This Team Did Not Close The Deal... But...

I honestly believe that we have to be happier and more optimistic than we want to believe.

All phases of our game was improved.

Yes, the blocked punt, it hurt and it sucked. But lets give the Jets and D-Coord credit.

The offense showed what I can really be. We cannot be too bummed that we didnt fire on all cylinders right away in game 1.

The defense. This has been a tough view for me. I thought they did great in tackling and limiting YAC. BUT we still were playing the Jets, not an offensive juggernaut by any means.

Im going to be honest, as being one of the posters who claimed the Jets would beat us, I would be pissed if I was in charge of the Jets. THe Jets bascially came into the season with their playoff team, against a team that has been revamping and that Revamped team took us to the woodshed if NOT for a few lucky favors by the football gods.

This HOWEVER does not excuse Garrett from any blame because those lucky favors are still the curses that hang over this team. Its his jobs to get rid of them, not ride with them.

Ive let it be known from day 1, i am not pleased a few coaches are still on this team, that being said, im not yet impressed with the new ones yet, but time is on their side, not the others. For Houck, its a determent.

It is Garretts job to shake these guys hands, wish them well and write a favorable letter to whomever is looking at them and saying to themselves, these guys can take our crappy team and not make one improvement what so ever. There are teams out there willing to do that.

I think its also time to accept that some players are what they are and no matter the threads, its not going to make that player any better.

I would have been thrilled if we won, tho reality is what it is and the reason no one can ever predict it is because you cant think of every factor that reality will throw at you. If you are confused about this, think about doing a picnic without watching the weather channel. You'll quickly figure it out.

I would in my heart want to hear Garrett is doing like Santa Claus and he has a list and that bad boy is going to be checked and checked a lot, because if it were up to me, the scouting department would be on notice.

The real fact of reality tho is that this team wouldnt be deteremined on week 1, but rather week 2, since both teams are almost doing the same thing. New coaches, new schemes and new ways of doing things. THis is the bar to pit this team against and see where the chips are, no point in throwing them and seeing where they land, now we have to see where they land and start moving them. WHo really is our number 2 TE, can Romo lead this team to a moral victory and will our Oline hold up are a few examples of questions that need to be answered. A lot others, but to indepth to go into in one post.

This thread is also good because its time for posters to understand if Garrett is looking for the big overhaul where hes not worried about winning all the games, but getting players involved for winning for next season and building a team instead of mish moshing it. I would like to put myself in this boat and waiting to see what happens instead of knee jerking every loss. Its going to be a wait and see what we have season, vs lets hope we get to the SB or playoffs season. If this is the case, than a lot of other questions are going to pop up. Than also id liek to get new young coaches in here instead of retreads. But Garrett might also be here for another year depending if no progress is made this season, which before you agree, is just plain silly, look at the defense. Special teams im not impressed with but Rob has already made his impact felt, i just hope Garrett catches up this week.

This week should answer more questions and leave us with a better understanding where to gauge the team than instead of a already proving playoff team. Which isnt just in the numbers, but how does the team handle most other teams, which is what makes them playoff material compared to a 10 win team that played sub par teams. I fully believe the Jets have a better team right now, I just feel Garret and Rob put the fear of God and doubt into Rex and company.

VERY LOGICAL.

Admittedly, this was very hard for me to fathom after the game.

But I got there the next day or day after... dont remember which day :)

same here whcih is why im not blasting the post, but understanding and saying yeah, we were right there and should have taken it, but its hard to take it from a better team and right now, the Jets are. Is it an acceptable loss, well theres really no thing in the competitive or money hungry world of acceptable losses, did we hold our heads up during it, yes, and even glared with kewl looking bright eyes, but at the end of the day we lost and they didnt and than the chips fall again.

This is the one part that worried me too. Was this more about Sanchez not being very effective or was it that our defense actually played pretty good? We probably won't get an answer this week because we're playing against another potentially incompetent QB (a good thing with our banged up secondary) but we'll be seeing better QBs after that.

Call me naive, but I happen to think that Jason Garrett will use this loss in refining this team into the hard-working, mistake-avoiding team he wants it to be.

I expect the Cowboys to but a serious beat-down on the 49ers. Remember, this is a 49ers offense that scored 19 points against a Seattle defense lacking a big-time defender like DeMarcus Ware and a Tavaris Jackson-led offense that could only put up 14 points.

I don't expect this game to be close. I expect Romo to go off, Witten to have a touchdown and the defense to just manhandle Alex Smith.

We'll score above 30 points.

this brings me back to the saints game i think pre drew brees and they were banged up and mentally beaten and finding people off the street and just took us to the house every which way.

I think the team didn't look 'sloppy.'

It certainly wasn't a smooth sailing operation, but it wasn't sloppy to me.

Yes, they had a blocked punt. But, from listening to the analysts it appears that it was more of a great coaching strategy by the Jets ST coach than it was a sloppy play by the Cowboys. And truth be told, if it happens week 1 I think chances are that it will NOT happen again. It certainly could, but I don't think it will.

Also, the O-Line got *better* as the game progressed. Haven't seen that in awhile. Often times it seemed like the O-Line would regress or if it got off to a rough start...it was going to be a long day.

The team looked prepared and intense. It looked like we adjusted well to a lot of things and had a good gameplan. We haven't had that since the Jimmy days.

They didn't close out the game. I am not happy.

I will be optimistic when this team takes care of business.

Until then, the glass is smashed to pieces.

Dallas looked like a really good team that found a way to lose a game.

I'd be a lot more inspired about the potential outcome of the season if what happened Sunday Night happened once in awhile but it is a trend here in Dallas.

The Cowboys have been their own worst enemy for years now.

Will it change? I hope but we're off to a terrible start.

Not all phases. We need to run the ball better. The offense showed how it cna turn the ball over more oftern than is acceptable when it commis turnovers off passing plays that happen on classic running downs. Garrett admitted that he resorted to more passing plays because Dallas struggles to establish a ground game. Adding Dockery to the starting line is indication that it had more to do woth Dallas' OL limitations than the NYJs DL strength.

Then that is foolish mistake of Garrett's part.

Sometimes, you run and run and run. THEN it finally breaks the game open.

Cant always establish a run.

Sometimes 3 and out's and punting is better than going one dimensional. Teams can then pin their ears back and no your entire game plan for rest of game.

The Commanders beat the Giants on Sunday. It looks to me like the Giants are a complete mess trying to figure out how to cope with the injuries they have suffered.

The Commanders did not look that good to me, but I'll be honest they looked better than the so called dream team did in beating the Rams.

Dallas looked better in defeat, even with the flub up by Romo to clinch it, than the other three division teams.

  • The Cowboys need to improve their running game, it was especially horrible in short yardage.
  • They also need to improve on special teams, it would be nice to find a punt returner/kick returner other than Dez Bryant!

You conviently failed to mention two other mistakes, I wonder why?

Anyways last week is last week, we've talked about that too much now it's time to beat the 9ers.

I love what I saw on defense and that's only the first game with backup corners.

Romo played well sans the mistakes hopefully the running game can get untracked this week because we all need a "W".

We as a team obviously have not "arrived" by any means, but I am encouraged by the Jets game. I cannot say I was too excited about this season prior to that game (other than the possibility of watching Dez).

I still give mad props to the players for laying it all out (mistakes not withstanding). We just have to finish next time. If we keep playing like we played the other night, I like our odds.

Exactly. This team has done nothing and from the last game they showed me pretty much what i saw from '08. A team that can go anywhere and beat anyone, but their lack of mental toughness keeps them from being championship caliber.

Go out there and play championship football. If you're up 24-10 in the 4th quarter, win the football game. No penalties to stall crucial drives, no blocked punts, no fumbles on the goalline, no dumb INTs in tie ball games on potential winning drives.

However that's all i've seen and all i really expect, whenever i get my hopes up with this team i end up being the kid who gets his pants pulled down in front of the classroom.
