Interesting Perspective
You should know how much I wish you were wrong.Depends what you mean by “ failing going for it”?
Does that mean just coming up short again in the playoffs or where we are basically Cap strapped for a few years to come and hitting rock bottom having to start all over again .
Because I can promise you that this ownership is NOT interested in placing all of their eggs in one basket risking hitting rock bottom and starting over .
That takes too much work and effort while trying to stifle all of the public scrutiny. It’s easier staying relevant and hyping hope with a fairly competitive product. More of a calmness to oversee than the uncertainty of rebuilding.
This is a good place for Jethro and Son regardless how much we might disapprove .
How can I being saying that when the draft is before us? We might get Robinson, or an outstanding receiver, or an outstanding olineman, or an oustanding tight end, or an outstanding dlineman, or a combination of players that are outstanding. A combination of outstanding picks could very well put them over the top. We will just have to see how it goes. The football gods will be involved in the 20 game season. It will be exciting regardless.Ok, but surely you aren’t saying we’ve done enough.
Come on, they could very well win it this year. Worst case scenario is they lose in the playoffs. Myself, I'm very excited with the draft coming up. I love it.You should know how much I wish you were wrong.
They are going to have to trip over a championship if it ever happens, and virtually ignoring free agency when a move or two could make you a favorite is lunacy.
Next thing you know teams like Detroit and the Giants will be at the top of the NFC, and we will still be just behind them.
They are content there.
This is the sentence that really stood out to me, and, I can't believe it's not blatantly evident to the front office.I don’t know about anyone else, but after the last 28 seasons of not even winning a divisional playoff game, what have we got to lose by “going for it” this year? If we strike out at least we swung for the fences.
And the Eagles still couldn't win it all after they went all in.It was wide open last year too Buccs and Packers sucked.
That is a bunch of bull. The owners want to win as much as everybody.Fans want a SB. Jones's want to be relevant at a reasonable expense.
Therefore, count on year 29 and after that 30. Nothing will change. The owners are content.
Yea they definitely could, but it won’t be because they seized the opportunity to become significantly better, it’ll be because the ball bounced the right way several weeks in a row.Come on, they could very well win it this year. Worst case scenario is they lose in the playoffs. Myself, I'm very excited with the draft coming up. I love it.
So are the fans that keep coming back. I want SBs like everyone else on here.....I just don't count on them as a right. I am content, I enjoy the games and that's good enough for me. That said, I'd be even more content with another SB....I was lucky enough to see the first five, I know how much fun those seasons can be.Fans want a SB. Jones's want to be relevant. The owners are content.
Great point. And the Eagles still couldn't win it all after they went all in.
No it isnt, the jones boys want to win a SB sure they do, but they dont want to take the risks necessary to accomplish the goal. That is a bunch of bull. The owners want to win as much as everybody.
again your thinking is limited, they got valuable SB experience, they now have confidence, and they know moreAnd the Eagles still couldn't win it all after they went all in.
With the departure of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady from the NFC, it has been mentioned many times on this forum lately how “wide open” the NFC is for the taking going into the 2023 season. I totally agree.
NOW - this season- is the time to push all the chips you can responsibly push to go for it; to do everything feasible to put together a roster that can be more than just “relevant”. NOW Is the time for this front office to take some risks to make this team BETTER. Now is NOT the time to be risk averse. If Jerry has anything left in the tank to once again be that “wildcatter” he used to claim to be, NOW is the time to go for it.

To me, listening to Stephen Jones explain why the salary cap limitations prevent us from doing things is like watching a hitter in baseball take a called third strike with two out with men on base. At least go down swinging! What are we afraid of? The 29th straight year of what we’ve been doing?
So with the draft ahead and the last parts of free agency afterward, these are some moves I want to see- needs that if addressed will obviously make us better immediately:
I commend the start to this off-season by our FO. The trades for Cooks and Gilmore look great. I like that they have been more assertive this off-season. But there is a ton of work left to be done. It’s time to go for it! If we fail after pushing all the chips forward, I would at least feel like we took a swing instead of just taking a called third strike.
- Offensive Playmakers- WR, RB and TE. Right now our playmakers are Tony Pollard, Cedee Lamb and Brandin Cooks. Getting Cooks was a big improvement, but we need another RB, another WR and a playmaking TE. I like Ferguson but he’s not enough IMO. I believe we will get some help there in the draft.
- Run stuffers- IDL and LB- as much as our defense has improved the last two years, we are STILL vulnerable against the run. If we are serious about a deep playoff run, we MUST upgrade these two positions. I’m glad we resigned Hankins, but folks, he’s not enough. I love the Gilmore trade, but that won’t help our run defense. We need a road grader that can help immediately. We need a LB that can be a beast against the run. LVE is adequate but he’s not enough, not to mention he’s an injury risk.
- OL Help- Tyler Smith was a great addition last year, but we are still very vulnerable here. I love Tyron Smith- he has truly been greatness for a long time. But folks we cannot count on this guy. He’s missed 32 games the last 3 seasons! Terance Steele will not be back until maybe October. Our OL needs some upgrading and depth. The Chuma Edoga signing is a good one year stop gap. We need more help here.
Jimmy Johnson used to say “you make your own luck“ most of the time. Let‘s go for it NOW!
100% agree that the Cowboys should be all in this year. With the departure of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady from the NFC, it has been mentioned many times on this forum lately how “wide open” the NFC is for the taking going into the 2023 season. I totally agree.

While GB and TB are not as strong as they were can we say the same about PHL and SF? Have they diminished in talent and does the addition of Cooks and Gilmore put the Cowboys on a even playing field with them?
First off, let me say neither was that much better than the Cowboys last season. It was pretty close between the 3 teams.
I do have some questions about PHL replacing coaching at both coordinator spots and SF at the QB position.
Then there are the surprise teams that always show up. Will that be DET, NO or SEA this season?
I think this season is the Cowboys best shot at the NFCCG in many years. Health, as always, is the key component, especially on that OL and interior of the DL.
And never, never, underestimate the mojo effect of the leg sleeve tattoo!
In hindsight, last year was the year to go for it. Who expected the entire NFC to suck? Not only that, but we played the worst division in the AFC. Dallas has to be a better team this year to match the record they had last year. Or it's going to end just like you say.I think we're gonna have a sleeper in our own division. It's either gonna be Washington with a quarterback or it's gonna be the giants with their good head coach. one of the 2 If not both.
This season is going to be tougher than we think. I might be wrong, I hope so.
However looking at our entire schedule right now. I have us at 9-8 or 10-7 and that's if we get above average results from MM and Dak.
I personally don't think that's ever a good idea. Are the Eagles cap strapped? They take the opportunistic approach. Look what they did in the draft last year with their three first round picks. Traded one for AJ. Brown. Moved up with the other for that colossal DT. Moved their final pick to this year with a trade with the Saints. They improved their position. They didn't just sit there like a boil growing hair. Then look at the players they picked up. Nothing outlandish. Nothing that would kill the cap, but more than Jerry is comfortable with. It was the CB, S, and DE.Depends what you mean by “ failing going for it”?
