The Cowboys offensive stats, and won-loss record, were inflated by the NFC East. Arguably the worst division in the NFL, Dallas averaged 40 points per game in division.

The running game faded as the season wore on, good teams made Dallas play from behind, and when made one-dimensional the offense became sluggish. But then another NFC East game would pop up and everything looked well again. Look at the last 4 games:

Dallas 56, Washington 14
Arizona 25, Dallas 22
Dallas 51, Eagles 26
San Fran 23, Dallas 17

Those 50+ games meant little, but they boosted the "#1 offense" stats. Dallas never led against Arizona or San Fran, and scored 7 points the first 3 quarters of both games.

To me, that's like saying, "If you're upset with a player, you're really just mad at the owner." Just seems like a way to shirk responsibility, especially as regards criticizing his punishments and their applications, considering those are his decisions.

The owners are the ones shirking responsibility. Jdude, this is they way it's done. The big dawgs hire someone to take the heat. Been going on for more than centuries. Way back then, kings would pay others to fight their duels/take their punishment/whatever the king didn't want to do. Obvious stuff. If you hate Goodell, the owners will be very happy, as their patsy has done what he's been asked to do. Keep the heat off so people don't blame the owners.

It wasn't too long after that, the owners voted 30-2(or something like that) to give Goodell a raise and an extension. Pretty sure you can hazard a very accurate guess as to one of the dissenters!!!!

Love/hate stuff. The other owners love the money Jerry has created, but hate him as an adversary. He's bucked the league since the beginning, so giving any player from the Cowboys max penalties is what they want.

As fans, we all from time to time have to suspend logic and evidence in order to “believe”. In fact, just being a fan (aka “fanatic”) makes us vulnerable to false hopes and evidence that is contrary to our hope.

Here is a list of things we wish were true but sadly aren’t:

• The Cowboys are just victims of bad luck- this year, and the previous 25 before that. But actually, as Jimmy used to emphasize, teams make their own luck.

• Our players should be willing to take a “hometown discount”. We love the idea that a Cowboys player loves the game and the fans here enough to take less money. Pipe dream. And we should never expect a man to take less money than he could get elsewhere.

• Our front office just needs to hire the right coach- like Sean Payton- and that will fix us- since our last great playoff run we’ve already had 6 different HCs, 7 different OCs, 8 different DCs, over 70 different assistant coaches…one 1 GM. It’s more than a HC issue.

• The refs are a part of a vast NFL conspiracy to keep the Cowboys from success- Our society is always fascinated with some crazy conspiracy that helps us avoid things we don’t want to be true. The NFL can’t even define a catch or pass interference, and we’re supposed to believe they can hold a conspiracy like this together, lol? The truth is this 2021 Cowboys team was undisciplined and paid the price with penalty flags.

There are of course more than on this list. Any others?

Has officiating involving Dallas, as well as punitive suspensions, been more egregious since Jerry opposed Goddell at contract time? It absolutely has.

Are rules, fouls & infractions called with any modicum of consistency.. they absolutely are not.

Now, see, I can have a differing observation which is credible WITHOUT reference to any dark conspiracy.

I don't know man. Your theory seems tautological without having a true insider. I mean, Goodell is the guy responsible for discipline. Saying he's done a poor job in that role seems like a fair criticism.

You say he's supposed to absorb hate in place of the owners, but if that hate gets to be detrimental they have to get rid of him.
