The Tight End Bermuda Triangle

Yeah man, that's what I've been reading. I dont follow college closely but I'm hearing teams aren't necessarily in love with these wrs. Then you have an elite TE prospect like Warren and to me it seems like it may not be a bad move taking him. I know it sounds crazy though.
Yes, but we have to take him 2nd Round. That's the formula around here. Then we hope he breaks the 2nd Round curse.

I had read that the concussion had really affected Ferg last year. Hopefully being further removed from it will get him back to where he was the year prior.

yeah, heard the same thing. So we really do not know which Ferguson we will see this year.
Neither of the others are going to be all that. Schoon is not much as a receiver and Spannford is meh. IF the boys are smart they give Ferguson this season to show and if he does not move on. I would not pick a TE in the first three rds unless someone really good falls and even then I would not favor it.

Ferg was one of the top guys I was looking forward to seeing last season. He balled out the year prior and had the "dawg" attitude in him. However last season he was hurt alot and had a down year.

Hopefully last season was just a one year thing

I would have no problem with Dallas taking Tyler Warren in the first. A weapon is a weapon. KC, NE, and SF have all had success using a TE as a downfield weapon. Warren's game might be better suited for Dak than a speedster WR anyway.

I’m confused why fans think our receivers should have been calling out when the starting QB missed half the seasons.

No matter what you think of Dak, you can’t sub in Cooper Rush and think you’re not gonna skip a beat in terms of the passing attack.

I’ve argued the same thing. Warren makes sense in terms of beefing up your run game (12 personnel), putting a big time receiving target on the field (which helps Dak who’s not always a precision passer), and it makes sense roster/salary cap wise because Fergy’s in his last year of contract.

I’m not advocating for it, but I could see the rationale if the board fell a certain way.

I'm from Bermuda and approve this message...

... You aren't wrong though, Dak's best pass is that seam ball. Get a dynamic TE in hear and the offense changes entirely.
Dak’s best pass is the decisive, first read pass. Otherwise it doesn’t matter where he is throwing on the field.

Ferguson is a warrior.

Agree completely. We have a lot of picks to play around with, but we really need to be realistics about hit rates after the first couple of rounds. The vast majority of WR and TEs taken after the 3rd round are not starting caliber and very unlikely to be anything more than long term developmental guys who eventually turn out to be Jalen Tolbert of Luke Schoonmaker if you're lucky.
Exactly. Id rather take those shots at needs and if they fail they fail.

If they want fergy to be a down field threat they have to call a play for him to be down field. The question for me is how the new coach calls plays. Mike kept things close to the los, km went down field more, how does BS scheme up the guys he has? Right now with the talent they have I'd call more 2 TE sets, sneak shoon out the backside seam. But that may change if they land a big fish in the draft.

Ferguson was pretty darn good and schoon seemed like a bit of a bust.
Then Ferguson got hurt and Schoon and Span-Ford took up the slack.

He had some knee issues and a couple of concussions and he was just not healthy most of last year even when he played.
Ferguson is a stud, and once again we keep hitting on the TE position for relatively cheap.

Schoon hasnt been close to Ferguson up to this point.

I wouldn't go for a TE this year either. Ferguson has been a very good TE and in a year where the whole team was not playing well, he didn't either. Few players get the benefit of the doubt from me, but the type of player he has been, I'm not writing him off yet. Schoon showed a little something last year as well. Let it play out and see what we do in 26.

I don't disagree with your thoughts on the players themselves, but the real issue is both guys are free agents soon, Ferg after this coming season. If there is a TE in the draft the Cowboys really like I wouldn't hesitate to pick him up just because either Ferg works out and cost you a lot of money for 2026 or he doesn't and its a position of weakness. Its tough because there are a number of other needs on this team right now that could be addressed early in the draft, but TE is pretty murky as well.

GET A TE IN here that can get down the field like a WR
We have had some in the past but Witten dwarfed any of their development. See Escobar (RIP) and Martellus Bennett. For whatever reason, Dallas prefers blocking TEs and guys who run 3 yard outs. The league has shifted to where these TE's are glorified WRs who can get down the field and make big plays. NE had those in Gronk and Aaron Hernandez. Seems Gates and Tony Gonzalez were some of the pioneers of these kinds of TE's. KC relied on Kelce for years. Philly had Ertz and now have Goeddert. Having a TE who can stretch the field opens so much for your offense.

Ferguson has been good in the past, last year I think the concussions really took a toll on his body. He just wasn't the same player afterwards.

Tyler Warren is getting all the Travis Kelce/Brock Bowers/Pitts comparisons and so if they decided to go that way in the 1st I wouldn't be mad about it at all.
Look at what KC is able to do with Kelce and not much else at WR...Their WR corp is ok but not great and here we would have CD to pair with him so I could see it working out well for Dallas if they pulled the trigger on Warren.
