Parcells was good enough to take the 5-11 Dave Campo teams (3 years in a row) to the playoffs during his first season with Quincy Carter as the starting QB.
Great point!
Coaching matters
I don't know if Jerry has fully grasped this concept yet.
His HC choices for the most part have really hindered this team.

No interest here in comparing Dak and Tony. Love 'em both.

But as to Romo's supporting cast, it's the OP that is mistaken. After year one, Romo suffered with horrible coaches and coordinators, bad defenses and poor o-lines most every year.

Dak finally this year enjoys the support of a top ten defense, but it's not elite. Dak's playmakers this year have been ok, but not top ten. Zeke is more anchor at this point.

Both Dak and Tony fight uphill against dysfunctional ownership, which permeates a lot of things.

Yep they both played for a subpar GM
Which lead to mostly subpar headcoaches.

It’s a waste of time arguing about Romo. The fans that were head over heels for him will tell you he never had any good teams with the Cowboys and if he had some of the teams Dak had we would’ve won at least two Super Bowls. If he played anywhere else but with the Cowboys he would’ve won championships. That’s what the Romo lovers will tell you. Lol

There is all types of ways to look at it

Romo was in a really good division for most of his career
Brady was in the worst division in the league for most of his, and got a free run at the playoffs every year

I am not comparing the 2, but would brady have made it to the superbowl as much as he did if he played in the east, and then if he made it to the playoffs had to go through drew b. or rodgers etc. He had to go through manning and ben, but he got that free shot

If romo played in the worst division, and had a free run at the playoffs, would he have gotten to a superbowl.

I don't know, but I go by what i saw, he was pretty good. and for most of his career, it was either him winning it or it was a loss. Those last 3 games of the regular season in the east were pretty much all out, winner take all, everything on the line, last men standing play off games
If Brady would have been in the NFC East or AFC North he would have been gone from the league 10 years ago.

What about T.O. and Witten on the 2006 and 2007 teams?

Witten was always a bit overhyped, but yes individually you can easily say T.O. was the best receiver. Still your talking a 2 year sample size, last year Romo would of dreamed of having the weapons Dak did. Last year, was the best offensive skill positions I have seen the Cowboys have in my lifetime.

Funny, young whippersnappers know everything, I'm sure we all knew everything when we were young. Stats don't mean anything when you were witness to real football before all the wussy rules were put in place to protect the owner's high dollar investments. I prefer the old-time NFL when the QB and Receivers were just another player in the game. No baby rules to make sure the defense did not hurt your precious star. Only the absolute strongest men played in those days.
And when you look at the physical toll it took on those players, including CTE, physical deterioration of their bodies and a shorter lifespan, you can understand why they made some of the rule changes. While I think they over corrected in some areas, I think it is good they have improved player protection.

Today's players, like in the past still represent the fastest and strongest athletes out there.

Not sure how a first ballot HOF'er could be considered overrated?

What does Romo have to show? Only 2 wildcard wins.

The 2007 13-3 Cowboys had 13 pro bowlers but went one and done.

QB Tony Romo RB Marion Barber WR Terrell Owens TE Jason Witten T Flozell Adams G Leonard Davis C Andre Gurode LB Greg Ellis LB DeMarcus Ware CB Terence Newman FS Ken Hamlin SS Roy Williams K Nick Folk
Aaron Rodgers won 1 super bowl despite being the best QB in the league a lot of the years he played. Teams win Super Bowls, not QBs. I get that a QBs legacy is determined by Super Bowls with a few exceptions like Marino, Fouts, and Moon. But if the question is was Romo good enough to win a super bowl he absolutely was. Probably wins one if Crayton simply kept running that route against the Giants

I like Dak. He isn’t a natural passer and his QBR is helped quite a bit by his running, but that’s true for a lot of QBs now. I think Romo has a shot at the HOF with a long career as the #1 broadcaster. His stats stack up for guys in his generation — definitely better than Eli who may get in because of some lucky passes and great DL pass rush.

Let's take a look back at some of the fine starting o-linemen in front of Romo:
Cory Procter, Phil Costa, Montrae Holland, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Ryan Cook, Nate Livings...supported by tight ends like James Hanna, Martellus Bennett and John Phillips

On defense during the Romo years who can forget starters like Igor Olshansky, Stephen Bowen, Alan Ball, Keith Davis, Kenyon Coleman, Abram Elam, Danny McCray, Kyle Wilber, Nick Hayden, George Selvie, Jeremy Mincey, Greg Hardy, Tyronne Crawford, J.J. Wilcoxm, Jack Crawford

Yes all these were Cowboys starters. Unbelievable.

Good defense in 2007 with pro bowlers
LB Greg Ellis
LB DeMarcus Ware
CB Terence Newman
FS Ken Hamlin
SS Roy Williams

I guess the Cowboys needed pro bowlers on the DL too
Pro Bowls mean nothing. They are a popularity contest. AP all pro is the true measure.

Romo had one really good defensive unit, that was in 2009. The rest were middle of the pack at best and bottom third in general.
