The Video Game Thread

They have a Nintendo and Super Nintendo official emulator “app” on there you can download for free (but you have to sign up for their yearly $20 subscription), and those apps come preloaded with some classic games. While they do have some of the basic classics, the rest of the games feel pretty random, and there aren’t nearly as many titles as I think there should be....or as many as they could realistically add.

They’ve also added apps for N64, Genesis, Game Boy, and I believe even GameCube, but of course those require the more expensive tier.

Now, there might be a way to sideload classic Nintendo games onto the Switch, but I haven’t gone down that rabbit hole to see if that’s actually possible.
I can run emulators if I just want to run games on older consoles, especially the games I bought and enjoyed on those systems.

Now if they ever come up with a way to truly upscale those old games for modern resolutions, that would be something worth paying for a second or third time.

Beyond that though, I'm not risking it with mods or sideloading.

I was asking more though about Nintendo Switch games that still run well with a first-gen OLED Switch.

That's fair. It is pretty easy to find old Nintendo games pretty much anywhere else. lol

I honestly never dove as deep into my Switch as I originally thought I would. Pick it up to play on a classic game once in awhile, but I've only played a handful of games on it really.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (absolutely loved it)
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (still good, but not as strong IMO)
Super Mario's Bros U Deluxe (super fun....it's a Mario game)
Super Mario Odyssey (different....but fun)
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (fun puzzle game)
Mario Kart 8 (it's Mario Kart lol)

I think that's about it. lol

Yeah, I mentioned Zelda and Super Mario games in my previous post as I knew about those :D

Was just wondering if there were games other than those.

I took a PTO day Friday and the kids are spending the weekend with my parents. Wife knows what’s up with the game coming out.

Gonna be 3 days straight of just playing this. I cannot wait.
The review embargo for Crimson desert will be lifted this afternoon. Going to watch some videos tonight then make a pre-purchase. PC version it will be

Yeah some really mixed reviews. Gonna be interesting. Sounds like the adventure and exploration are very good but there are some flaws to the game.
Was just talking to a buddy of mine about some of the stuff Ive been reading. It looks something in between Dragon Age Inquisition and Skyrim/Oblivion. Deeply flawed games that were fun, and still considered excellent. Thats kind of the expectations I have going

Feels like every new release gets dragged through the media cycle before players even get their hands on it these days. I think sometimes it just comes down to trying it yourself and seeing what you think. Borderlands 4 got a lot of criticism, for example, but I ended up liking it quite a bit.

The three biggest Ive seen are story, protagonist depth and a slow start. If the combat is as good as it looks, I think it can make it up

Yes I agree that seems to be the issues. Which actually fascinates me because I’m actually fine with a mid story and characters if the exploration, combat and puzzles are good.

But everybody has different preferences which could be why the reviews are all over the place.

Some places and reliable YouTubers are saying it’s like 9/10.

Some are saying it’s mid

Yes indeed. In the end it’s probably fair. I don’t think people should hand out the “masterpiece” label too often and save it for the truly amazing games. Even then no game is perfect.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of my favorite games ever but there are flaws with that game that people can point out if they want.

One of my favorite games ever, personally, is TOTK. I freaking had so much fun with that game. Yet the storyline and boss fights are all meh and the combat gets TOO easy once you’re upgraded. So even that game which to me was AMAZING, has legit flaws for other people to bring up.

Watched several review videos last night and went ahead and purchased it on Green Man Gaming for 59 bucks. Looking at some of the NPCs and combat you can definitely tell this is made by the same people that did Black Desert online. The map is enormous, some amazing exploration and landscapes as well as extremely difficult boss fights and puzzles. Watched a guy playing in 4k cinematic mode and the game was using 16 GB of system Ram and around 11 GB of video RAM. Seems to be fairly well optimized
