Let’s face it Ferguson is in a make or break year and I’m not sure he’s a downfield yardage threat both Schoon & Spann Ford are . Sure he’s probably the best blocking TE of the three but man does live on bread alone . I see Goedert and a previous Kelce type and want downfield options for Dak when Lamb is blanketed .

I look at TE this year like the OL. More pressing needs exist at other areas like the entire defense and RB and I expect little to no draft action at this position .

I read where Tevin the Bear might be a costly FA pickup for Dallas at G . Why ? Aren’t Hoffman & Bass good enough to start the other as depth . Save that $$ and potential draft capital for defense .

Ferguson was pretty darn good and schoon seemed like a bit of a bust.
Then Ferguson got hurt and Schoon and Span-Ford took up the slack.

He had some knee issues and a couple of concussions and he was just not healthy most of last year even when he played.

I asked last week should there be a TE discussion and there were only crickets, but the one response was Fergy is the guy.

Fergy ran a 4.81, so he's not getting downfield or running away from anybody. Schoon ran a 4.63, so your gonna be able to take some shots with him. I feel they should have a camp battle for sure.

If TE was our biggest problem, we'd be in a far better shape than we are. That said, as a group they are adequate rather than game changing.

I think Fergy is a little undervalued now. I know he had a bad year, but he really was a little Kittle-lite two years ago, despite his testing. I like Schoon more than most, but he is limited in being straight-linish and lacks that mean/crazy streak that Ferg has. I just think they could use what Schoon does do well a little more.

I will say that my observation in watching the BS as coordinator PCs last year was that he seemed to me a little lukewarm on Schoon but always went out of his way to praise Spann-Ford's blocking and physicality. So I'd keep an eye on him, even though I doubt he's ever much as a receiver. (And fwiw, he heaped praise on Luepke, too, going on about how underrated he was and how lucky we were to get him.)

I wonder though if we get a better difference making player by taking Tyler Warren instead of a WR.

I know wr is a bigger need but if Warren is far and away a better prospect he still gives us another weapon in the passing game.

Warren is an absolute beast. I can't think of many TEs who dominated games like him other than Bowers the last several years. But Warren can block, too.

Normally I ask myself "What Tight End is Jerry and Son going to draft this year?" because we all know every year, a tight end is drafted.... But this year, I totally agree with your mindset....

Yeah man, that's what I've been reading. I dont follow college closely but I'm hearing teams aren't necessarily in love with these wrs. Then you have an elite TE prospect like Warren and to me it seems like it may not be a bad move taking him. I know it sounds crazy though.

This time last year the debate on here was if Ferg would challenge for all pro or not. That was a wild overreaction to his numbers from 2023. Now we seem to be going the opposite direction and souring on him completely. Truth is the guy is still the best TE on the roster right now, and is probably average in terms of other starters around the league.

1. Spann Ford is no downfield threat. Receiving is his biggest shortcoming, which is why he was undrafted.

2. Ferguson is the worst blocker of the three. Schoonmaker is a better blocker, and Spann Ford is the best of the three.

3. I wouldn’t be shocked if we drafted a TE on day 3, but I’m not expecting it. They will give Ferg a chance to prove his Pro Bowl year wasn’t a fluke, and make the decision to resign him or move on.

How I feel about receiver is how I feel about tight end. Is it necessary to spend a day 3 pick on a guy who’s just as good or worse then we already have?

Agree completely. We have a lot of picks to play around with, but we really need to be realistics about hit rates after the first couple of rounds. The vast majority of WR and TEs taken after the 3rd round are not starting caliber and very unlikely to be anything more than long term developmental guys who eventually turn out to be Jalen Tolbert of Luke Schoonmaker if you're lucky.

Fergie looked unprepared. He looked slow. He was a clown. We need to see a big change this year. I think he's immature. Time to be a pro.

Fergie had a down season last year. I think all his injuries hindered him. The season before that, he was ballin. I'm not ready to throw him away just yet. I think he's our best TE.
