I've said the same thing for a long time, I think he's a mediocre OL coach

I wish we'd have brought in someone else, but I know Jones and Phillips had to at least be somewhat concerned about Garrett calling plays for the first time and thats probably oen reason they were really wanting to keep Sporano...I wont be at all surprised if someone else is OL coach next yr

Agreed here. I thought our OL was worse than it should have been last year, and it just doesnt run block well. I have to put that on Sparano.

I pulled something up after game 2 or something, because it seemed that when Julius Jones was looking really good he was getting great holes in 2004 and part off 05. I found out that he got worse when Sparano took over the OL.

And I'm already on record stating that I think our offense last season was vastly overrated and a crap scheme, so I wouldn't mind some other team snatching him up as OC.

The inability to run is what's causing all of our 3rd and longs. I think we should be trying for more short and quick passes instead of Tony going for 10+ yards each passing play.

The biggest difference with the 90's guys. Bigg can certainly get it done, but other then that we just do not have the guys who can do it consistently. They are much better pass blockers then run blockers- and they do wear down the D line so that we can run later in the game. BUT they cannot get it done against a fresh D.

They sold out to stop the run. We don't have an elite RB to counter that so of course our run game is gonna suffer.

Back in the 90's we had Emmitt to make that 8th guy miss. We have no one in Emmitt's class on the roster.

MBIII got stoned quite a bit last night too

it isnt the runners...its the blockers...New England (past two games) and Indy this past weekend are clearly showing if you have a good OL with great QB play, you can run the ball pretty much regardless of who the runners are

we should be able to run better than this

David

I don't disagree that we should be able to run better, but when you're on your own one, you give it to the back who was second in the NFL in fewest stuffs per carry.

Barber, that is.

Regarding the comment on NE running.
Sammy Morris is a better runner than JJones and about equal overall to MBIII.

i dont even think our O-line is a great pass blocking unit i think their solid. Romo makes them look better than they really are. although they are great at wearing down a defense in the 4th quarter.

Guys it is NOT just this game. The whole season so far. For all our size we SHOULD be able to open GAPING holes.
I agree, many times I think the quicker defenders give them trouble, they are more straight ahead blockers,if they cant get to the 2nd level with there blocks the LB can clean up. They did load the line last night, but that's when you have to pass to loosen them up to run.

thats your opinion...Morris is not as talented as either of the two backs we have

if he were running here, he probably wouldnt avg 3.0 yds per carry

we have 2 guys on the line who just aren't good run-blockers, Gurode and Colombo

theogt pointed this out awhile ago, and I think that this rings true, Gurode is just not good blocking out in space, and Colombo is a very good pass-blocker, but is just average run-blocking, the left-side of Kosier and Flo is a very good run-blocking unit, last year we averaged 4.9 yards a carry to that side, and Davis is good run-blocking, idk how it's all going to work out, but that's the problems I see on the line from a run-blocking stand-point, Gurode and Colombo

before you guys go off on Sparano, remember that run-blocking is just one facet of Oline play, we are very good protecting the passer, and 2, you can coach all you want, but the players have to execute, and we have 2 bad run-blockers on the line, Gurode and Colombo

he's probably the worst run blocker of the 5, and he also got owned alot in pass protection too

David

no he didn't, the only time the DE on that side of the ball got near Romo was on the tip and INT TD where Romo stepped out towards him

i disagree that teams aren't loading up on the run. early in games you can see 8 guys in the box.

i haven't watched the bills game, so we'll see. but rocket ismail said their defensive playcalling was great. on run plays they called a play to clog up the running lanes. on passing plays, they ran back deep to cover the middle and long ball.

it doesnt suck, but it is not "the strength of the team" either...its average at best

and the run blocking has basically been dismal

what are you watching then? do I need to go get the numbers for you?

you are looking at the totals and saying "hey thats great" but if you look at the bigger picture and break things down by each play, the run game has NOT been solid, and it hasnt been good...the numbers are padded because of a few really good late game runs by MBIII

we seem to end up in alot fo 2nd and 3rd & longs

I can't believe the negativity about the offensive line. You'd swear we've averaging 14 points a game the way some of you talk.

I'll admit that the run blocking hasn't been great... especially vs the Bills. But the Bills were very aggressive against the run even if some of you refuse to believe that.

And I think some of you think that early 90's Cowboy teams just came out onto the field in the first half and ran Emmitt Smith down their throats for a 5 ypc average-- And that's not how it was-- not at all.

Emmitt would usually have about 10 carries for 35 yards in the first half while Aikman and the passing game would move the ball up down the field enabling the offense to go into the half with some sort of lead. THEN in the second half Emmitt's carries and ypc would pick up a great deal while the opposing defense was given a beat down.

For those of you that think the offensive line is suppose to open up huge holes, play after play-- well you're nuts quite frankly. It doesn't work like that. Let me share a secret with you-- the guys on the other team get paid too.

Or we could have Sean Payton has our HC, and the entire CZ would be going BONKERS over his pass-happy/abandon the run playcalling.:laugh2:
