Ok, I'm jumping in here to state the obvious:

1. Dak has severe limitations against superior personnel and coaching that actually does their job to put this team in a position to at the very least compete against better teams. We all know what Dak will deliver against above average teams. We have seen his play get progressively worse every year. I see the posts too and I have made a few regarding the Dak........ k.

2. MM - has been in this league long enough to be able to put together a damn game plan. Um, I don't know dude -watch tape of the team your playing that week? Just spit ballin here.

3. DQ - very good coach for sure, but you let your former OC out scheme you, what????

4. DC player's need to stand up for each other and not pout when things don't go their way. What happened to the brotherhood of being a DC player....ie: Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Aikman....these dudes were on the sidelines holding other players accountable, not waiting for the flop and talking Sh#t at the end of the game press conference.

5. I know the forum will come at me on this one. The offensive line is terrible, injuries aside. Let Trey Lance go the rest of the way.....he can at least run for his life when the ball is snapped.

6. Lastly - all of us are aware that SF has damn good football ream. That is not an excuse to just lay down like that. My God.....been a fan since 1967 and that was the worst effort I have ever, ever seen from a DC team. Coaching and Players combine. Complete garbage.....you should all donate your paychecks to a worthy charity. I know if I were to turn in my work like that, I would be looking for a job the next day and rightly so. Disgusted! what a waste!!!!

We can follow and root our team on with a more critical eye being suspect of the same ole rhetoric from our snake oil salesman refusing to buy in to hype until more proven evidence .

Enjoy the game . Cleveland a nice area. I dated a girl years ago from Bedford.

Exactly, and nice. I know Bedford. Cleveland really is a nice area. Very nice people here for the most part.

You need to make a copy of your post because you can reuse it again in 10 more years. Nothing will change, as I said 17 years ago and was mocked
So true....groundhog day.....its al labout the money for these guys.

I have to question their entire philosophy when it comes to acquiring quarterbacks.

Let me stop for a second and assure everybody, this is not an attack on Dak. This issue is far deeper than the career of a single player.

It always seems to appear as if the Cowboys are done with the quarterback position as soon as they feel they have found a suitable quarterback. They just seem to pack it in once that quarterback is found. The only other effort they take when it comes to the position is finding a cheap backup with very little to no ability to compete for the starting position. The starting quarterback is anointed and the only way his backup plays is injury, blowout, or meaningless game #17.

There is no competition. In fact, Dak became the starter purely by an improbable chain of events. He was going to be the 3rd quarterback and even that wasn't sure. For almost 20 seasons there has been no fear by the starting quarterback that he could possibly be replaced by another with a similar skill set. The starter can set his own standard, he doesn't really have to elevate it to keep his job.

The Cowboys management has done so little to create an environment of competition at the quarterback position and the reason may be traced to the conflict of interest that arises when the owner is the GM. You cannot market your quarterback in terms of selling tickets or associated merchandise unless you build him up as a face of the franchise. As far as Jerry Jones is concerned a "franchise" quarterback is one that has started for two consecutive seasons.

There has been three "franchise" quarterbacks by that definition since Jerry bought the team. Once these three quarterbacks satisfied the minimum requirement to be designated as such, they never had to face actual competition for their jobs.

The Cowboys have never made any serious investment in the quarterback position since drafting Quincy Carter in the 2nd round of the 2001 draft. Since then, they have drafted two QB's in the 4th round, one in the 5th and one in the 7th round.

In fact, the Cowboys are the only team not to draft a QB in the top 3 rounds since 2002, over 20 years.

Meanwhile, Tex Schramm and company drafted 9 quarterbacks from 1971 to 1979, a period in which Roger Staubach took the Cowboys to 6 NFC championship games and 4 Super Bowls. That's an average of one quarterback drafted every year. Danny White was drafted in the 3rd round and Gary Hogeboom in the 2nd. Even Roger Staubach was not immune to competition.

The problems with not being able to succeed in the playoffs had very little to nothing to do with the QB's. They are not the problem, simply one of the more obvious symptoms of the real problem. The real issue is team culture. It is a culture of unearned entitlement and it is spearheaded by Jerry Jones.

The niners were more physical at every single position I saw last night.
The Cowboys seemed over matched. No swag or anything similar to what we saw against the Pats. Total shell shock it looked like to me. A championship caliber qb elevates his team when crunch time comes. Just sayin...but didn't happen with our guy. Was a disaster from the word go but if we meet in the play offs if n we get there then who knows how he and his supporting cast will play? I think we will all tune in if that time arrives. Why? Because we love misery? No, it's because we still somehow believe this group of guys can overcome and we are fans of this team. Three losses to the 49'ers in a row is bad but four is not likely to happen. We are due our day.

The core problem has 5 letters: J-O-N-E-S. They are really good at making money. That’s it. They aren’t good at building championship rosters. Sure the QB is not great, the defense is undersized, we have an outdated offense, and a soft culture. But those problems were all caused by the real problem: The top of this organization.

This team needs a rebuild starting at the GM position. Having the same two guys making all the big decisions about this hasn’t worked for so long now just changing or adding to the player mix or changing HCs isn’t going to fix the core problem.
Jerry Jones has hired a good player evaluator for the draft in Will McClay. Without McClay, this organization is a perennial 6-8 win team.

In fact, in my estimation here are the biggest problems and how to fix them:
  • (Before I hear from everyone, I already recognize this won’t happen) Jerry needs to hire a real GM. The Jones FO has a fundamental very bad problem- they don’t realize THEY are the problem. They are surrounded by people that tell them what they want to hear. Until that changes, we will continue this nearly 3 decade cycle. They think they are really good and they aren’t. (Except how to make money) They think waaaaaaaay too highly of their own talent. Which is deadly in a league where other teams are led by men who‘s job depends on their success.
  • It’s time to plan for a new QB- easier said than done, but this organization never seems to get serious about drafting a QB. Look at SF. They had just drafted their “franchise” QB in Trey Lance two years ago and still drafted Brock Purdy in round 7 and got lucky anyway. That never happens here because they don’t even try.
  • This defense is undersized and cannot impose its will without a big lead. Parsons is a great talent but I’m not convinced this team knows how to use him properly. They can’t stop the run when they have to. If Parsons is neutralized, the defense is pedestrian.
  • This offense is outdated and takes few chances- This isn’t the 90s or early 2000s. The “West Coast Offense” is not used much anymore because defenses have figured out how to stop it. It is in essence a very conservative offense that without any real deep threats is anemic.
This embarrassing loss could be used for good if the leaders of this org would allow it. (They won’t)

The rest of this season they should be way more aggressive, continue churning the roster and send the message that NO ONE is guaranteed anything. They won’t do that, but they should.
Haze---thinks through before posting a thread.....He is not overly emotional Homer like me...except Sunday night cured all Homerism in me...and what Haze

It's always time to plan for a new QB.
They cost too damn much and we see time and again some downroster guy who cost nothing and *gets a chance* shining when he has a team around him.
Just keep em coming. Use roster spots on them.

Love the Lance pickup. A low price roll of the dice. Keep em coming.

As usual bullet you are spot on three decades of this misery with one common denominator

I've said in many threads there's only one way to preserve your sanity and your fandom while the Joneses are running our team lower your expectations to just making the playoffs

That's where they've shown they are capable of taking us and that's all I expect but sometimes like you a player a coach something comes into the picture that gives me a little hope that we could get a little further then I am smacked back to reality with a game like we had the other night

An outstanding and accurate post. The entitlement of our last two “star” QBs is completely fostered at the top by this organization. And it’s not just at the QB position. When Zeke was here, Jaylon Smith, Miles Austin and others back some years ago….all guys who had big contracts were completely insulated from competition and challenge.
