I was very impressed with LVE’s play in his rookie year. I think most people were.
At some point, along the way, his play looked very suspect to most fans, including me. He still has the ability to be a “thumper” if he is able to square up on a player and make contact.
What I think most of his detractors would point out is that:
1. He often is out of position to make a play on both running plays and passing plays.
2. His change of direction seems to be “off”. Whether that is physical or mental, or by assignment the performance is the same. The cause might be different and what is causing it might be fixable or not fixable depending on what the underlying cause is.
I think LVE has played better this year than last, and he is not complete trash. There has been a time or two this year where he has made some difference making positive plays.
If you want to focus on the positives, you can make the case that he is a pretty solid player. Or you can focus on the negatives, and there are still more negative plays than I would like to see.
My analysis is that if LVE is the worst player on your team, that’s probably OK. But he is not a difference maker on the defense currently.
If he sticks around it should be on a near veteran minimum deal and we should be looking to upgrade the position. He should be a quality spot player or backup and not a startinglevel linebacker on a team that wants to win a SB.
