The Dak contract is the one that has me puzzled. I don't see how you can have manageable cap hits when they're adding 95M to a contract that already pays around 55M a year. It's hard to push money forward because the cap hits get absurd.

I'm a team builder, focused on winning on the field so what I would do is probably different than what the "marketing" clowns will do. But how can I argue with all their championships?
In Dallas, you'd need to convince the business guys with the most valuable sports entertainment franchise in the world, at least 5 years running, that you know better than them how they can make money. Good luck.

Based on his current role with the team, I'm not confident that Micah Parsons could remain effective through the length of a 2nd contract. I'm not saying this conclusively, I'm just troubled by a few things.

First, the average career of a DE or EDGE that was drafted in the 1st round after the year 2000 is 6.86 years. Less than a third of the 103 DE's played longer than 8 seasons.

Keep in mind that the majority of these guys were 15 to 35 pounds heavier than Parsons, they were better able to absorb the constant pounding.

Again, these were all 1st round draft picks. I wanted an apples to apples comparison so these guys, as a group, is were you would place Parsons. I used only inactive drafted after 2000, so they were all complete careers.

Second, Micah already has a pattern of reduced productivity towards the end of each season. His pressure numbers slide around the beginning of December and he practically disappears in the playoffs, where his dynamic play is needed the most.

I don't blame Parsons. I suspect that the fatigue builds through the season as he is constantly subjected to double teams by a pair of O-linemen. He's just not built like that and even if he tried to be, he would probably have to sacrifice speed.

Considering that he is already struggling to end each season, I don't see another 4 years of similar productivity. The only thing I see to stop this trajectory is a different role, the one I think he should have had in the first place. Make him an outside linebacker with the space to roam and opportunities to make more diverse big plays.

Besides, he can still blitz on occasion to the point that it would be more effective because the opponent wouldn't know if, when, and in what direction Micah was coming. That's the way it should have been from the beginning.

However, under the current circumstances, he would be the odd man out, as they used to say.

Dak fans don't want to accept that their boy is the odd man out.

That's why you're seeing so many emotional responses to my logical post.

I post with logic. They post with their feels.
Jerry used to be guilty of relying on his feelings about players instead of logic when resigning them to big contracts.....I hope that's a thing of the past

MountaineerCowboy has a ton of confidence in Jerry Jones to do the right thing.

Its funny watching Jerry do the same thing he has done in the past and some now think (hope) its Jerry being "Shrewd"...no man he isnt lying to you he wants all 3...if your hoping for a Dakless Cowboys your hopes may still come true but make no mistake it will be because Dak no longer wants Jerry...your hopes are pinned on Dak...

Micah will be the highest paid defensive player ever.

CeeDee will want more than Jefferson who just became the highest paid non-QB ever.

Dak will want to be the highest paid player ever.

That would be the highest paid ever at defense and offense PLUS the highest paid non-QB ever all on the same team.

No. Chance.
Dak and Parson are all but gone

Frankly I don't care about any of them right now.
I pretty much feel the same way! None of those players do it for me the way Aikman, Haley and Irvin did. I'm also bitter about NFL Inflation in general. Knowing that Staubach made $25,000 a season and had to work a day job during the offseason brings today's players into perspective.
