That's what we saw tonight, and there is still some work to be done. Miami ranked 5th in defensive pass rating and 12th in points per drive in 2013. That's a top 10 defense, according to the most important metrics.

Yes, the gameplan was vanilla. But when your OL is truly elite, you shouldn't have to rely on scheme anyway.

It is disappointing, but we have to remember that Tyron Smith isn't close to being the best tackle in the league yet, Berny/Leary aren't very good, Fredbeard is only in his second year, Martin is a rookie, and Free is a mid-level RT, at best. It is still a few years away from being elite.

T Smith will get it together. OTOH I have major reservations about Free.

Agreed. I don't think this group is going to be elite overnight. It takes time. Time to perfect technique, learn nuances, build strength, build cohesion among the group, etc.

I think it has the potential to eventually become elite. But there will be some growing pains.

Same song, different verse.

Whenever we expect part of this team to emerge as elite, it consistently fails to meet expectations.

That is why the Cowboys rarely beat teams with winning records.

More reasons than that

Broaddus mentioned this would be a tough match. He said it would be a more straight up blocking scheme. We weren't going to do anything to scheme for Wake.

Still, I would like to have seen a better effort.

PFF had Tyron has the 3rd rated tackle in whole NFL last year. If that isn't close, then I don't know what is.

I'm pretty confident we could pull this thread up a couple months from now and have a good chuckle. Its not perfection, but don't underestimate how good this line really is.

This offense did some familiar things by causing self inflicted penalties to put themselves in terrible yardage.

I'll have rewatch, but I felt like the Cowboys went no huddle alot, sort of like they were working that specific aspect only in a road game?

Doug Free is the weakest link on the OL, and it's scary to think that Parnell can't beat out Doug Free.
