It isn't the Hall of Stats.

It's the Hall of Fame.

It is reserved for greatness.

Monk was rarely the best receiver on his own team.

He played for a long time and compiled a lot of numbers.

Here is mine: Irvin was better.

Here is mine:

For all yall who say Monk had help, (ie. the Posse, etc.), the writers tend to forget that many in their profession were calling Irvin a bust after his first three years in the league when he averaged only 26 catches a year after being a first round draft pick in 1988. It wasn't until they drafted Emmit Smith in 1990 which opened up the running game that Irvin's numbers started to improve the following year. While Monk was solid throughout his whole career!

why? Irvin's the far better player...he deserved to go on the first ballot

I wouldn't go that far. Monk was a damn good player, no doubt about it. I believe he shouldve been in years ago. The guy had a hell of a career, and to say Irvin "was a far better player" is a bit too much.

Im realistic and i know that Monk should already be in the HOF, no ifs and or buts.

As it was stated earlier, Monk's consistency is admirable. Looking at the whole of his career, no doubt he should be in Canton.

Anyone can shine for one great catch or play but to do it over the long haul is where it truly matters.

Not sure how the candidate field looks the next few years but it will never get easier for Monk. Perhaps he'll have to display some selfishness for a change and convince the Skins rep to amp up his pitch.

Yes, what a bunch of little people over there. I especially liked the one about how many Super Bowls the 'skins had been to, and how few Buffalo had won, like none.

everybody has an opinion...I saw both play their entire careers...Irvin was a better player...he was more dynamic on the field and was a dominant, game changing player...I dont know that we'd have won those 3 super bowls w/o Irvin, but I do the Commanders would have been the same w/o Monk

people can say its bias or whatever, but Irvin, in my opinion was alot more talented and alot better WR than Monk

IMO, both Monk and Mike should be in the HOF.

But let me add one other thing, in a BIG game(s) - Super Bowls, NFC Championship games, etc. There was NO WR I'd rather have than Mike I.

Simply said, this is where the comparison ends between Irvin and a many other talented WRs, including Monk.

And the Hall of Fame voters rested theirs earlier this afternoon -- for the 6th consecutive year.

Maybe one day they'll open up a Hall of Longevity, and your boy can get in.

Until then, make like a baby, and head out.

"Well what can we look forward to now? Oh yeah the off-season when Dan opens up the Check-Book and overpays for another AA and The F-O trades our 1st rounder to Denver for Jake Plummer....I have a feeling that a bottle of Scotch will soon be calling my name."

Hahahahaha.

Except, IIRC, comparision of games with Aikman out, Emmett out, and Irvin out, the poorest record for the Cowboys by far were the games where Irvin was out.

And was that 'averaged 26 a year for the first three years' an upward slant on the stats?

Or the HOF system will be changed. HOFers who actually played with some of the people who were left out would be better. Not a bunch of biased journalists who never played a down of football in their pathetic lives.

Irvin suffered a torn ACL in a game against the 49ers in 1989 and missed 10 games and 4 the next year. Basically a whole season wiped out due to that and then having to play through the rest of 1990 while recovering from it. That's why his numbers appear low early on- not to mention his career was very prematurely ended.

He also scored 12 TDs in those first 3 years- not too shabby.

What are you talking about? What leads you to believe that journalists don't hold a grudge over our team or him?

Why shouldn't he be in? He should have gotten in years ago. What is your reason for why he still isn't in.

If you say he sucks, then you must be like 10 and not have ever seen him play or are just ignorant.

Monk should be in- I'm sorry- it's crap. And the writers do hold grudges- if Monk had played for Pittsburgh he would be in.
