Not recognizing when it's time to restructure a bit.

Remember when the Colts offered up a 2nd for Mike Jenkins? And that was after we paid Carr big money and traded up for Mo. Jerry has absolutely no eye on the future. He's just too football dumb.
I think the media de-bunked that.

Let‘s face it- the Cowboys front office has two very bad habits:
  • BAD HABIT #1. Over-valuing our own players.
    • Think about it. We have a whopping two wild card playoff wins with the “cornerstone” talent we’ve built with the best of our last 7 drafts. For years, our front office has looked at guys like Zeke, Dak, Cedee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, and several other players and thought, “We have to keep these guys because look at what we’ve accomplished with them.“
    • We haven’t accomplished that much with them.
    • I‘m not saying all of those guys should be traded or cut. But I am saying THEY AREN‘T ENOUGH.
  • BAD HABIT #2. Not being dissatisfied enough with lack of playoff results. The Jones boys apparently are satisfied enough with what they've been getting because if they weren’t satisfied, they would be more aggressive to make changes.
    • If you really want to win a championship, you look at your team with a critical eye, not just assume all the guys you think are good just need another year to “get lucky”.
    • SJ has been saying lately ad nauseum that we are “just a click away”, just need “little more juice”. He and Jerry both act like they haven’t sniffed a championship in 27 years because of “bad luck”.
In my eyes there is only ONE player on this team who is untouchable- Micah Parsons. Literally everyone else is available if by moving them we could get better.

Over-valuing talent means you don’t have the critical eye to see beyond what you like about any player’s past performance. And if you truly want to win a championship, you have to stop thinking, “We’re really close, we just need to get lucky”.
Number 1 is silly. We haven't lost/under performed because of the Zeke's and Lamb's and Diggs of the world. It has been lack of talent at positions 10-53.

LVE is a good example of over valuing a player. LVE had a decent year because he was going to be cut loose this year, but because he had a little giddy up in his step JJ got sucked into signing a player who has battled injuries most of his career. This is such dysfunctional organization that is in dire need of a REAL GM, who has the ability go out and find the players that are needed to get to the next level.

LVE is a good example of over valuing a player.

Cowboys Front office valuation of LVE is right in line with consultants and gurus around the league. You might not like it, but experts around league have zero problem with that extension.

LVE's PFF score last year was 70.8, which makes him slightly above average. He had 83 tackles. His contract, 5.5 mil per year is right in line with production. Not a great player, not a weakness. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone around the league who would say Dallas has over-valued LVE in this extension.

Wagner is no doubt better but would have cost nearly double that, and he's about to turn 33.

LVE actually played really well last season and the run defense became notably worse when he was not in the lineup.

He also signed back relatively cheap, 2 yrs $11 million..................that is not a lot in today's NFL.

David Long signed with the Dolphins for the same amount and he is a very similar player to LVE, he even missed 5 games last year with the Titans so he is injury prone as well like LVE.

Look, I agree this organization can be dysfunctional, but LVE's contract is not proof of this. It is exactly what a similar player in a similar position with similar stats and similar injury history got.
