No, it's because he's religious. At least according to some of the members here.Rampage;3411079 said:stuff like this is why i'll be rooting for him to fail.

fail.

The hype for this kid is nauseating.
Hoofbite;3411611 said:So basically you're a hater. Hatin just cause.
SaltwaterServr;3411614 said:Nope. I hate the hype. The media has only begun to ride this train. If he comes out and does even moderately well, they'll crown him the next greatest thing since remote controls and delivery pizza.
I really got sick of the Brett Favre hype because it obscures objective discussions about his games.
Same principle applies here. He's going to be crowned the greatest even if he does well enough to not quite fail.
If he comes out and does Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf good this year or next, then the media will be to quote T-Ro's favorite phrase, "tapping the brakes."
That'll kill the hype and then he can be a football player. I don't want him to fail outright, just go through the growing pains that I think most folks think he'll go through. Then the media can build the hype on his actual NFL performances instead of this carnival they've built around the kid.
Not a hater of the kid, just of this hype machine. If he retired next week, I would not be remotely surprised if the media made him out to be the greatest player to never get to play the game.

I am very religious, and I don't get this. Are you guys saying he is being hyped because he is religious? I have to tell you, I would find that a refreshing reason for hype because it is so unlikely. I'm sorry but from where I sit, mainstream media hate religion and wouldn't want to do anything but mock it.zrinkill;3411663 said:Yup....

I can't argue this, but there is a difference between corporate America and the American media.SaltwaterServr;3411909 said:The religion plays into it, but from the "safe" angle. If I were sitting on the board of a company that would benefit from having a sports personality endorsing it's products, is there really any better safe choice than Tebow? His background is impeccable. He's the perfect wholesome image that you would want your daughter dating or moving in next door. He's had success in the college level and has been in the spotlight already. His image is without flaw.
His religious convictions only reinforce what kind of guy he is. He embraces it not as a found thing, but as an all encompassing lifestyle originating in his family.
ESPN and other hype factories will jump on other bandwagons to an extent, but when you have a seemingly good guy like Tebow, his religious convictions only help to reinforce the image you want to attach yourself to. In an NFL that requires a personal conduct policy to punish its star players for raping 20 year old girls, Tim Tebow is the player you seemingly have to worry about the least.
