Think the Jones' boys are seeing Lawrence wreak havoc on the Vikes?

I'm not sure what this has to do with the point of my post? My point is taking the Ridgeway's of the world in the 5th round is borderline meaningless, especially at DT. Lots of teams take DTs in the first round. And let's not forget the Cowboys have sacrificed 1st round picks......for glamour positions other than DT.

Updated - maybe you are agreeing with me? Apologies if I misunderstood your post.
Yes, I am agreeing with you! I was referring to some comments about the Giants DTs, Williams and Lawrence. The Cowboys have not drafted a DT in the first round since 1991. But some of that was opportunity. The best DTs coming out of college usually go early in the draft. Lawrence was #17 in 2019, a year in which the Giants had 3 first round picks (and the Cowboys had 0), including #6 which they used on QB, Daniel Jones. My point was drafting that high that many times over a short period the Giants had much more opportunity than Dallas to find a stud DT. The Giants made a trade with Cleveland to get the pick they used to select Dexter Lawrence. It was the OBJ trade. The Giants got a 1st and 3rd, Kevin Zeitler, OG, and Jabrill Peppers, S, for OBJ and Olivier Vernon. This is why the Amari Cooper trade was a disaster for Dallas. OBJ was a good receiver for the Giants but he had baggage too which is why the Giants traded him. Olivier Vernon was almost done. I still find it hard to believe we could not have come up with a package to get more than a 5th for Cooper.

I am not saying this is the only reason we don't have a stud like Lawrence. We could have moved up at any point in the draft and drafted a stud like the Eagles did to get Jordan Davis. Maybe the first round was too expensive, but we could have moved up for a guys Milton Williams or Davon Hamilton. Milton Williams can't crack the starting lineup for the Eagles but he would probably be the best DT on the Cowboys.

We could also find one in free agency. That's how the Giants got Leonard Williams. But you know how Jerry and Stephen feel about signing free agents from other teams.

But, yes, drafting in the DTs in the 5th and 6th rounds is unlikely to produce an impact DT. Not impossible but much harder than finding one in the 1st round. And you know the Cowboys feel the same way otherwise why expose Ridgeway in his rookie season to waivers where he could get picked up by another team.

The only conclusion we can draw is up to now the Cowboys simply do not value the position even though it is has been a weakness in the defense for years.

Remember ,after the cowboys lost to the 49ers last season , Jerry claimed to have learned his lesson and promised to build up the the dline of the cowboys.

Hopefully they do and it is the start of putting an end to that terrible run of playoff success (or more specifically lack thereof) over the last 25 years. But make no mistake, they have been an abysmal postseason team for the last 25 years. One of the worst in the entire NFL with the likes of the Lions and Commanders.
And all of that can be turned around with a few wins.

Tried to slip him on the PS. Was a bad move since they need a DT. And they ended up dropping one anyways. Could have dropped him earlier and played Ridgeway. He never really got a chance.
So true, Glim.

6'5", 325 pound big NTs don't come by that often. I don't understand why the Cowboys refused to coach Ridgeway up the way the Commanders are. SMH

Not even train him up. He knew the playbook. Put him in the game. We have a big DT vet coming back from injury that is going to make a dlifference. We could have had 2..
