Thinkback to Bledsoe's INT at the end of the first

All of you are smarter than me. I was happy when we signed Bledsoe. I thought he would play OK.

That said, I was worn out by the time he threw his last pick.

I wasn't convinced about Romo. He reminded me of Favre. I know, stupid. I thought that was bad thing. I thought the gunslinger mentality would cost us too many games. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I even went into this year, excited about Romo yet unconvinced. More of me being wrong.

I post this because I see so many people on this board who say that they knew all along. It doesn't even matter what the topic is, they knew.

I am posting this for all of us who know nothing.

As the original poster said, "If I only knew."

:D

I hear ya Scotman..I thought the same thing. He couldn't be worse than Vinny..he was a little better..but his inability to move in the pocket and create some time for him to throw was his worst flaw.

If I were the Falcons, I would definitely bring Bledsoe on board.

I mean Bledsoe was replaced by the two top rated QBs in the league today!

When Romo replaced Bledsoe, there was electricity in the air and I got goose bumps. Even though he immediately throw an INT, there was sense of relief and optimism because I knew we no longer had to deal with a statue and turnover magnet. You could clearly see how responsive the OLine was with Romo and even though he was still somewhat raw, you could feel that there was something special about him.

When we fell behind 10-0 in Carolina the next week, I thought we were totally screwed.

Actually, it was 14-0 at the end of the 1st qtr. 14-10 at the half. The the Cowboys outscored them 25-0 in the 4th.

So are we supposed to be honest in this thread?

I remember arguing with people that Romo actually looked really good in that game despite the INTs. It was unfortunate that he had to be thrown into the fire like that. Bill could have certainly handled the situation better for Romo and Bledsoe.

I was in the same boat. Granted, I wanted the change after Jacksonville, because at that point I saw that things were going to be bad - he had so many needless sacks/ints.

Romo came in and threw what, 3 picks, but three was something in him while in the pocket that I hadn't seen from any of the QBs we have had in a long time.

i'll never forget the one he threw in the endzone against the eagles..

After that throw, I was ready to bench him for Romo. I didn't think Bledsoe could take the team far and felt it was time to see what Romo could do even if it meant losing more games, which we didn't.

Even though we lost that game you could just tell that Romo had "it".

...and some of it being justified, the way he handled the Bledsoe/Romo situation was correct and the best for the Cowboys.

He provided Bledsoe for a clear and undeniable opportunity to play his way onto the bench and gave Romo a clear chance to step in without any pressure.

We had no expectations for a post season by the time Tony came in and there was a clear scapegoat at the time - Drew.

You can't handle it any better from a management perspective. It was played so well by Parcells that Drew decided to quit the league all together.

Ever notice there are hardly any "bring Drew back" supporters. Even in the light of signing "noodle arm" Brad Johnson as the backup.

I remember how adorable it was after the game when this place did it's best Extremeskins impression talking about how great Romo's game-losing 3 int performance was...lol. "Poise" may have even been thrown around.

There's making excuses, then there's being right. Looks like we were in the latter category.

You could see in that limited performance the same things we're seeing now. That's what people were jumping on. It was like night and day compared to Bledsoe.

Some people just see 3 INTs and say, "OMGZ, like he's the suXXors!!!11"

That's not what happened. There were no predictions being thrown around. It was just "Ooohhh, shiny new object!" Honestly, it was pathetic, especially considering he had just crapped the bed and cost us the game with three picks. It's hilarious when Skins fans do it with Jason Campbell (who cares that he threw the game-ending INT - did you see his poise? Gibbs is holding him back) and it was hilarious when Cowboyszone went uber-homer and tried to make that performance into golden crap. Has nothing to do with what happened after that. Reading here, you would have thought Romo deserved an award for playing like crap.

Stop that right now!

There was a silver-lining to that game and you know it.

LOL. Ok. Romo was just a shiny new object. I also remember the, "it's just preseason" lines. The bottom line is that many people saw in him special ability that was extremely unique and potentially great. Going back on those threads, it's not the "shiny new object" crowd that looks silly.

Like I said, some people see 3 INTs and can't get past that.

That's an interesting opinion. I always think the outrageous homers look silly. Whether they root for Dallas, or any other team.

Ahhh, the good old days!

1st down

hut, hut...
pat, pat, pat
plunk..

2nd down
hut, hut...
pat, pat, pat
plunk

3rd
hut, hut...
pat, pat, pat,

Yes, I remember those days like it was last year!

And it just goes back to there being outrageous homers, and there being people that were right.

The Romo "homers" were right. It wasn't a great performance in that game, obviously, but no one said it was. That's just a strawman you've neatly constructed. But anyone looking at that game objectively as a first performance in an NFL game should come away saying that guy has spectacular potential. Some didn't at the time. They just couldn't get past the 3 INTs when evaluating his performance. They were obviously wrong, and the "homers" were obviously right.
