The link is above. If you go to confirmed guests, you will see Emmitt and Sam Hurd's name among others. This doesn't mean Hurd knows or said anything but does add more credibility.

I think the only confirmation I would accept for this story is a pic of Hurd holding up a big *** sign that read "Jerry won't resign Barber because he's going to go after McFadden...also, I'm a friggen d-bag and don't have the slightest idea of what I'm talking about."

That'd work for me. ;)

Wish we wouldn't doubt and be hard on older members with posts so quickly (he has been here since 06).

If it was said, it was said. If you don't like it, thats another thing. I would be the same if he had 2 posts and joined yesterday, but thats not true.

Sam might be talking out the side of his neck really, but the deal is this, and its rather obvious. Jerry isn't going to think about a long term deal with Marion until after he sees what happens in the draft, period. Whether its got something to do with DMac, who knows. All we can do is wait til the draft and find out.

^^^What he said....which basically means...as soon as McFadden goes to Raiders, Jerry will give Barber a multi-year deal. Problem solved. Carry on.

Besides the trading thing, I am thinking that (1 year deal). While barber performed farely well last year. He - His Agent- wants him to get paid like a feature Pro Bowl RB. Jerry has yet to see this pro-bowl level for more than year. Most likely during the middle of the season you'll see his contract get done, IE Romo. Jerry is no longer just throwing money around, unless it's earned. And in reality Barber has had only one great year. This is a show-me league. And Barber has to come back next season and show it some more. If Romo has to do it, then so does Barber

Very good post. Hurd may have been talking about something that he knows nothing about. It may just be his opinion. But, I've wondered if we were going to keep him since he was made the starter in the playoff game. I thought at the time that it was to increase his trade value. Why else would you make a backup a starter just before his contract was being renewed. I understand that he was the best back on the team, but he had been all year.

I am a big fan of MB3 and don't want him to leave. He is one of my favorite players on our team. I just wonder if the Cowboys are as committed to MB3 as most of the fans are.

I think that he is approaching this just as he did with Romo. Lets see if Barber can handle the load as the go to guy, then work a contract out.

Boy, am I going to get hammered for this comment. I am not sold on Barber being able to handle the load with the way he hits others. There have been some backups that have not faired well as a full time starter. Now I am not saying that he won't or that he can't, but nobody knows yet. I felt the same way about JuJones when it seemed that everyone was on jockstrap after those few amazing games. I do hope that Barber will be the guy and if we draft a RB, be it in the 1st, 2nd, or whenever, I hope that Barber solidfies himself as the man. But I just wouldn't be shocked, although dissapointed on Barbers behalf, if the draftee became the starter down the road. Not until we see Barber as the starter for more than one game.

Sam Hurd is friendly with Barber and him on 'Inside the Huddle' last season.

But it was probably a conversation between Hurd and MBIII where he's unhappy that he isn't getting a long term deal so he maybe thinks Jerry is holding off because he wants to see how the draft goes down.

We have all heard Jerry say he might possibly trade up for D-Mac if he slips past the top 10 picks.

It's not like Hurd or MBIII came out in a presser and said this stuff.

The poster is just relaying some 'hearsay' which is cool.

I can see this being the case. If McFadden drops and we go get him, it may make barber less of a priority. I'm not for it, but it would seem that jerry is covering his bases.

FYI-we don't even have the cap room to give McF Top 5 pick money.

As for MB3 not getting a long-term deal, I myself am starting to have my doubts about whether he should. Hate to say it, but he's not an every down back.

FYI, Stephen can take of that in a couple days. Only question is, is it smart?

We all know Marion and his agent is going to want feature back money. Problem is, we can't treat him like a feature back on the field. We will have to have another back that can carry at least 10 times a game, and you can't just get a cheap back to fill that role. Paying for a feature back that will carry the ball all the time and be spelled like 2-3 times a game is one thing, but having to spend money on a feature back and another good back is a waste of resources. If they have to share the load that much, neither should get feature back money.

Should be interesting to see what happens. Barber will have to earn that money this year, and if he wants to be paid like a feature back, he will have to carry the ball alot more than alot of us think he can or want him to in order to get it.

Romo is different, he is the QB, thats it. Barber is trying to get paid like a franchise back, and yet we are thinking about using a first rounder to back him up. Its all about the dollars and cents really and thats alot of money for that position.

I'm not for it either. I'm not against getting McFadden if he drops...I think he's a good player....but not at the expense of Barber. I'll take the proven player every day.

I'm on the "pay Barber, draft Rice" bandwagon. :D Problem solved.
