The Tight End Bermuda Triangle

calm YOURSELF
look at 2023
and neither one of the others is starter material no matter what you claim

23 was two yrs ago . Ferguson lost almost three yards per catch in 24 plus had ZERO TD’s . If you’re happy with that production 7-10 must have been acceptable .

Did you watch 2024 ? I’m sorry your TE didn’t have a good year . If you’re going for a second contract you have to pile good years together otherwise you dip back into the draft for a replacement . Might be the thinking behind using a 2nd on Schoon . Schultz was allowed to let ride into the Houston landscape Ferguson may be next .
No he didn't have a great 2024, but he was Injured part of the year, Schoon earned some of the load while Furguson was our or not at 100%, and he played much of the year with a backup QB who was only capable of moderate passing stats. And even then he clearly wasn't limited 4-5 yards per catch because his average was about double that.

You don't just pretend 2023 didn't happen.

As for the contract, that's a separate matter that factors in more than just his ability.

2023 was not 7-10 2024 . If fans and more importantly the FO and coaches look at 2024 honestly they cannot look at the team or the TE’s and think success .
The team not having success doesn't mean individual players have no value.

Please don’t spin my posts . I said the TE position was the “ Bermuda Triangle “ three of them all at sea lost hardly any contribution in 2024 . If you want to see a better team in 2024 more production has to come from this group .

Fergie had a down season last year. I think all his injuries hindered him. The season before that, he was ballin. I'm not ready to throw him away just yet. I think he's our best TE.
... Ferg was so bad last season, I don't think I can ever trust him again. His pre-snap penalties were a killer in so many spots, he looked like he never lined up at the position before. In addition, and almost as glaring: was how awkward and careless he was with the football.

I think Schoonmaker is a much better player and I think he captures TE1 this Spring and renders 87 irrelevant sooner than later.

They don't need spinning, they need reality. You post as if 2024 was the norm while ignoring injuries to TE's and playing the majority of the season with a backup QB. You claim Ferguson is only capable of 4-5 yards per catch when even the 2024 season where he missed time and played with a backup shows he averaged about double that. You ignore what things looked like with TE's & QB's healthy in 2023. In short, you fabricate a bit and ignore what doesn't suit your narrative.

You also said nobody can look at the team in 2024 and think of success. So yes, that is true, but my comment that it doesn't mean there aren't players that are worthwhile is appropriate. You can't claim the team not having success condemns the TE's but not others.

The reality is to view things fairly you have to look at all factors and not what just fits the narrative you want to convey.

Recent past and current positional outlook:
Schultz was not a bad overachieving starter. Ferguson is about the same. Schoonmaker was overdrafted by 2 rounds with age and injury history.

That's where they're at.

Not only that but in recent years teams making it to the super bowl have had pretty good TEs.
KC had possibly the all-time best TE in Kelce. He wasn’t as good this past season and didn’t have a good SB. KC wasn’t real strong at WR and need Kelce to be productive.

Zero TD’s out of the starting TE in 24 . Dallas needs to do better .

They also had a great QB, RB, OL, DL, WR ... there are a lot of things that go into it
All our championship teams were complete from top to bottom. Our QBs didn’t have to put up all world numbers for us to win. Our offenses in the 70s and 90s leaned on the run and their defense.

That's my point. Yes, we had good TE's, but it's not as if that was the key or what we have to focus on now. It was just part of the overall quality of the team. I think there are other areas where there is more to worry about than TE.

I have seen a number of TEs that were better than Kelce; Gronk being the most recent
