Think again...great draft picks tonight.

Murray may do well, I sure hope he does, because I believe in what in JG.

Murray is only better than felix in pass blocking, and receiving. Murray is not better than Choice in pass blocking, and but he is when it comes to catching the ball. So yeah he can become the 3rd down back and return Kicks and punts, I believe they do not want Dez doing that anymore, maybe on special occasions.

I can see Murray beicoming the 3rd down back and special teams returner, but you can rest assure that Choice will get more opportunity this seasn running the ball, because he is better than all the RBs on the roster at doing that.
Choice is not coming back. Jerry Jones pretty clearly dislikes him. Jerry almost never goes after a guy publicly like he did Choice. After Choice fumbled he sat a lot of weeks. Choice will get more carries, it just won't be Dallas.

Felix is the starter and Murray the Nickel guy. We will get a short yardage guy or use one of the bigger backs that have cycled thru our PS.

I will wait a few years to grade these picks. I have learned to do that after many years of watching the draft.

Seriously, why does "I really wasn't fond of this pick" turn into "I hate the guy and hope he dies!"?

Some of us think it was a bad pick. I hope he goes on to break Emmitt's rushing record, but I still think it was a bad pick.

You must have not read the "Welcome Demarco Murray" Thread.

Exactly, the truth comes out on the field.

I'm down with their logic and yours Wayne. I worry a little about the health issue, but an ACL tear today isn't what it use to be.

I don't get criticizing our drafting for not filling every single need when we know we're going to be active in free-agency to address those needs that haven't been filled. If we add a DE, G, CB, S, etc. in FA, then the draft will look a whole lot better, n'est-ce pas? Can't judge the offseason by a draft or by FA signings alone - have to use both to get a complete picture.

A) Complaints (valid or not) are that we didn't address needs at all. We spent 40 and 71 on all but guaranteed non-starters year 1 except in case of heinous injury. And this is a 7 win team that needed to add lots of young starters.

B) We can not ASSUME we will add all these free agents. We have been told by Cowboys management we will cut the salary costs. We did NOT fill for Flozell or Hamlin or T.O. but instead went young. There is no reason to believe we fill every single hole in free agency when we haven;t done so in the recent past and the team wants to remain a tight rein on spending.

C) We have zero idea what free agency brings in way of a system or cap. It could be that we lose a lot more starters than we hoped to lose as free agents. And we will have walked away with back ups at 40 and 71.

D) Murray and Carter could be Pro Bowlers in 3 years and half the jersey sin Cowboys Stadium bear their names. Opinions are vald but they aren't the final tally. the board would be insanely boring if everyone just said, "Good Pick see you week 1".

I was expecting to pick Rackley like most, but it's a stetch to think he was a starter on day 1 over Davis or Kosier.

I'd have to disagree. I don't think Davis would have made it to TC to compete. I expect it would have been Costa and Brewster versus Rackley.

Davis may look better leading up to week 1 but we all know older, big bodies wear down over the course of a season. I don't think Jerry would've even left the option out there. Much like Flozell and Hamlin they would have just cut the guy and hoped a kid could win the job.

It may still happen in r4.

How many targets per?

Easy math. NFL.com shows he had 450 yards receiving, so he was targeted 52 times for 8.65 yards per targeted attempt.

That average gets grossly skewed by a certain pass play against NY that went for 71 yards. Pull that outlying data point and you'd come out with 51 targeted attempts with 379 yards for an average of 7.43 yards per.

1.22 yards difference overall.

My reaction is that Murray becomes the middle class man's Brian Westbrook. I'll take it all day, and several times on Sunday. One thing I've been wanting was a more pass-oriented RB that could play in any down and distance as opposed to what we've had in the last few years.

I love the versatility he gives us in a two back set where you don't know which RB could take the carry or be the lead block on a swing pass. Really love this pick, more than ever.

There is just no way they risk that. They knew what they had in Free. Maybe they find a free agent.

But we haven't gone through FA yet so we haven't not signed these FA's to fill these holes yet. How can you criticize something like it has already happened if it hasn't happened yet and might not actually happen? It's totally illogical.

That video, obviously a small sample size, shows good speed, and contrary to what I have been hearing, it showef him breaking tackles and running through guys. Supposedly he has balance problems but honestly, there are plays in there that Felix and Choice have almost identically completed. I really like Choice, I hope he either stays as the backup or we trade him for a pick or something because he hasn't gotten a proper shot here imo, when he started in place of our injured guys he stepped up. But I'm a Choice fan lol

I hope Murray ends up being the starter of our team, a TD magnet, rushing leader and pro bowler because he is a cowboy. I do not not agree with taking him in the third rounder, never will but it's officially behind me. ;)

The video showed a one cut and go type of back with good speed. Not sure if our blocking scheme can utilize his skills.
He would probably do better with Wash.

And after you take out McFadden's 67-yarder, Forte's 89-yarder, Moreno's 45-yarder, and Charles' 31-yarder, your Top 5 change from this order...
1) Jones DAL 8.7
2) McFadden OAK 8.3
3) Forte CHI 7.8
4) Moreno DEN 7.8
5) Charles KC 7.3

...to this order.
1) Jones DAL 7.4
2) McFadden OAK 7.3
3) Moreno DEN 7.0
4) Charles KC 6.9
5) Forte CHI 6.6

You call 1200 yards, 15 tds, 71 receptions, all in his senior year injury prone and a poor man's Felix? Felix never sniffed any of those numbers, ever, and Felix had some injuries in college too if you remember...and was never a starter.

Felix has more wiggle and will remain the starting RB, but Felix sucks in the passing game...neither he nor Choice can pick up the blitz, and Felix is not a good receiver. Murray is a huge upgrade over both of those guys in the passing game, which is a huge part of the game.

And he knows how to get into the end zone, man.

Felix Sophmore year - 1,168 yards and scored 6 touchdowns on only 154 carries
junior year - 123 carries for 1,117 yards and 11 TDs

give Felix 282 carries a year at least 1500 yds

pass well he did not have a passing QB

Soph - 15 passes for 107 yards
Junior - 13 receptions for 111 yards

both seem like pretty good average

reacieving as a Cowboy '10 - 48 - 450 yds avg 9.4 09 - 19 - 119 yds avg 6.3

sucks it being Felix can't catch the ball - or run it

Murray
09 - 171 carries - 705 yds
10 - 282 carries - 1214 yds

I've learned it doesn't matter how long you wait if the guy picked is at a position that isn't needed.

I agree the hysteria about the Murray pick is hilarious around here. I'm going to give the guy a chance and I am going to root for him, because like it or not, he's a Cowboy now. Here's to him being the next Terrell Davis. And for those of you that aren't rooting for him, I'm sure there's an Eagles or Commanders board that would love to have you. Guess what else? I hate to break it down like this , but Jerry Jones isn't going to be calling you to turn over his GM duties to you. That phone is not going to ring, no matter how super-awesome your ideas and opinion are on an internet message board.

Lol. Amen. I kinda hope they grab a tight end with one of these last pics just to see this place implode.ha

It's funny how best player available goes...sometimes, a team actually has to go by how that player was actually evaluated. Even here, you have a huge chart, and by Day Three, half or more is already demolished. Yea, go figure basing on how over a six month period of time in evaluations by eighteen different scouts, and at least seven unmatched comparisons, they still go by their own notes on a player.

And even during the draft:

Switzer encouraged Cowboys to select OU running back

IRVING – The Cowboys’ selection of Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray in the third round came after they received a thumbs-up on the pick from Barry Switzer.

Switzer, the former OU coach who guided the Cowboys to their last Super Bowl win over the 1990s, encouraged Jerry Jones to pick Murray.

“He is an outstanding back,” Jones said of Murray. “We even called on Barry Switzer, who candidly is one of the best running back evaluators there has been and is, because he has seen so many and really studies them.

“So we had Barry weigh in on us in the draft room there tonight and he really knew him well.”

And then, even with medical issues, the Cowboy's Valley Ranch has some of the very top specialists in the whole country. The team is the ONLY one who employs full time, a specialist that handles torn up knees. They don't leave issues uncoverd, makeshift, and unchallenged in concepts.
