Or he could be like Bill Bidwell, who risks practically nothing, collects dollars from the NFL revenue-sharing arrangement and has simply dust in his trophy case to show for it.

Criticize Jerry Jones if you will. But the man wants to win and will put his money where his mouth is.

Show me one player not in the jimmy johnson or bill parcells era that has been an outstanding player drafted or signed in free agency. Then show me the misses, the trading of draft picks and the terrible coaching hires to stroke his own ego.

You equate him to bill bidwell, well spending money the way he does will also get you like Dan snyder? You really want that? Thats what we have been.

I would like to see him more like the rooney family. Get good people in the personnel department, the war room, get a good solid coach, like parcells and then install a system and use the draft to continually bring in players that fit a role, if they become really stubborn or a detriment to the team you let them walk and use your personnel department to find a replacement.

See Plaxico burress as an example. Can you imagine if we had burress and let him walk? The rooneys and the steelers did and they got better. Teh most important thing about that too was that burress left but it didnt cost the steelers anything, he was not signed in free agency so he had no dead money left, he was not picked up a trade where the steelers gave up two picks for him settting the team back even further, he just walked and they moved on.

ITs all about team, the april draft and staying true to your system.

Jerry Jones reaches far too often, especially with the owens signing, its a reach that doesnt fit the character of the team or the design of the system we now have.

But hey he is on tv alot so we are supposed to like him right?

Jerry messed up with the whole Campo fiasco, late nineties, etc, but in my opinion he learned from his mistakes and hired Parcells.

Since then he has almost completely given free reign to Parcells in the handling of the team and held his ego in check, in my opinion the responsability of the failures on the field in the last three years fall squarely on the shoulders of Bill Parcells.

TO is, acording to his peers, the best receiver in football and a force on the field, and he is simply not being used accordingly. Why?

He is a nut, but he is also a difference maker, he can make an average team look good and a good team look great. That is why Jerry brought him here, thats his job, Parcells job is to maximize his talent for the good of the team and he is simply not doing that.

Three points:

1. The difference between Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder is that Jerry Jones has 3 Super Bowl trophies directly relates to his tenure with the Cowboys and Snyder has zero.

2. You use the Rooney family as an example, but the Rooney's had a longer drought between Super Bowl wins 1979-2006 than the Cowboys did, 1977-1993.

3. For every Rooney out there is a Georgia Fontaine (the Rams) who built a Super Bowl team with a solid core and spare parts (Kurt Warner).

There isn't really one way to build a Super Bowl team.

Furthermore, almost all Super Bowl teams are going to contain a core group of rookies. Aside from Jerry Jones' efforts to get Aikman that one receiver who he believed could put us over the top, Jones has dedicated himself to building the team from the ground up and through free agency.

It's not really an either or. But regardless, he has shown he wants to win, which included picking a coach like Bill Parcells when he handpicked puppets like Chan Gailey and Dave Campo.

you didnt answer my first question.

You can say jerry jones is not Dan snyder thats fine. I equate those trophies to jimmy's ability to draft well and make shrewd war room moves, and a little luck in taking emmit smith.

The rooney family although they had a drought, they have been competitive virtually every year since 95, few blips on the radar but many playoff appearances.

No there is not one way to build a superbowl team, that is an absolute fact but the backbone of every superbowl team is the talent they have from their draft.

Your take on building the team from ground up is false, he was not football savvy enough to see this team since 99 up has been severely talent deficient, instead he chose to throw money at anthony miller, rocket ismail and then take away two first round draft picks from a horrible team.

If his football savvy was worth a darn he would have known that the team needed those two first round picks desperately to be a good team, but he gave them away for a wr??? It has long been a golden rule you dont give up picks for wr, especially first day picks let alone first round picks.

To me that galloway trade told me everything I needed to know about jerry jones and his personnel intelligence. There is no way you make that trade, none, not one good reason.

I really have no idea how anyone defends Jerry Jones when it comes to personnel and being a gm of an nfl football team.

he won 3 superbowls with his money. the 1st 2 in a non-cap era. the 3rd he already had the pieces in place from that non cap era.

But who hired Jimmy Johnson and recognized he would be a great coach?

Who gave Johnson the flexibility to pull those trades (including the Herschel Walker heist and the trade for a disgruntled and immature Charles Haley)?

I don't know your age, but remember the hiring of Jimmy Johnson wasn't widely received in NFL circles and the running joke prior to the Cowboys making it big was that Jerry Jones hired his college roommate.

Second, it's very difficult in a team sport to find a single element of success. Jimmy Johnson needed Jerry Jones as much as Jerry Jones needed Jimmy Johnson. Trying to put everything on Jimmy Johnson as if he alone was the major reason for the Cowboys' success is silly.

But Jones deserves the credit and the criticism because it starts at the top.

I don't quite follow your point. It seems as if you're erecting Straw Men.

I didn't say that a team isn't built through the draft.
I initially said Jerry Jones does what it takes to win. Sure he may strike out, but he also has hit it big.

Nothing you said contradicts any point I made in my initial post. Let me repeat it again:

Those comments cover every point you're making.

Jerry Jones has struck out, which is why I said his risk-taking has produced 3 Super Bowls as well as a much of heartaches.

But regardless what you think of Jerry Jones, he's the man who ultimately signs the paychecks, approves of a trade, hires the coaches, etc.

And his risk-taking nature has produced home runs as it has strike outs.

There are some owners (Bill Bidwell for example) who have traditionally done nothing, have lost their talent (Thomas Jones, Simeon Rice, Garrison Hearst, Jake Plummer, Jay Novacek - talented players who went elsewhere and had successful careers) because they were unwilling to pay them and, by extension, unwilling to do what it took to produce a quality team that can compete for a championship. And, I might add, have nothing to show for their stinginess.

Jerry Jones, for all of his mistakes, is not one of those owners.

How you managed to segue into criticism of Jones' personnel decisions is beyond me.

Its all about jerry jones personnel decisions because after jimmy left who do you think was making them, that is how I segued into them. Shante carver ring a bell?

Yes I remember like it was yesterday 89, I remember many people including theisman for blasting the team and jones for bringing in jimmy and then taking aikman and then walsh. I remember that thanksgiving game watching aikman get his body taken apart. I remember that whole season thinking we dont have one good player! Except for well paul palmer and that worked out great he is like a wife beater or something now.

I am 29 by the way.

The answer I was looking for in regards to what players were worth a darn drafted or signed by jones after jimmy before bp were larry allen and ROy williams and my own personal take was that Chris warren was a very good player and served a good role here in 98.

Anyway we can argue this all night but it is kind of boring, there are alot that go into this, I just think personally that the destruction from jerry jones after jimmy was more devastating than the success he had. It carried over longer.

I want the cowboys to be winners more than anybody, I moved from ny just to be a season ticket holder, but I grow tired of hearing jerry jones sugar coat his mistakes year after year.

Owens is one of the top 3 wrs in the league. He is the first legit number one playmaker we have had since Mr Irvin! He is the game changer we have been looking for since Irvin left. A guy like that you MAKE fit on your team. You can game plan with him to take advantage of mismatches( if your OC has any brains at all). People are always having to account for where he is. I don't blame him for being mad about how he is being used. He is not being use. This is the type of guy you manipulte defenses with. Not us, we will just throw him out there and see what happens. Absolutley ********! Prossman:bang2:

Exactly...Jerry wants to win and he hired the best that was available.
This is in no way his fault and you should be arrested for even started such a thread.
He bought a team for $400 million and now its worth over a billion!
In four years he brought a SB!
I understand how tough it is to rebuild a winner and sure he has made his mistakes.
I credit him for go after BP, and T.O., and trying Deadslow!
Please ,we have problems but let's not put this one on Jerry. Switzer? Yes, that was Jerry! ( and he did win at least one SB).
Campo? Absolutely! But he correcte that mistake and made a conscious effort to change his approach of "being involved" for the betterment of the team of frachise.
No, I am not drinking the Jerry Jones kool-aid but I don't blame him for trying to win for hiring the best available.

Beast agrees. Calling out Jones is simply ********. He has owned the team 18 yrs and has given the fans 3 Lombardis. That is a Lombardi every 6 years. You could have freaking Bidwell from Arizona as your owner.

For perspective from 1960 to 1989, almost 30 freaking yrs, the Boyz won 2 Lombardis. That is 1 every 15 yrs. So in 18 yrs Jerry has brough you 3, and that is not good enough.....WOW

Yea, who in the world would want Jerry as their owner......right:lmao:

Oh if I could have Key back, I think this year would be going a lot better already. We may even be 2-2 at this point with Key, but it would be a better 2-2 then we are at now.
