Lol. If he was gonna be counted on he would've been signed earlier so he can be in camp and gel with the rest of the line, especially Fred.

And I'm sure the rest of the guards in the scrub heap that Moore was just pulled out of will be holding out for "Brandon Moore Money".

lol!!!

...is that 1) by trying to sign him, you've essentially told your existing RG's that you don't have enough confidence in them to start; and 2) by publicly disclosing the terms, 1-year $2 million, you've now likely set the floor where Brian Waters or perhaps other G's will negotiate. Double whammy. Like one poster said, you can't make this stuff up...

If you have a chance to get a better player to make youre team better you sign him. This is professional sports not kindergarten or a psychological treatment. If people cant handle that they're probably in the wrong business and should look somewhere else to earn their money.

Do you honestly think he's been busting it in the weight room for a year and a half?

So how do you know he did not ?

Last time i checked every player we sign or going to sign must make it throu a conditioning test and the coaches will look at him if he is in shape and rdy to contibute.

Agreed.

I don't see this as a bad thing to the guys that are on the roster.

I think it's a pretty fine motivational tool actually. :)

I agree completely. Players need to not have a comfort level in training camp. Players need to know that they can lose their spot or depth position if they get outperformed. They need to understand they are not only competing with players on the roster, but existing free agents and players that will be cut as the preseason cut-downs happen.

The days of me, as a fan, worrying about the mindset of players are long gone. I want the best players on the field, not my favorite players. I may like a player and be rooting for him to make the team or move up the depth chart, but ultimately I want the best player there even if that means some veterans get their feelings hurt.

might be, just because hes not working doesnt mean he wasnt told to stay in shape for a "just in case" maybe he wasnt giving it his all but he could have been in the weight room. Those guys dont stop on a dime. They work out, they continue to do what they do. Sure he might have a bon bon here or there, but for the most part, hes in the weight room. Its not just workign out, its an environment, its a way of life.

i think concerns about waters are a good reason to bring him in and check him out. if he is game ready then you make a deal

This will light a fire in the butts of the guys who are already here to "win" that guard spot back.

If it doesn't they are not the right guys anyway.

If Moore got cold feet and rather stay retired better we know now than him playing half-heartedly for a lot of money.

I'm over it already - next man up

Good post. And i don't think you can make it to a professional level and stay there it it wasn't that way.

I knew this was Jerry's fault some way or another.

He's the GM right? Anyone who is simply a casual football fan knows we need help at the Guard position. Why are we just now trying to address it after our first preseason game?

And that's not relevant to this particular point.

The fact that we've been having guard issues for 3+ years and we're now in 2013, one month away from the season starting, and we're having to address our guard situation by pulling someone out of retirement is relevant and good reason to be critical of Jerry the Clown.

Well, it seems pretty obvious that the scouts and coaches wanted this done back in April, so the only logical conclusion we can reach is that it was Jerry who wanted to wait until August to make his move. Good 'ol Jerry.

It may or may not be, but it's still not relevant to this specific argument where we're talking about whether it's Jerry Jones' fault that we didn't push harder back in April for Brandon Moore. The fact is, we don't know what factored into the decision to wait until now to sign the player, so there's no way to know if it was a management issue, a player evaluation issue, a coaching issue, or related to Moore's own demands becoming more realistic as the offseason went on.

You can always reflexively blame Jerry for anything relating to the Cowboys. That's easy. The hard part is only doing it when the criticism is actually appropriate.

he is the owner and the GM. Who else is there to blame? He makes the call on things like this. You disagree?

Blame? For what? The talent on the field on Sunday looked pretty good to me. OL looked decent overall. Fredbeard, Arkin, and Leary all did pretty well. The backup OTs are a question mark. It was a known risk even before the draft and free agency. Every team has their risk areas. Let's see how all these other teams' OLs look starting tomorrow and this weekend.

But if you want to consider others to "blame", you might want to look at the head coach, OL coach, and OC. They have a big hand in this too.

How did Jeff Ireland look based on Sunday's game? Looks like some blame could be placed at his feet. How about OT Dallas Thomas in the 3rd round. Not looking too good so far (yeah, it's early). Matt Moore as a backup looked putrid. Tannehill was nothing to write home about.

Actually, the worst thing about Moore retiring is that we actually may have to rely on the 2 bums named Livings and Bernadeau. Btw, who cares if their feelings get hurt. It is the responsibilty of our front office to constantly be searching for ways to create competition and improve the team. If those bums got off the training table and actually played decent then they would not have to worry about Dallas looking for solutions outside the organization. They guys have been stealing money for the last couple of years as far as I am concerned.
