This Fanbase Celebrates Mediocrity

Seeing how this fanbase reacted today is why we are mocked across the nation. We accept mediocrity and not only that, we celebrate it. You would think we would have won some kind of championship. The 5 rings mentality is real. Too many live in the past and are not comfortable in moving on. We want to hang onto the past so often because it's familiar. Witten has not played in a year and is way past his prime. He will be upper 30s by the time training camp starts. Do people not realize how ineffective he was? We are paying $3.5-5mill for a guy who can only do a few things and some kind of a niche player. But Jerry's charity is always open to his pet favorites. Who cares about developing the TE's we have and getting some down the field ability, let's bring back Witten. Yay mediocrity!! Can't wait for his 3-4 yard routes where he catches the ball and falls down.

No you are expressing your own bias and your own feeling, don't put that BS on others. Some do not think as you do so they must be accepting mediocrity? What are we suppose to wait for your words of wisdom before we are able to say what we think and anything other than that is settling?

Witten is a proven guy who was better than jarwin, schultz, swaim, rico when they were all here. Jarwin had 1 nice game last year after Garrett/ moore took more of a role in playcalling. His deal doesn't prevent anyone else from playing esp if they are productive. Also consider they used alot of 2 tight end sets and that likely continues after seeing our wr group dwindle to almost nothing.

Not this fan, I could care less if we let Tank, Dak and Zeke walk, I would probably keep Jones, and we are in a corner on Coop.
I don't get tied up with the "love fest" based on name value anymore,, its all about reality with me anymore.
I would hate to see Zeke gone, but reality knows that RBs are a dime a dozen.
Dak will get payed top 5 QB money, but he will never be a top 5 QB in this league.
Tank will get payed the top DE FA contract and will continue to be just a decent DE that teams love to have but will kill our cap, out of necessity.
I would put this team in to a total rebuild at this point, you sign these guys to top contracts and you get a decent team going forward that never has the elite talent to put you over the top.
You can have all the best players in the league but if you have fundamental flaws in your franchise than you will never win, and this franchise is plagued from the top down, FO and coaching, then it all runs down hill.
Until that changes, its just a spending spree when this team has the money at wallmart, good but not good enough.

Let me 'splain what you are doing. Witten unretired, thats news. Its posted here of course. Several hundred people commented on it. The comments range from jubilation to contempt for the news. You cherry pick a few individuals then you explode those few comments to suggest that is what everyone is saying or at least as if it is general consensus. Then you reply to your own exaggeration in a condescending way as if you are teaching us all. What you should do is reply directly to a specific person you disagree with. But is ok, people do what you are doing very frequently.

Couple of things.

1) Paragraphs are your friend.
2) Don't post angry.

Lol - You gotta get over your insecurities and paranoia. Believe it or not people across the nation have lives and aren’t spending the time you imagine mocking the Cowboys. And realistically 2/3 of the NFL or more has had less success than the Cowboys the last 5 years, so what would be their basis for mocking?

I would say you being a jerk to other fans despite not being provoked makes you worse than anyone you imagine to be mocking the Cowboys

It starts with Jerry and his brilliant choices for the coaching staff. Garrett is still employed with nothing to show for 8 years as HC. The guy they put in the OC spot - thats the biggest head scratcher. The guy played in 3 total games in his 'career' riding the bench, but somehow that awesome resume qualified him for a QB coaching job, and now the OC spot one year later.

When the owner/GM is so accepting of mediocre results, what are the homers left with? Celebrating crappy moves like bringing back an over the hill TE?
Well I think jerry and SJ are trying to "Make" a HC in garrett, and now doing the same thing in KM.
The formula is find a smart guy who knows some football, and then "make them into something great .
They also hire other guys who actually know things to help them learn, but it is mostly learning on the job.

It has worked so well with garrett, :laugh:now they are going to make KM a OC.

This way they have 2 guys who they like, who are totally obediant and loyal to the jones boys.
They dont talk back and do as they are told, very pleasant for the jones boys to work with them.
If jerry then tells KM that he wants witten to get targeted more per game, or for cooper to get x number targets,
or whatever jerry or his boy wants, it will be done.
Last season SJ came out and said he didnt like dak running more than a few times a game, which pretty much means no read option
offense, and the next week and for rest of season, including the playoffs, there were only a few plays where RO was used.

Jerry and SJ are "Executive Head Coaches" it all starts with them and then JG is puppet head coach.
He controls the others, but now it seems jones boys will control KM directly to keep JG away from the offense.

The jones boys wanted witten back, so he is back, it doesnt matter what JG thinks, he is not going to protest it
even if he too thought it was a mistake.

I dont think TE was a problem last season, the cowboy flaws and issues are elsewhere, like at DT and Safety ,
and it would be nice to have another good wr like amari.

I dont think witten is any better than the young guys, except he knows how to sit in a hole in a zone.
Witten whiffed on a lot of blocks, even back in 2007, I was just watching the pats vs cowboys 2007 game, and whitten
got easily beat by a LB who was blitzing, and who then sacked romo for big loss.
he also had a pass go right thru his hands, which that was rare, but sometimes players have big reps, for blocking or whatever
and I dont see how they got the rep.
I think everyone fell in love with witten when he ran down field with no helmet, and madden replayed it 20 times,
and then went on and on about witten .
after that witten could do no wrong.
But overall witten coming back isnt going to hurt the team , the team has so many issues, they are not going to SB anytime in near future.
The big hurdle for dallas with JG and Jones boys, is just getting past that div round game !:muttley: If they ever do that I will be surprised.

But he can only do a few things.

Those things.

Get open.
Catch the ball.
Block.

Terrible qualities for a TE, clearly.
Witten graded out as the #28 blocking TE according to PFF the last year he played. His yardage/catches/TD's were also roughly the same as the TE by committee that Dallas used last year. He's a year removed from playing and was slow as molasses when he last played.

I sure hope he can still catch

"mocked across the nation" huh? LOL, really?, Did you conduct a poll regarding this, or are you making this up for your agenda?/QUOTE]

Ineffective in that Witten can no longer stretch the field, but Witten can still be Dak's security blanket on 3rd downs. Dak seemed to be missing that last year.
In today's NFL, 3 to 5 million is not astronomical, given Witten's ability to mentor the younger TEs and overall leadership he will provide the locker room.
Like I mentioned earlier, Witten will help with the development of other TEs on the roster. and his signing will not keep the Cowboys from upgrading the TE spot, either by FA signing, or the draft. And those "3-4 yard routes" will be vital in moving the chains and providing a reliable target for Dak
NE doesn't think RB's are a dime a dozen.
