. But I guess he will start since we really have no one else.

You must have missed the 7th round of this year's draft.

DT addressed.
