This defense is a 1T away from legendary

Teams are teeing off on our lack of success stopping the run, which creates a viscous cycle where our D gets tired, and our greatest skillset (pass rush) goes unused early in games.

I know people are saying these are off tackle runs but that’s simply not true. Other posters have shown the run maps and most long runs are right up the middle. Eagles game is perfect example.

If we can just get a scary fat man that gobbles double teams I have faith that our linebackers will play better and I have faith that Cox and Clarke show enough promise to shore up our LB position long term.

If we get that guy, offenses become one dimensional, and it becomes a freak show

Legendary?
I better tell tha to 5 teams from the 70s and the early 90s.

They're JAGs - watch, as the season rolls on, they'll get exposed.

If you extrapolate Wilson’s stats over a 17 game season, he is on track for
  • 7 sacks
  • 12 QB hits
  • 2 interceptions
  • 7 TFL’s
  • 121 tackles
At what point does he transcend from JAG to playmaker…Are we still calling Armstrong a JAG too?

Need upgrade at middle linebacker, one that can shed a block and close the running lane

When I think best defenses think the bears, ravens, we aren’t close to those teams even with a real NT. Think our D is starting to get a little overrated

The Cowboys don't even regularly play a 1T.
Dan Quinn moves guys all around often playing 2 3T and just rushing LB up through the 1(A) gaps.

But you'd love a dominant interior guy all the same.
Sttill REAAAALLLLLLYYY HARD to complain about having the best DE depth chart in the NFL and getting by with JAGs at DT.

Yea, the defense has done a great job and answered the bell each week but I’m going to need to see how they fare against a great O or so in the playoffs.

Our schedule is awful so I guess the Vikings will be the best decent test.

NTs don't sell jerseys. They need to be undersized 3-techniques who can get sacks. I bet if you ask Jerry/Stephen who a prototypical DT is, they would probably say Tyrone Crawford
D's w/o competent NT's get abused in the playoffs.

And he won't end with those. As I said, he'll get exposed - there is this thing that happens that even JAGs look good when everything around them is going right. Read the same BS about players like Scandrick when he was here, best "slot corner in the league" - when in the biggest moments, his major flaws showed up and he cost us games.

Wilson is a JAG and the fact we keep plugging in guys like him at safety is why we haven't had a trophy since the 90s. As for Armstrong, he's a good pass rusher. He hasn't exactly been lighting it up in other areas.
