In hindsight, last year was the year to go for it. Who expected the entire NFC to suck? Not only that, but we played the worst division in the AFC. Dallas has to be a better team this year to match the record they had last year. Or it's going to end just like you say.

Yeah, we've had a break the last 2 seasons in the division.

Yeah I know the pickings will be slim on day three.

But for me it's OL/DL with the first two picks whichever way you want. If a RB isn't selected with the next pick, it's a day three pick then.

The only RB I would draft early is obviously Robinson. But it is highly unlikely he will be there at 26.

I can't disagree with you here if an obvious choice is available with the positions you've mentioned. I agree completely. But what if there isn't? And a good RB is still there on day 2? We need an impact player at that position right now. A good RB will have more impact on our season than anything else right now. We have a good two year window to try to win something before things get complicated. Our D is good but for DT. Is there anyone we can pick up that would make a difference now? If we could land a good OL, I'd be for that too. But we can't just place all of our chips on Pollard. If something happens, the Cowboys aren't winning through the air. But I'm sure some stats jackass will disagree.

With the departure of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady from the NFC, it has been mentioned many times on this forum lately how “wide open” the NFC is for the taking going into the 2023 season. I totally agree.

NOW - this season- is the time to push all the chips you can responsibly push to go for it; to do everything feasible to put together a roster that can be more than just “relevant”. NOW Is the time for this front office to take some risks to make this team BETTER. Now is NOT the time to be risk averse. If Jerry has anything left in the tank to once again be that “wildcatter” he used to claim to be, NOW is the time to go for it.

I don’t know about anyone else, but after the last 28 seasons of not even winning a divisional playoff game, what have we got to lose by “going for it” this year? If we strike out at least we swung for the fences.

To me, listening to Stephen Jones explain why the salary cap limitations prevent us from doing things is like watching a hitter in baseball take a called third strike with two out with men on base. At least go down swinging! What are we afraid of? The 29th straight year of what we’ve been doing?

So with the draft ahead and the last parts of free agency afterward, these are some moves I want to see- needs that if addressed will obviously make us better immediately:

• Offensive Playmakers- WR, RB and TE. Right now our playmakers are Tony Pollard, Cedee Lamb and Brandin Cooks. Getting Cooks was a big improvement, but we need another RB, another WR and a playmaking TE. I like Ferguson but he’s not enough IMO. I believe we will get some help there in the draft.
• Run stuffers- IDL and LB- as much as our defense has improved the last two years, we are STILL vulnerable against the run. If we are serious about a deep playoff run, we MUST upgrade these two positions. I’m glad we resigned Hankins, but folks, he’s not enough. I love the Gilmore trade, but that won’t help our run defense. We need a road grader that can help immediately. We need a LB that can be a beast against the run. LVE is adequate but he’s not enough, not to mention he’s an injury risk.
• OL Help- Tyler Smith was a great addition last year, but we are still very vulnerable here. I love Tyron Smith- he has truly been greatness for a long time. But folks we cannot count on this guy. He’s missed 32 games the last 3 seasons! Terance Steele will not be back until maybe October. Our OL needs some upgrading and depth. The Chuma Edoga signing is a good one year stop gap. We need more help here.

I commend the start to this off-season by our FO. The trades for Cooks and Gilmore look great. I like that they have been more assertive this off-season. But there is a ton of work left to be done. It’s time to go for it! If we fail after pushing all the chips forward, I would at least feel like we took a swing instead of just taking a called third strike.

Jimmy Johnson used to say “you make your own luck“ most of the time. Let‘s go for it NOW!

From the moves they made so far and coming off of back to back 12 win seasons. Back to back seasons of making the playoffs. Getting to the divisional round. That is improvement over any stretch in the past 15 years.

See what they do in the draft to address the positions you mentioned. And if any of those are not filled, and they are that close with 1 or 2 players away. Then yes go for it, make some trades to solidify all the holes.

But will they do it. I am not one for giving up draft capital, as that is the way they got to this point.
But as I was once told, if the door is open, stick your foot in so it does not close, or that opportunity may not be there again. Go for it and know when to go for it.

I think with McClay and the scouting staff they currently have in place they could handle a rebuild much better than in past years.

The drafts have been considerably better under McClay than under his predecessors, especially Larry Lacewell.

First off, let me say neither was that much better than the Cowboys last season. It was pretty close between the 3 teams.

I do have some questions about PHL replacing coaching at both coordinator spots and SF at the QB position.

Then there are the surprise teams that always show up. Will that be DET, NO or SEA this season?

I think this season is the Cowboys best shot at the NFCCG in many years. Health, as always, is the key component, especially on that OL and interior of the DL.

And never, never, underestimate the mojo effect of the leg sleeve tattoo!

I think many fans do not realize or will not admit how much Philly or SF could take a step back. They want to use them as a measuring stick to rag on their own team.

Philly lost both OC & DC as you said. They lost 5 starters on defense or was it 6, and 2 on offense, and some OL depth as well. So far they have not replaced any to the same caliber type player.
A full year on them of film (video I guess).

SF also lost quite a few players on defense, gained Hargrave. They also lost their best OL or one of them. As well they lost their DC and didn't they lose their OC as well, though in name only? However since he did not call the plays, he was still considered a valuable coach.

Both teams lost much more than they gained the last time I seen anyway. As where Dallas at least stayed the same but many feel slightly improved.

Right. As Garoppolo is gone, as he was big factor in the past 2 years or more of any success they had. They decide to move onto. Lance, thinking he is the next Mahomes, but he was injured game 1.

Back to Jimmy G. When he was injured, they hit lightning in a bottle with Purdy. Winning within a great offensive system and surrounding skill players, once they got CMC to help. And with the best defense which helps any QB.

They could come way back down to Earth with either QB.

Truth is, your right. It really don't matter. They run such a tight ship in San Fran that they find a way to navigate and win.Its a product of coaching and having a plan that never deviates. Football is simple in that way. If we ever learn this, maybe we can win.

I think anyone can come up with a top 3, and each one can be arranged in any order. For the AFC.
Naming a top 5 in the AFC much harder, but there are 3 clear cut top 3 or 4. But the order would vary. Other than Mahomes at #1.

Mahomes, Burrows, Allen, though some may flip the last 2.

Purdy has a knack that you can't teach. Watched him several times. His floor is Brad Johnson, who wasn't a bad QB. Ceiling is a Joe Montana type. Dude really played well last season. Freaky good. He wasn't good just because of the system or team, it was much more than that. He knows where to go w/ the ball.

agree. They put their rookie QB in a situation where he could thrive and it showed. The good teams do this. We tend to always complicate matters. KM is case and point.
