...is that 1) by trying to sign him, you've essentially told your existing RG's that you don't have enough confidence in them to start; and 2) by publicly disclosing the terms, 1-year $2 million, you've now likely set the floor where Brian Waters or perhaps other G's will negotiate. Double whammy. Like one poster said, you can't make this stuff up...

Could have been worse, they could have released somebody, assuming Moore was going to be here.

I disagree:

1) Not really, what it said was we have a bunch of injuries and would like more people taking reps.
2) Seriously? Brian Waters has very little leverage. We are not desperate, and no one else really is looking to sign him. If this contract is the floor, the ceiling is not much above it.

I'm glad they explored other options. I don't care if the current offensive linemen's feelings are hurt. They are there to do a job and if it is not up to par, then they should face the consequences. Fear can be a good motivator and maybe this will help them elevate their game, just maybe.

For the 2nd part, I seriously doubt this raised the price-tag for Waters, if anything, it set a ceiling.

That thot did cross my mind. Fortunately, I don't like to overthink anything.

Do you honestly think he's been busting it in the weight room for a year and a half?

Why not? But even if he hasn't, doesn't mean he's become completely sedentary and his diet has gone in the tank. You make it sound like its all or nothing with these guys.
