So I bought ER for PS5. After I finish Ragnarok this week I'll play that. I was wondering will I be lost without playing the other Dark Souls/Bloodbourne/Sekiro games first? Should I go back and play one of them before starting ER?
No, they’re completely different series and stories. The only thing they share is similar combat systems and an overall tough difficulty.

You’re going to love it. It totally lives up to the hype.

Thx. Which one is the hardest?
Agree with @Lutonio that Sekiro is the hardest because that game relies on parrying and the timing on your part needs to be so precise; it almost becomes a rhythm game tbh. The other Souls type games you can learn the opponent move sets with a few attempts or just become OP and revisit a boss after leveling up a bit if needed.

Elden Ring was the easiest I have played of all the Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro games because you can become OP and revisit bosses if needed due to the open world nature of it. Nioh is another really tough one done by the Ninja Gaiden folks and on-par with Sekiro in terms of difficulty if looking into the souls genre.

GIVEAWAY: F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch on PC from Epic 'til 10am Monday.
That acronym is crap. Why does it need an acronym? Why not just call it Fist?

You called it! The name really took the legs out from this game bc it could've done much better! I don't really like the metroid type games, but this one has great combat and good story.

GIVEAWAY: Mortal Shell on PC from the Epic Games Store until 10am Thursday.

Bringing the heat brotha! Loved this game too (think I play too many games :D)

This would be the perfect game for people new to the souls style. It's not as hard and not as in-depth, but great combat and setting. Really liked the blocking mechanic that lets you briefly leave your body (hollowing) without taking damage/block attacks.

Could not agree more. It was a fun game mechanic and the aesthetic was great.

Like shooting yourself in the foot at the beginning of a race with the starter pistol.

Thx. Which one is the hardest?

Sekiro not having traditional stat leveling or build diversity like the other games makes it pretty tough. In the other souls games you can level up your character to become OP, or find a build that trivializes the game (magic is very OP in some entries, strength builds can 1-shot most common enemies, some armors and shields let you tank damage, etc).

In Sekiro you need to master the combat system they give you, and each encounter is an earned victory. It’s the slickest combat system out of all the games and feels incredible when it clicks, but the learning curve can be steep.

Demon’s Souls is probably the easiest combat (the bosses are a joke) but the game can be really confusing for newcomers. It’s pretty cryptic and has some bizarre systems that are unique to it that make progression difficult.

Elden Ring’s combat is tougher than Demon’s Souls but you have so much freedom as a player in terms of what, when and how you play that you essentially control how challenging your experience is. That’s somewhat true for all the mainline souls games, but the Open World design of Elden Ring makes it even more so.

Well, I said I wasn't going to do it, but I plunged ahead and pre-ordered the PS5 VR2. It's a lot of money, but I justified it by comparing it to the price of the PS4 VR1. When it comes down to it the VR1 was expensive as well and not nearly as technical advanced as the VR2 is. I really, really, really hope the game studios can/will convert original VR1 games to the VR2. There are a few VR1 games I really enjoyed playing, but as most know it was a PITA to set up with all the cables, extra equipment, and the camera needed to get started, so many times I just didn't bother.

I think the first game I play will be Resident Evil Village. I think a horror game like that will really kick butt in VR. I know RE Biohazard did for the VR1.

Excellent. I think I'll be right behind you. Already warned the wife about it. Lol

Unfortunately, from what I've read, there are going to be little to no backwards compatibility from the VR1 to VR2, which is a bummer. I enjoy some of those games i.e. Astrobots VR.
