Well, played my first ever online race in Gran Turismo last night. I'm officially hooked. I had a blast. For some reason, when I had the last Gran Turismo Sport game, I just never had any interest to play online. I have a few friends with Gran Turismo 7, and they were talking about racing online and told me I should try it. I finally did, and I have to admit, I've been missing out.

When you race in the game, against the A.I., they always race so flawlessly. You have to race perfect laps to have any chance in some of the circuits. Online, other cars/drivers were taking corners too wide, sliding through corners, accelerating slowly through corners, etc.etc. It was super refreshing to see human error on the track and made a pleasure to race against. My first race (I missed the cutoff time for time trials) I started in the back of the pack, at 18, and ended up climbing my way to 6th place. Good enough to make me feel good about my race.

I may have to build up my online reputation and take part in one of their championships. Sounds like fun.

Also, you can lost in their photography/scenery modes. You can snap some great looking pictures for a game.

Im trying to think back to a time in my life that I have played 2 games simultaneously and had a great time with both. GT7 is as good of a racing game since I was spending countless hours trying to beat a couple friends hot time laps on GT3. Then couple that with the joy that battlefront 2 is bringing me? Im like a teenager again lol. I wish my thumbs and wrists were that young again, but for realzz battlefront is tons of fun if you don’t take it too seriously.

I have been wanting to get a racing game to play on my ultrawide gaming monitor.

Do you have a steering wheel setup or using a controller?

Would this be the racing game you recommend?

I was leaning toward Forza Horizon but that was just based on online reviews.

I think it depends on what you want from a racing game.

GT7 is more authentic when it comes to the racing experience. If you are really into tuning and trying to beat yours and or friends times, then I'd go with GT7. Heck, even beating the computer AI is a challenge. It's pretty hard, but can be very rewarding (even just shaving a half second off your time). I think a racing set up works best for it, as you'll wear your thumbs out.

Forza Horizon is more of an open world racing experience, for the more causal racing fan. It's a beautiful game with more cars available than GT7, plus more types of terrain to race on.

Personally, I love the GT series but wouldn't argue with someone who felt the same about Forza. Both great experiences and I don't think you could go wrong either way.

DasTex beat me to it!! It's exactly what he said. Gran Turismo is definitely for the more "serious" racer. It's a driving simulation, so some of the objectives can be tough, and it really focuses on the driving. It does have a fantastic photo mode though, that you can get lost in, so if you like that kind of thing it can be fun too.

Forza Horizon is more of an arcade racing. It has a gigantic map to cruise. Races aren't quite as serious feeling, and the races are a lot less realistic (think racing down the side of a mountain lol). It is a very fun game though, and also as DasTex said, it's a beautiful game. Both Forza Horizon 4 and 5 (both on Game Pass btw) just look great.

Oh, and I still use the ole' console controllers. I've trained myself to "drive" with them the best I can. I never thought much about getting a steering wheel, however, now that I've been getting deeper into Gran Turismo it has crossed my mind. It could be fun. My buddy plays with a steering wheel/chair setup and loves it. For me, I just don't know where I'd store a steering wheel/chair setup. lol

Has there been an update on Forza 8?

I remember back when I had both a PS and Xbox I would get both GT and Forza. Always thought GT had the upper hand on the actual racing aspect but Microsoft spit out new Forza games at a way better pace.

Horizons is a great arcade car game with an immense free roam. Always wished they could combine the open world of FH with Forza tracks. Like instead of Horizon outposts it could be certain race tracks you unlock and race on in different classes and then when you don't want to race you can free roam the open area.

Been playing COD MW remastered on the XSX after not playing it for a bit on the older console. Really nice jump up in detail. Replaying Hunting Party, Embassy and other missions on realistic.

It's been super quiet on the Forza 8 news. I think it's crazy they have had 2 Horizon games since the last Forza racer. I am hoping they have something fantastic up their sleeve. Let's be honest, I love Forza, but with Gran Turismo 7 they have some fierce competition. GT7 is getting hammered by the community right now for the microtransactions and the small change you get for completing races, but when you strip all that away, the basic game is really good IMO.

BTW everybody, add me on PlayStation (SlammedZero), especially if you play Gran Turismo 7. I'm just looking for more track times to pit myself against. I promise I won't bug you to play games. lol I say that because I had a co-worker add me a couple years ago, and I had to start hiding myself online because every time I logged on he was inviting me to play whatever game he was on at that moment. I don't mean to sound like I am unsocial or don't enjoy playing games with people, but there is a time and a place. I'm not looking to party up every time I fire up my console. lol

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is the best the Borderlands series has been since the peak of Borderlands 2. Definitely pick it up if you’re a fan of the looter shooter games.

The humor is great, and the character building options give you a ton of flexibility.
