Please tell me one time you've seen this with the Cowboys? I think they let that 2009 draft come to them and then watch it leave football.

Let's all start from the same point. Every observation, every suggestion that I make is with one principle in mind. This brain trust is irregular so I must first think of a way around their own proclivities and that takes all of us down the irrational road like hoping your team loses to get better because you don't trust the team builders.

You cannot apply fundamental football thinking to this franchise. And you cannot apply BPA because they're deciding who that is.
I'm sorry, but that is just irrational thinking. It's like saying "we aren't very good on offense, so let's just mail it in and punt on first down".

The 2009 draft sucked overall. Not many starters out of that draft on any team.

You draft by need in that situation guess what? You are more likely to end up with a Taco Charlton.

The Cowboys had a top 10 grade on Lamb, if I recall. There was no decision to be made there. You take the Lamb if you have him graded that high and he's sitting there, needs aside. I suspect if they had Lamb rated the same as say Chaisson, they would have taken the DE.
Would we have taken a QB or RB in that slot if they ranked higher than Lamb?

Slot or 3rd receiver doesn’t warrant a 1st round pick with so many other glaring needs especially with a solid WR1 you just signed and solid WR2 in a top offense.

It’s a luxury pick a 8-8 team with a bottom tier defense couldn’t afford .

Poor logic. He was the best player on the board, by far. You don't pass that up.

Your claim that any defender we would have picked at 17 would have helped is completely misguided. Chaisson would have provided very little this year to help this D, for example.
I didn't claim any defender at 17 would have helped us, just the need to address that. It's a calculated risk at best just as it was with any player taken 1-16.

My point still remains. They should have done everything in that draft about building a defense. They had good WR corps and had spent a 2nd and 3rd on OL in the previous two drafts and they had the #1 O and #2 Pass O, why would you address the O skill position? Who cares if he's the best player, he's not a need.

They gave up on Taco too soon.
They didn't cut Taco fast enough. Taco is a "Taco Bust Supreme". About the only good thing about Taco was his celebration, (making tacos) but we didn't see it very often because he spent more time making tacos than practicing football.

And that's why your opinion shouldn't be taken seriously.
And saying this without explanation makes yours more valid?

I would have no problem with an all defensive draft, I asked for it myself last year. Sure you want a balance and current contracts affect all that, but we have never been, in recent decades, a legitimate top defense, a defense that puts fear into opposing offenses. I'm all for taking a chance if we're not reaching or settling on these picks.

You are right. We should draft for need on defense, throw the pick away, and then talk about how we "haven't addressed the defense, even though we did with the wasted pick". LOL

Every team in the NFL had injuries. Your precious “Stats” wasn’t the only player to go down.
You’ll get through this, Son.
Lots of Kleenex but you’ll pull through.
Meanwhile Jefferson is up for ROY and setting records. No one says CD is bad. But as of right now regardless of your tears, Jefferson is the better WR by far.
It’s just reality. Hang in there, boy.
I'm sorry did the Vikings QB get hurt?

Idk when you turned into an idiot, but goodbye.

That's a silly comparison. You can play a lot of 3 WRs in the NFL, so you could have Cooper, Gallup and Lamb on the field a lot. You can't play Dak and a #1 pick QB at the same time. You won't have Elliott and a first round TB on the field at the same time. And if you split snaps between the two, you are essentially wasting the value of those picks.

The problem with that method of thinking is that needs often don't line up with available talent at your draft slot.

Not sure what point you are trying to make?
CeeDee was easily the top rated player on DAL board.
They needed a WR3 and got one that immediately provided return.

Jefferson has been great but he's also WR2 and got more targets in MINN.
Jeudy/CeeDee were 1 and 2 on most boards at WR.

I do believe you can get a WR in round 3 of basically any draft but they got a walk in starter who filled a need thus no reason to Dallas to be anything but happy with Lamb.

CD was not drafted to be a #3. LOL.
And your post makes no sense.
Jefferson is the more complete player as of now.
Just deal with it folks. Yes, there turned out to be a more productive, ready made player at the very position DAL drafted. It doesn’t make CD bad. It’s just makes the fact that Jefferson is up for ROY true.

But you have to keep trying to address your weaknesses even if you miss. Which we have far too often this era on defense and what’s probably prevented this franchise from more success.

Unfortunately a top offense hadn’t been enough to carry us further . We could probably argue we’ve over invested on offense.

Ok. Interesting stuff. But if you look at the most recent 3 drafts, it tells a different story. In 2017, our draft ranks 18th. In 2018, our draft ranked 9th, and in 2019 we ranked 27th. Those are hugely important b/c that shows you the quality of the guys working on rookie contracts which are the NFL's most valuable commodity. If you have quality starters working on rookie wages, that frees the cap up to invest in better players elsewhere. The cowboys have been duds in free agency so they didn't capitalize on the good drafting.

That's how you end up with crap drafts and a bad roster............. if you just keep throwing draft picks at problems even if you keep missing.

The top level of the draft should be largely BPA, with some exceptions. Then you can use the middle rounds and later rounds to go more need based for depth, etc. Trysten Hill was a "need" pick. So was Charlton. Not exactly great results.

Franchises that can afford a luxury pick like some of the top teams in the league .

Unfortunately we aren’t one of those with so many glaring weaknesses on one side of the ball. Perhaps our ownership believed we were. That would certainly help explain the choice.
