If he is not still being bothered by his knee, then its very clear he does not have recovery speed to make it up when he gambles and guesses wrong. That can be a nasty combination.

Phil Mushnick of the NY Post had a pretty good take on local media types who like to jump to conclusions so early in camp :

If you watched Saturday's SNY "SportsNite" and you didn't know that Jets camp opened just five days earlier, you would have thought the Jets are 4-0 and had not yet allowed a point!

"Rex Ryan has brought a new attitude to this defense, a swagger to a team allowing the playmakers to get out there and be themselves," Steve Overmyer reported.

And then: "Since the first day of camp, this year, this defense has been dominant."

Dominant? Against whom? Other Jets? Free agents? Blocking sleds? "Since the first day of camp, this year"? That was Monday!

Thanks. I totally envy Vela and Grizz and those guys that get to do that. Then we have these yahoos in the media that actually get paid to do it and they spend most of their time trying to crack jokes.
