Those graphics are crispy making halo look like Oregon Trail. I tried to play a couple of original Xbox games for that backwards compatibility but the graphics made me give up unf. The 360 games aren't too bad yet, but anything bf that hurts my eyes now :(
Yeah it's crazy. I remember playing Need for Speed Underground 2, on the original Xbox, and my buddy and I talking about how great the graphics were. This was in like 2004-2005. We've definitely come a long way! It makes it exciting to wonder what is coming down the pipeline in the future

Anybody try the Anthem demo yet? I played it for a bit last night. Kind of reminded me of Destiny in some ways. I didn't play it long enough to give a real good review on it. Loading times for the game seemed super long for me though. But the graphics, good lord, look at the detail in the stone. I took this on my phone from the TV screen too. It still blows my mind the leaps we're making in graphical technology in such short strides.

For comparison here is what the graphics looked like in 2001 (Halo).

I played a few hours between this weekend and last weekend. I really like it. The game has less hand holding than Destiny in building your load out, which I appreciate. High level play is a lot if teamwork and coordinating ability combos.

Watched a TED talk today about playing video games and all the studies coming out showing there are actually very cognitive benefits in doing so. Anyway, they dropped this in the middle of the video and it just floored me.

:omg:

I completely agree that it has cognitive benefits because it triggers non-standard responses in the brain that have benefits in many applications. The biggest issue I have with video games is overall they aren't productive and foster unproductive behaviors. So, those newly flexed benefits never get used for productive purposes.

Like NFL players, only the best of the best make money at video games. Outside of that, there is no value in playing them above recreation. Recreation doesn't pay the bills, so spending too much time playing them isn't productive. (again, like football players. They spend tons of time working on a skill, and 99.999% never even see the NFL)

So I gave Just Cause 4 a second chance, and, I'm enjoying it much better. I still think the objectives are a little under-explained but I'm starting to slowly figure things out. I read that they released a patch to improve graphics and I believe it. The game still doesn't look super superb but it looks much, much better than when I tried it day 1. It's growing on me a bit. Not sure I will purchase it but it has been worth getting from Gamefly. Just a heads up to anybody still thinking of trying it.

Just got operational flashpoint (2001) on steam for .99! Due to copyright issues it was renamed called Arma: Cold War Assault on steam. It’s been formatted to run on modern PCs and even tho it’s kind of aged poorly, it’s just as fun to play and has no issues at 1080p on windows 10!

If you like realistic military combat simulators you will enjoy it a lot! There are 2 expansions, resistance and red hammer but the steam version only comes with resistance. There is a work around for red hammer, I’ve already tested it and it works.

Some YouTube channel did a documentary on the game and the history of the developers

Here’s some gameplay footage

Operation Flashpoint rocks, the Ai and some of the mission could be brutal.

Anyone play Apex Legends? That's all I'm seeing on youtube lately. Supposed to give Fortnite a run for its money? The game looks smoother and less cartoonish.

The funny thing about Apex Legends is that its being promoted as "a small studio built this despite EA" yet a mass-media marketing campaign was saturating the internet even before the game launched and yet the game was just announced.

Meaning, no one knew about it, yet the moment it was announced there were articles on it everywhere on hundreds if not thousands of sites.

In other words, despite the narrative being pushed, you can tell EA threw their marketing weight behind this and the media, likely some paid for their rah-rah efforts, were all too happy to take the money and perpetuate the (not-so-)organic popularity of the game thereby self-fulfilling the hype.

I'm not saying its not a good or great game, but I saw articles on the game on several sites I visit including some where it was "stuck" to the top (aka: above the fold) section of a site for a prolonged amount of time even before most people had heard of the game.

I think it is more likely if the game is as good as the hype makes it out to be, it will ultimately acquire more PUBG players than non-PUBG Fortnite players (meaning people who play Fortnite that never played PUBG).

Add to that the game has no Nintendo Switch or mobile support and it will be hard-pressed to surpass Fortnite beyond the initial mass-marketing launch phase.

The surge of a FREE game is not surprising no matter the numbers downloading and playing it. The real test is when games like Fortnite manage to hold on to those players months later.
