Isn't it funny/ironic how Hargrave was in the super bowl w/ Philly, went to SF and then they were in the super bowl?

How in the world do teams keep undervaluing DT play? Philly paid their WR's and let Hargrave walk, and fell apart. Maybe that wasn't THE reason they fell apart, but it was a huge part of it. You simply cannot replace that DT who disrupts.
If that's the case lets Make All 53 Man DT.. :muttley:

Huge factor, absolutely. You don't?
I think if Patrick mahomes were on 14 other teams, they would be in the sb. Place the chiefs dt on 14 other teams, they aren't in a Sb. The chiefs are not like the patriots. Remember the Payriot way? Well it's now the chiefs way, and what that means is when you have the best qb in the league, all the rest of your players can come and go.

Ah, adding parameters. No one said Mahomes was not the biggest factor.

I added no parameters....I just think when you have mahomes, you could pretty much have barney fife playing dt and mahomes would find a way.

They didn't.

However, what you're trying to claim is that other positions don't matter if you have Mahomes, and I strongly disagree w/ that.

The Cowboys in the 70's never went to any of their five Super Bowls without a Hall of Fame DT.

The two starting DT's for 2 Super Bowls in the 90's were drafted #1 and #2 overall. The #1 pick overall was still starting for the 3rd Super Bowl.

They don’t value DTs. Everyone wants to pass the ball every play and go for it on 4th down. Somewhere along the way teams put all the power in the QBs hands, they don’t run the ball and they don’t play special teams anymore. When’s the last time you saw a punter kick the ball out of bounds inside the 5 and a team play defense. Personally I like a good running game.

Big time DTs make big dollars for a reason.

And the difference makers seem to be way tougher to come by than top WR/CB lately.
Absolutely. The teams who are competing for super bowls are laughing all the way to the DT pick while the miracle wishers are taking the WR's prolifically!!!!

Unfortunately I think there is a direct correlation to Jerry's marketing mindset. WR's, RB's, CB's & Edge's are visible, easy to market. DT's not so much.

There is no way all the coaching that has passed thru here have all undervalued the interior. The boss tells them what the priorities are. Even when they try to draft one, they can't get it right.
i’ve said this for years. jerry is about selling jerseys tickets and merch. who does that, QB RB WR TE CB DE/LB. how many OL and DT jerseys do you see selling out. not a lot.

can you explain the "Patriot way," to me?
Absolutely. Draft O and Dlinemen prolifically and go cheap on RB's and WR's. Sift through CB's w/ no 2nd contracts. Keep Brady upright and move the ball consistently by acquiring sharp route runners like Welker and Edleman and Branch. Always have a couple of big run stoppers at DT because sooner or later you will need them.

Don't overpay FA's, get tough yards RB's, always have good S's. By not overpaying FA's you get good backups. By not overpaying WR's you get good players everywhere.

Prolly a thousand other little details, those are some of the main ones.

Players are interchangeable in the Patriot way. Didnt really matter... draft players, players like Welker will be fine, because Brady is here.

DT... churn um, use em in rookie deals, say bye bye, as with everyone else.

Then as soon as Brady left, the Patriot way might as well been called the Jets way.

Fast forward to the Chiefs and Mahomes and suddenly this same approach works. Suddenly a coach that had never won a SB title in 7,435 years as a head coach has 3 SB titles. The Chiefs can afford to let a generational talent like T hill walk and while the offense clearly wasnt the same, the end result is the same. The Chiefs were just now rated as the best GM in the NFL.... bahahhahahahahahahahahaha

Lets call it the Mahomes way.

Your post assumes that the teams primary objective is to play winning football in the playoffs. It is not. We have a WR wearing 88 breaking records. We have a QB breaking records. We have a DE that is the talk of the town. All is good in Big D.

Belly is gone so the Patriot way is no longer relevant. They could go cheap on DT because Belly could make a below average DT play at at B level.

And who did Belly keep? Wilfork and Mankins. And when he dumped valuable Seymour, he got a 1st or two for him.

Who did Belly refuse to pay? WR's and CB's.

I think he paid for premium CB's, just didn't care about RB WR

I have wondered why the punting out of bounds has disappeared; it was not easy but its just as hard as trying to pooch kit; maybe more so
