I thought they looked fine today. Everybody says it's San Francisco. So what? Every game someone's gotta find something wrong with the win. Butler wasn't perfect but they won the game. Williams showed up. And they were trailing by 14 after the first quarter. I know I enjoyed it

A popular opinion on this board is that WR is one of our biggest needs going into next season, but I disagree. This game just confirmed what I already thought - the trio of Beasley, Butler, and T-Will is good enough to get by.

Dez likely hangs onto that back fade thrown to Butler in the endzone to put this game on ice, and that's why he makes the big bucks.

But Butler showed a lot of good things today. He consistently got a clean release (a critical trait for outside WR's), gets separation at the end of his routes (his TD), and showed a large catch radius. We all know how stupid the taunting penalty was, but I think everyone is forgetting just how sick the actual catch he made before the penalty was. He climbed the ladder and looked every bit of the 6'3" athlete he is.

T-Will was open all game. Should've had a bigger day on the stat sheet, but Dak's accuracy rolling to his right was shaky.

Beasley is Beasley. One of the best slot WR's in the game and predictably got more attention today from the defense with Dez out.

Dak wasn't out there taking coverage sacks left and right. As well as he played, he actually left some big plays out on the field today. The way this trio got open today should give us confidence that the passing game will be alright while Dez takes his time rehabbing.

With Dez, Beasley, and Witten the next receiver is really the 4th option so I agree with your point. Also when you look at the Cowboys of the 90s they didnt have a great number 2 either. I know you can point to Alvin Harper, Kevin Williams, etc. But none of them were superstar wrs. Though it would be nice to have a game breaking number 2 receiver, its not essiential to win. When it does work it seems to be a scenerio where you have an older veteran still productive, for example Chris Carter and Randy Moss. By the time the younger receiver is due for a new contract the older receiver is either retiring, or his skills are declining and moves onto another team. With that said I dont think they should invest a 1st rounder on a WR in the first round the next few years, unless there is tremendous value that falls. Anything beyond a 2nd is perfectly fine.

Wide Receiver is the most grossly over rated and overpaid position in Football. WR's are the by product of far more important elements of any offense. They look great on the highlight reel and thats all. If not for the OL and the left Tackle in particular and the RB..TE and of course the QB and just as importantly the play calling the ball would never reach the sizzle player or the highlight reel. The last game proved the real value of Dez Bryant. The club won...easily without the dramatic and distracting Bryant and the road ahead is much smoother without this guy. Sizzle sells...but the substance of defense wins when it really counts.

Dang...I wish I could "like" this post a dozen times.

SMH. I love it when a guy sitting on his couch eating Cheetos bad mouths players that just helped our team win.

I love it when a guy who doesn't agree with a guy instantly paints a mental picture to make him seem inferior. Hide behind your keyboard all you want fella.

Personally, I prefer a WR that can catch with his hands instead of his body all the time. Also, the Claiborne pick saved Butler. He killed a drive with quite possibly the dumbest penalty to date in NFL history. Also, Dez would've caught the TD that he dropped to ice the game.

Put me in the group that would rather have Dez in the lineup. You can sit back and waffle from week to week on your feelings.

I never said I prefer Butler over Dez. We won with "stupid" players, as you call them, and a win is a win. Maybe you would be happier if we lost so you could really unload on the Cowboys.

Not the biggest T Will fan but being at the game, both sideline passes that Dak missed him on, he was wide open the whole way through.

We desperately need a vertical threat to stretch the field. That changes the game and makes the running game effective...the short passing game more effective. Being able to threaten deep 2, 3, 4 times changes everything. And we don't have a single receiver who can run away from a defense. Not one.

I might be OK with Butler > T.Wil but we need another threat. Aside from a WR in the top 3 rounds...we can spend all the draft picks and free agency money on the defense, IMO.

I dunno. Butler flashes but he inconsistent as all get out. I haven't seen anything <yet> that makes me think he'd be a better #2 WR than Williams.
He has higher upside. He needs more snaps to build that consistency. Hard to do it for some when you only get a couple routes a game and you don't know when they are coming. Butler isn't going to make one forget about WR in the draft or free agency if one is available for the right price....but he should/can/hopefully will be more than a bit player for us in time. He needs playing to prove to us one way or the other.

I for one would like to see Escobar line up as a wide out as a big body receiver. Cant hurt to try it and he wont blow by corners but would still be a hard match up do to size and height, got nothing to loose even if they tried it a few snaps per game. Could be another safety blanket for Dak instead of Beasley and Witten. Would also be a big downfield blocker if Beasley gets loose again. Anyone know if Escobar is hurt or just in the dog house

I really like Butler a lot, obviously I can do without him getting a 15 yard penalty, and he needs to pull that ball in, but he has ability.

If we pick a WR with our 1st round pick next season, I will burn down The Star.
