This is how bad our backup QB situation is

It's troubling, but it's also a league wide issue. How many teams would be in great shape if their starting QB went down? Four? Maybe five?

So strive to be one of those teams. In the 90s we had Steve Beurlein, Rodney Pete, Ber or Kosar, who gave us a fighting chance when Troy went down.

I like The Nooch. The name was cool. But Rush won his only start in the NFL..

75% of the backup QBs in football wouldn’t get picked up if waived today. This post is entirely pointless.

Backup QB play in general is trash across the league, and on top of that you’d always rather have a guy who knows your play book than a slightly better backup caliber player who doesn’t. This is why backup QB is virtually never addressed via the wavier wire.

Solomon Wilcox was on nfl network radio this morning trying to stir up drama saying the Cowboys didn’t have a backup Qb on roster with the season so close to starting.
Technically he was right but he was acting like it was unheard of and that there was no plan to bring them back, knowing full well what was really going on.
Classic fake news from a talking head!

Ya, it REALLY is so BAD. If Dak goes down, we are a 3-5 win team. That is unacceptable. You would think they would have learned their lesson on this.

List the non-rookie backup QBs in the NFL clearly better than Will Grier or Cooper Rush.

Now, marvel at how short that list is.

This thread did jsut another example of blaming our FO for something virtually everyone in the game deals with. There aren’t enough good QBs to find 32 quality starters, let alone backups. Will Grier is an average backup NFL QB in 2022.

I was going to post the same thing.

I don't know what is worse .. that they expected no one would claim them .. or .. that if someone did, they cared so little about losing them.

Either way, that tells you all you need to know about those players.
It doesnt take long to understand every teams back up QB situation.
Even SJ could spend 15 minutes looking over league depth charts and know that the risk of losing our depth was minimal.

Exactly since the backup quarterbacks that other teams have are better than what we have/had.

That is why I said one of the reasons was likely, "they expected no one would claim them", which is a revealing assessment of our backup quarterback situation.

This is just objectively, unequivocally false under any rational definition of the term “better”. Hating Jerry Jones enough simply can’t make it so.

A super majority of NFL backup QBs are not good players. Their jobs exist out of necessity in most cases.

Cooper could not be claimed. New PS rules. This will set a trend in the NFL going forward.

I think so to. They can be protected and called up for games multiple times. As soon as an injury occurs, that player can go on IR and one of the QBs added to the roster. The problem is that any QB willing to be stashed on the PS probably has no other option and isn’t very good.

Let me simplify it for you.

To be fair, most teams probably have similar backup QB problem.

While I would make that claim about Maher.

I don't feel the same way about Rush. He knows he is a backup, he won a game for us last year and performed well and no way he wants to learn a new offense Cowboys know Rush is not going anywhere and after Grier's performance the other night nobody is picking him up.

A backup qb is "average"....how is this a bad thing? Are we supposed to carry 2 all-pro QB's?
I was being nice.
They are below average.
If they were league average they would have been claimed.
At least one.
Just my humble opinion.
I respect your right to see it differently.
