Thats why I was clear Bach that I know that people will still overstep the bounds of decency to promote their dislike of the players and coaches he has put in place.

I was merely hoping to bring about a pause to consider what is most important, his skills (or from your perspective lack thereof) as a GM, or his willingness to be a good human being. This is the question I hoped to have all of my fellow zoners ask of themselves.

So ask yourself Bach, and others, what is more important about the man who runs our favorite football team? Your answer to this question will do nothing more than to give you a little self discovery regarding your priorities.

I'm all for having a very nice, compassionate person own the team. I would hope most owners were compassionate towards their employees/players.

I mean my grandfather was the kindest, humblest, nicest man I've ever known. But would I want him making personnel decisions for the Cowboys? No.

You know Jimmy Johnson and BP were known to be hard***es and sometimes ruthless. But I'd much rather have them running the show than someone who he is just compassionate and nice but a poor GM.

i know people hate jones. got it. you can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone who hates jones with the white hot passion of a thousand dying suns.

but that doesn't mean i want to hear about it every time his name pops up. it also doesn't mean that's what i want to focus on when i have time to talk football these days, which isn't much. i'm barely active on my own site these days - much smaller and for good reason.
.

No you don't "got it". I dont' know anyone who "hates Jones" as a person. I know quite a few though that hate the way he's run the team. Two very different things there. If people can't understand that, then that's their problem.

yea, bach. i get it. when a jones convo turns up you're the cheerleader for "hate the gm, don't know the man" and look for acceptable places to hide your hate.

when you said you wish jones was in the tent, i didn't see "jones the gm" did i?

no.

jones the fictional character?

no.

i don't give a flying damn about WHY you hate jones or even in which parts - i know far too well why and i just don't care. it's old. i know when a jones compliment comes up, bach will be here soon to screw it up. you simply can't let someone express a positive jones thought w/o throwing your hate in.

too much of that in here. keep it. you'll never stop the whinefest and give others a chance, so that only leaves a few other options for me. post very little, read just a little more, and go back to ignoring you and your need to hate someone you simply don't know.

i know why, bach. i'm just long since tired of hearing you whine about jones the GM.

There you have it Bach, in this exercise of self discovery I think we can agree we have found that your priorities are a bit different than mine.

For me, I would like to see every man be like Jerry Jones, but alas I know that there are very few like him. For you it is perfectly fine for someone to be of a lesser moral charachter, as long as your favorite football team wins.

Who is right ? That too depends on perspective!

thanks for the post man. i'm starting to get too "into it" so i'm backing back out now and hitting the company cafeteria. i agree the measure of a person is the whole, not a single part you don't care for. jones owns the team and can do whatever he wants with it. like any of us could. that just makes him a target to some and that's part of the business i suppose.

berg out.

The problem is that too many who really hate him as the GM put that hate into everything about him. They made stupid, and tasteless jokes, during situations that jokes are not relevant or needed.

It's one thing to not like how he is as a GM but the hate some people spew, in any capacity, is just flat silly at times.

Someone could start a thread about how he's opened 5 youth centers, is trying to help to keep young people off the streets, out of gangs, and away from drugs (this is just an example of course, not something that he's done or anything) and you'd still have people come into the thread that has nothing to do with Jerry the GM and bash him to pieces cause they hate Jerry The GM.

I will give JJ his props for this, and along the same line, give props to DS. Not speaking of him as a football guy, I was at last years HOF game, and they did a tribute to ST and I watched Snyder's reaction. Our two owners care, and they get it, about the personal nature, the real lives of the men who play this great sport. Some owners think of these teams as their personal toys, to use and abuse as much or as little as their whims bring it to them. Both Snyder and Jones are dedicated to winning (they may not know the right way, but they try with everything they have). You can't convince me every owner would have flown his whole team to Miami in the middle of the season for the funeral of a teammate. Some would move on.
I respect the Cowboys organization (as much as I "hate" it) and I pay respect to those that were hurt, and to JJ for taking the time to care about the really important things in life.

You know I don't often post much. I read a lot believe me. But just reading the stupidity spewing forth from Bach just bothers me. Now you can say I'm bashing him, and it's his opinion or whatever. But honestly if you don't have anything nice to say about the man in a thread like this. Then you need a reality check. The old saying goes if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Just because you're at your desk behind your computer, you think you can say whatever you want.

But that's the problem you see. People whine and complain about there being no accountability on this team. Well guess what? there's no accountability for what most of the posters on this board post. Therefore acting like a complete ****** is perfectly ok. I'm willing to bet if someone such as Bach were standing face to face with Jerry Jones, he'd do nothing but shake his hand and have a big smile on his face. Why? because He now has accountability for what he does, and he's not able to hide behind some screen name on his computer. That's the truth and anyone arguing against it is only kidding themselves.

It truly inspires me to see good character in action. I love being challenged by the good character of others. The closer I am to them the more I am impacted.

That said. More and more, I am open to being around folks of seemingly questionable character as well. Because we're all in process. And often times it takes very little to put a seemingly bad apple on the right road. If it takes more than a little, that's cool too. As long as there is a spark of interest in doing the right thing.

While I had reservations about Pacman, Tank & TO joining the team, once they were aboard I was excited by seeing them work towards improving their character. I was interested in trying to discover who they really were versus their perceived image. And I was interested to see what truly motivated them.

I think at least two of those three were indeed interested in cleaning up their act or at least the perception of their act. Given that, I was more than happy to have them on the team and sorry in some ways to see them go because I think the team could've been good for their character development.

I want Jerry Jones to be the best owner & GM he can possibly be. That's important to me as a fan of this team. Do I want him to cut corners on character to do so? Absolutely not. Is my fandom increased when our owner demonstrates admirable character? Yes. Do I have to choose between winning and good character? No. But if I did have to, give me good character.

I know a lot of great people and humanitarians that I wouldn't want running my team. Jerry could be the nicest person to walk the earth since Jesus, but that's irrelevant when it comes to being a GM.

Jerry: "Wade, who do you think we should draft here at #51?"
Wade: I got Bach, NFL expert from the Cowboyszone, on the phone, he says, he thought the military quit using the draft after the Vietnam War, so hes kinda unsure.

I'll never understand how anyone could stand being a Cowboy fan while harboring such hate for Jerry Jones.

You'd have to be some sort of masochist. How can you stand it?

If it were I, I'd have to take a few steps back from the Cowboys and the NFL. I couldn't stand the pain and agony of being both a Cowboy fan and a true Jones hater.

I have always admired Jerry Jones for his unswerving loyalty to his people. In this day and age, it is a great thing to see, especially from the top. Sometimes it might bite him in the butt, but even then you can see it comes from a very admirable impulse. And Jerry doesn't do these things just to be showy: His behind the scenes support of Crazy Ray during his illnesses were the actions of one dedicated fan supporting another.

Thanks for the post on this CD. I too appreciate Jerry Jones, the man.
