This just goes to show this coaching staff doesn't teach the fundamentals....I'm so done with this joke of a coaching staff. It's unbelievable this is a professional coaching staff.
Been saying this for a few years. We don't do any of the "small stuff" right. None. The attention to detail is horrible. Discipline, technique, game management and situational awareness are bad. And it's all on the coaching staff. It sucks. If by some miracle it is being taught properly and this stuff still happens......then the staff has to get rid of the player. Period.

This is the kind of stuff you learn in high school football. Don’t touch it if it goes past the LOS!
Anyone remember this back in the 2021 season?

That is the problem with this tenure of McCarthy. Paying attention to the detail and rules. This is what made Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, and Bill Belichick great coaches. Their teams did not lose many games because they were undisciplined and did not know the rules.

People bring up Leon Lett. However, Lett was put in the Miami game to block a FG kick, which would be behind or at the line of scrimmage. Lett had not been used in this position and did not know the rules as being coach on defense (miami 4-3 attack style) "see ball get ball".

The Cowboys player in the Bengals game is beyond the line of scrimmage and knows the rules as he is a ST player. This is the undisciplined allowing for mistakes that has haunted the Cowboys during the non Landry, Johnson, and Parcells days.

Good find. I remember this happened. Couldn't remember the game.

In no way shape or form should you go near the punter in that situation . Multiple things can go wrong . You want Turpin to touch the ball or at the very least give your team with time running out a chance to kick a FG. A kicker that can make a 60 yarder.

The guy that picked up the onside kick got his butt chewed by Bones and MM after he was done celebrating his TD. That blocked punt you fall on it or don’t touch it and we may have won the game. But MM poor playcalling and not running the ball down there throats cost us. Go pass happy when Rush was having issues passing the ball. Had a TE wide open on a planned dump off play, nobody in front of him. Threw it in the ground.

Leon Lett ruined my Thanksgiving that year. Was the first and last time I watched the game with my family. They were all fin fans. Went from congradulating me to laughing at me.

Coaching. We should try it sometime. Also the GM in training is/was thinking about bringing all of them back. We were a brain fart away from extending McCarthy and staff yesterday.

Yeah, details matter in a league where the difference between winning and losing can be special teams play.

The lack of attention to details with McCarthy is my biggest complaint. The stupid penalties, boneheaded mistakes, lack of time management…all areas where McCarthy has lacked.

Mike McCarthy is a good coach. But he is NOT a great coach. The difference between good and great coaches is often attention to details.
I think most would agree. But the bigger argument is can our dysfunctional ownership attract better.

And or do we just keep spinning the wheel out of frustration ? I think we should be careful what we wish for. It could be worse.

I think on the most part despite these issues we all see it’s been overall better culture under McCarthy. Team doesn’t give up like we saw in 2010 under Wade.

Is this a better culture than with Garrett?

These are the difficult decisions we must make. What are the odds we will land another HC with McCarthy’s experience and prior success?

Everyone seemed to be ok as long as we had 12 win seasons . Now the first sign of a depleted season when most of us knew this was going to be a transitioning year even before all of the injuries.

I’d suggest stepping back from the emotions that come from a season as such and weigh our options carefully.

Losses would crush me at that time, but that one didn’t. I was still confident they would get the one seed, and I also had the worst flu of my entire life and was about motionless in bed.

I lived in SFla for a few years and my Dolphin fan buddies used to try to bust balls over that one. My comeback was….Miami was 9-2 after that win. Lost the next five and missed the playoffs. Dallas never lost again and won the SB. That and the goalpost being in the front of the end zone last time they won anything lol. Good times. Used to be proud of my team, and this all occurred during the Campo years.

Last year finally broke me.

I can't wait for our new coach next year, when the players will never make mistakes.
That is gonna depend on the coaching hire. You bring in Belichick, you will have a smart, disciplined team. I can't say how much they will win but they'll be significantly better in the little things that make a difference in winning and losing.

I can't say I'm surprised. This is the same clown bunch that can't seem to get a handle on pre-snap penalties for crying out loud.

We all saw the player on the sideline standing with the coach after another Cowboy screwup. It's mind boggling, either the players are too stupid to retain the rules on blocked punts or the coaches are giving in real time lessons on the do and don't of touching the football on a blocked punt that ends up past the original line of scrimmage. either way it's just another reason why the organization should be considered the worse organization in the NFL. I'm just hoping and praying that the evaluation of this organization slips a billion dollars at a time and forces the Jones to sell his team to another billionaire who is a lot smarter than the Jones and put brilliant football minds in charge of the Cowboys.

The lack of attention to detail has been evident with this coaching staff for years.
There are two main reasons I want to move on from McCarthy and that is one of them.

I think the head coach has fostered a very mistake-forgiving environment so players do not have to worry about making mistakes as long as they don't make several of them.

The other reason is I hate his offense.

When you run slants and vertical routes and drive down the field and score touchdowns, only to then revert to comeback routes, low percentage sideline post routes and horizontal throws that gain 0-2 yards, it almost seems like McCarthy has no confidence in the team (even with Dak) or he thinks he is outsmarting someone, which is he not.

The defenses the Cowboys play have no respect for the Cowboys play depth. They crowd the line of scrimmage because they know most throws will be horizontal or comeback routes, so it's the safe and smart thing to do.

Just once .. I mean just ONE freaking time, I would love to see Lamb turn to catch a horizontal pass, then have the quarterback pump-fake a throw and then have Lamb turn and take off down the field.

Just doing that ONCE every so often would make the defense wait back on the play instead of tackling Lamb at or behind the line of scrimmage.

These are all common sense things.

It comes back to the same thing .. offenses should attack .. not finese their way down field. They should attack constantly and put the defense on their heels.

It’s a boneheaded play there’s zero doubt. The factor that many forget is that even when most of these players are taught not to touch the ball- when the ball comes flying towards them and they believe they can catch it, muscle memory and instincts kick in and they stupidly go for the catch.

The 2 instances imo both wright and last night aren’t because the players weren’t coached the right way….its a player who knows better making a bone headed mistake

Only twice in the last 10 years has a blocked punt traveled less than 20 yards, and the punting team got the ball back. Both times it was the Cowboys who blocked the punt, yet didn't gain possession.

The JonesBoys are so damn good at miracle choke stats like this. Romo is the only QB to lose a game where he had a 140+ rating, and did so twice.

How many times has there been something along the lines of "the last 1500 games were won by so and so... the Cowboys are the only team to lose this way"?
