The Video Game Thread

Hey @slammed where did you pick up your Xbox if you don't mind me asking? Think I will get the digital version for 3rd party games like Cyberpunk and AC Valhalla. Looking it up now I see the gougers on Ebay asking 800-1000 (not that pressed) but like the idea of the digital version. Just got told I can stay home until Jan so thinking of it doing it right.

I got mine right off the Microsoft website. Somehow got an order in during the pre-order rat race. What is funny, and kind of annoying, is that I have friends getting shipping confirmation e-mails sent to them and I have not seen any movement on mine. I actually called Microsoft today to make sure everything was good, and apparently it is, but mine seems to be on the backend of their ordering. So, there is a chance I may not see mine on the 10th. I'm a little annoyed but as long as I get one is all that matters.

I've read rumors all over the internet on who will and who won't have release day consoles available to order, so at this point, it's anybody's guess on who is giving out good information. I would just keep your eye on the retailer websites and see what you find.

I would think you being next door from WA would give you dibs (prob made in Mexico lol) I will take a look at their direct website though too and appr the info. They're hinting at some being avail on the 10th and 12th so am waiting to see like you said, etc.

You asked about the Switch issues recently and it really comes down to being a less powerful platform than the others, so we always have framerate issues there and a lot of our tech has to be adjusted for them. Their submission process is strange and slow as well.

One thing I will say is that when a game like Cyberpunk is delayed because of all the platforms it has to ship on, I know exactly what that means. The red tape you have to go through is indescribable. Each of the platforms handles certain submission things well and other things horribly. If they could all get together and agree on adopting the good parts of processes, games would come out months ahead of the scheduled releases. If you don't hear from me again, it's probably because I was murdered by a Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo hitman. Tell my family I loved them.

I would get the PS5 if you can find one for the games. If the controllers are an issue you can generally get modified ones that fit bigger paws or help with joint stuff, etc. Age aint nothin man, long as your hands/eyes hold up (knock on wood). Least I'm hoping

My hand/eye coordination is good as long as I keep my eyes on my lap.

It would be fun to job shadow you for a week. Behind the scenes is always fascinating. I've read the industry can be really tough (I read an interesting article on the pressures of Treyarch) but I'm sure there has to be some levels of it that are still great/fun to work on. To be part of creating something such as a video game has to be rewarding.

The bureaucracy in that last sentence would be frustrating. Can we share a template guys? But see we each have highly paid software specialist that handles "that" for us, etc. Already know how those convos go. Appr the insight though man deftly.

It can be brutal at times but where I work is a little different. I've worked at 7 game studios, some working on AAA titles and it's night and day compared to here. We don't get put through the extreme crunch periods here. I do enjoy the creative process still.

The local schools come to our studio for field trips. I always feel bad because it's not as interesting as it sounds. They probably like the artist's presentations the most.

One is set in the ancient/classical era, the other the future in the vein of Supreme Commander or Total Annihilation. And the best part about them is they are FREE, you may skirmish against the AI or play actual multiplayer against humans.
