This Was A Huge Loss For Garrett

Notice, though, how that moniker doesn't guarantee that we'll play hard. Just being called America's Team didn't inspire the Cowboys to make a game of it when we were down early against Jacksonville and Green Bay.

You saw those games. We weren't even competitive. That "the mighty have fallen" is old news. This game against the Saints ended up having much more in common with our wins than with those losses, just against better competition and with slimmer playoff chances.

If you see no difference between this latest loss and the losses to Green Bay and J-ville, let me remind you that if the team had given Wade this kind of effort in those two games and still lost, he'd still be here. That do it for ya?

So now the Jacksonville and Green Bay games are our standard?

Where did he call it a standard? Really curious to hear the answer to this.

If you've got a fever of 103, and take medicine that makes it go down to 100, do you consider 100 to be your normal body temperature?

jerry jones is the grand pooh-bah of the knee-jerk talent-hater club. Garrett had this job locked up after game one. NO offensive coordinator makes more than a HC other than in Dallas. jerry had Garrett earmarked from day one. Why else would he buy him from other potential coaching positions?

With that said;
Garrett had solidified his HC gig after the giants game. The rest of this season is player and staff eval. and nothing more. Thank God for that and thank God for Garrett doing the evaluation, I hope. I'm praying for Stephen to somehow keep jerry at bay. That's the biggest obsatcle we need to overcome this season. The HC gig takes a back seat to that, IMO.

For the record - I want Garrett as head coach. I don't want someone else brought in and we start all over. Our window is becoming a slightly ajar door. Watching these past few games I not only see a marked improvement in the overall play and desire, I see a coach trying to outwit another ball club with the talent he has, including the current staff. Garrett has "it" ladies and gentlemen. If you can't see he's the man for this job.............. I really don't know what to tell you.

Garrett was not paid more than Wade.

In all likelihood, Garrett is going to have to post 4-4 or 5-3 record to keep his job. Anything less is just going to be a hard sell to the fans.

He is currently 2-1 and with the Colts next week, probably 2-2.

So, assuming we lose to the Colts, Garrett could be looking at needing to win 3 of his last 4 games to finsih his interium period with a winning record.

Roy Williams just costed Garrett a very, very, very valuable win today that he really, really, really needed. If we lose to the Colts and then probably lose to Philly as well, Garrett may come up 1 win short of having a winning record.

Roy Williams might have costed Garrett his job today (depending on how we finish the season). Bottom line is that if Garrett does not have a winning record as an interium HC, he is not going to be given an extension on the spot. He may still get the job, but there will be an extensive interview process. I personally like Garrett and I hope he gets the job, but I also realize that winning is the bottom line and if Garrett is 4-4 or worse, it is going to be a hard sell to the fans.

no it won't. *most* of the fans realize where garrett is and understand he got handed a huge bag of festering poo.

the only ones who will hold him to 4-4 or better to "live" are those charter members of the IGS (instant gratifications society) who must have something NOW or it's hell forever.

garrett sold me and i wasn't interested in him before. but he's getting back to the basics and getting this team of olympic underachievers and has them winning again.

the NO loss could easily have happened when we were 7-2 also. they're a good team and they'll find ways to win.

we're doing that again too.

garrett is just fine - except for those who just like to be bitter.

This game wasn't a huge loss for Garrett any more than the Giant and Lion games were huge wins.

Let's see how things play out for the remainder of the season before any proclamations, one way or the other, are made on his fate.

What the hell are you talking about???

We are discussing how many wins it will take for Jerry to be able to "sell Garrett" to the rich fat cats in the suites. Check out the cliff notes I posted in this thread if you are having a hard time following along. SDOG also had a good thread talking about this very same thing.

Nobody is bitter bro, we are talking about the reality of if Jerry can hire Garrett and how many wins it will take for the "fat cats" to go along with it. Try reading the entire thread next time, I have not idea where you got that anybody was "bitter".

Apparently the word standard is hidden in between some stuff?

Come on. Don't waste my time.

usually "fat cats" are rich because they're "smart" and they know what garrett is up against.

What has Red done to show you he's good at evaluating talent?

Does his playing MBIII so much show you he's great at evaluating the best RB? If that is an example of his evaluation skills (as was his wanting Brad Johnson that one year) we are doomed.

Nobody, (including you) has any idea why they dont play Tashard Choice more, but there is OBVIOUSLY a reason.

Garrett and Peete see this guy everyday. Obviously something is going on behind the scenes that we arnt privvy to.

I cant see Garrett sacrificing chances to win games right now, knowing he needs to have the team do well to get the HC job permanently.

Beats the hell out of jerry and Wade, imo.

Dude, he's playing with the talent he has. It's really simple. Don't give me Choice as an option. There's a reason WHY this dude doesn't play. I don't know it, but I'd bet ya Garrett does. Who else do we have?

Yeah, usually BFE make a lot of sense. But not on this topic right here. If anything, the Saints game was a wash. We still have 2 good games and on neutral game to judge JG off of.

Still a lot of time left.

If, somehow, he screws things up from a standpoint where we're just getting blown out then I think we at least take those "other interviews" seriously.

I have repeated many times in this thread what we are discussing. SDOG had a good thread also about how Jerry wants to hire Garrett as the full time coach but he has to be able to "sell Garrett" to the rich fat cats in the suites. Those are the guys that Jerry gets most of his money from and those are the guys that have to go along with Garrett being HC over Cowher or Gruden or some other big name.

So the whole debate here is "how many wins will it take for the rich fat cats to accept Garrett as HC over some big name like Cowher?". Considering that an interium HC with a losing record is going to be a "hard sell", Garrett needs as many wins as possible.

A win over the defending SB Champs would have been a big plus for Garrett when it comes time to "sell him" to the fat cats. I really dont understand why posters cant seem to understand this, seriously "drunk posting"?

I see where you're coming from. Maybe the problem is with me. I think that no matter what you owe it to the team to interview coaches seriously for Garrett's spot.

It should be up for grabs, but Garrett should be a serious candidate.

I apologize for the harsh language. I wasn't picking on you. I just didn't read past the OP and assumed your conclusion was that it was a "bad" loss. I think, all and all, and in when it's all said and done.. the New Orleans game will be taken into consideration -- and, imo, Garrett comes out on top because he nearly won the damn game.

What irks me, is Dallas could easily be 8-3 right now..... :banghead:
