Kicking a 57 yard FG on the opening drive instead of pinning them deep or even going for it

Kicking that FG was the worst available option & set us back from the jump. I still can’t believe an NFL coach would opt to kick a 57 yard FG on the opening drive .... even if you make it 3 points is negligible at that point in the game, but the field position is invaluable

That poor decision by Garrett set us back from the jump & one of the worst coaching decisions I’ve seen in my life

Fair catch trumps that one

Na chief

It was stupid as hell but the team had 55 minutes to make up for it.

The fair catch fiasco was 1000x worse. You have him fair catch just to set up a pathetic Hail Mary?

EXACTLY!!!

Austin has about 177 punt returns in his career. I give him the option, if you think something is there and can take the least amount of time, you go. If there is nothing, fair catch and conserve time.

We get the ball on the 25-30 there at worst

Now that's on JG for sure.....trusting Maher is a mistake anyway....instant field position.....Zimmer & his boys were laughing all game looking across the field.

That fair catch?? lol 1 play that could properly sum up the Garrett era. How moronic of a call was that? Sacrificing a few seconds for another 15/20 yards. Just ridiculous. That’s the type of poor decisions we’ve been seeing for a decade so it wasn’t that surprising after you got over the initial shock.

Wholeheartedly agree. That’s a decision you ONLY make leading up to the half, or when you need points late in the 4th. Maher is not Vinieterri in his early prime. Just a horrible call!!!

Never put your team in that kind of position after the first series.

The Cowboys seem to be in love with the idea of Maher ... that he can kick 60-yard field goals ... and not understand the reality that he's a 70 percent kicker. You don't let a kicker who makes only 3 out of every 4 attempts at best attempt that kick at that point in time. End of the half? Sure. Game on the line? Sure. First drive in a game you know is likely going to be tough for the defense? Absolutely not.

On a similar but different note, why do we even have return teams? We never try to return a KO. (Great use of Pollard btw)

We rarely get much on punt returns. Top that off by fair catching a do or die situation. Seriously, we are ahead of the curve of removing returns from the game. NFL just points to us & says,"see, no injuries."

Just a moronic decision. You got to play field position early. Handing them the ball at midfield, there's no defending the call. It was ridiculous.

That's the second time we've done that and lost.

Our kicker has been "reliable" from 50+ out recently.

They were on the left hash too.

This seems like more of a hindsight complaint.
