This defense is a 1T away from legendary

DT, LB, and safeties are a weakness (Yes, our safeties will also be exposed at some point)

This is what happens when you think you can outsmart the league and get great safeties and DTs for cheap. Hill is an outlier but also a complete bust.

For over 30 years the middle of the defensive line was patrolled by a legitimately, recognized, monster run stopper who was a top pick in the 1st round of a draft.

The very first draft pick in Cowboys history became a Hall of Fame DT, Bob Lilly.

He was followed by an overall #2 draft pick, Hall of Famer Randy White.

After Randy White left Jimmy Johnson came in and acquired former overall #2 draft pick Tony Casillas.

He also selected a DT with the overall #1 pick, Russel Maryland, a very underrated but excellent run stopper.

My point is that the guys who had won Super Bowls for us thought that a committed investment in getting top quality talent was pretty important to them when it came to the position of defensive tackle.

The best place for any Head Coach to learn how to win championships is built right into the history of the Dallas Cowboys. When is our own head coaches going to learn this?

Didn't we sign a free agent DT 2 or 3 years ago and he got hurt in training camp? Never played but I remember when they signed him I said, "oh, I heard of that guy."

You guys keep touting this mythical beast that doesnt' exist. To the point the Cowboys are drafting players like John Ridgeway...

If you ask me, they need more help on the line, and at WR.

Hopefully, Simi gets better and Washington can make a difference. Because right now, our TEs are stepping up and that's been nice to see.
Our guys in the middle are playing fine right now. Sure, they could be upgraded, but they're doing well enough to help their team become a top defense.

I find this comment funny, because you act like these guys grow on trees. And that they're just cheap, and don't cost anything.

Like, we can get Warren Sapp for $3 million, and still sign guys like Parsons, Diggs, etcetera, in the future.

The Cowboys want to keep the players they like, which is why this isn't as easy as some make it out to be — in reality, that is, of course.
I hope Bohanna and Hill get better as they get more experience. I read where Micah thinks Bohanna is gonna be a good player. I'll listen to him before I listen to these fans. Plus he like 360 pounds.

Great post. Do you think it’s purely the front office mentality or just that good 1Ts are hard to get? It seems like every year there’s only 1 legit 1T talent in each draft

Damone Clark is basically a 2nd round big athletic 3-down LB talent already on the roster.

As far as the dominant 1T...we'll probably never see that guy as long as the Joneses are running the show. Ratliff for about 2 years was as close as we got in the last 25 years, and that was by accident.

LBs are useless if the DL can’t hold L.O.S. Even the great Micah Parsons was obsolete against 49ers in the playoffs.

You should start a thread about how much Parsons sucks ........ make sure to embed a video that nobody can watch.

Lately, it's pretty much the mentality of the entire NFL to make the game more "exciting". In other words, they adopt more and more rules that make it easier for offenses to be productive. More than ever, the more valuable resources are committed to building an elite offense than an elite defense.

Newly hired head coaches have to satisfy fans more these days, I think. GM's are not deaf to public criticism. As a result, they can get a big splash with a young, new QB, particularly a high 1st round draft pick. A more credentialed coach would probably look at the lines as a way to start, knowing that they will be given a little more time than their first time counterparts.

Tom Landry knew what he wanted when he first built the Cowboys which is why he got Lilly. It certainly didn't hurt that he was a Texan.

With Randy White they kind of fell into that, Micah Parsons style. They thought he was too short to play DT, they saw him as a MLB. It took a few seasons for them to figure it out. As soon as they put him at DT, he began making 1st team All Pro.

Jimmy Johnson knew what he wanted, knew who they were, and knew how to get them.

Russel Maryland played for Jimmy in college at Miami and Casillas was playing for Oklahoma when Jimmy was HC at Oklahoma State. Jimmy's knowledge of college talent was a valuable asset.

Just scream louder. The staff is bound to hear you.

I just don’t get it. Last year I feel like they balanced it out so well…and Parsons was able to bring a lot of value to the LBr group sniffing out screens and some runs for TFLs. We get none of that from LVE and Barr.

He can obviously still pass rush on passing downs, but man, we need the help at LBr.

Abso-FREAKING-lutely! Remember the years of Urlacher being a star to being called the "most overrated". It was because they got weak at DT. LBers shine when you have great DTs.
That why Jimmy Johnson said, "never ever resign big dollar LBers. Use that money on the fat guys". LVE would be fine if we could land one or two stud DTs.

really cannot see what you are whining about. I just laughed at any claim that this D can be legendary, We have ONE player who might get to the HOF in Parsons.
You look at any legendary D ever and you will find multiple players that either got in or should get in.
Diggs has a shot if he can keep it up but that ain't enough in any way shape or form.

Diggs is a conundrum. He led the league in INTs which is incredible but he also gave up the most yards in the entire league which is brutal. I don't see HOF in that even though I totally agree with what you posted.

Also need a run stuffing LB....hoping Clark or even Cox can help there but obviously neither has been given the opportunity yet. LVE is not the answer and Barr is inconsistent as well. Looks like we will have to be satisfied with what is on the roster already. Don't anticipate them doing any kind of trade during the season.
This roster is stacked with LB depth.
