Thoughts on Claiborne returning

Do you ever go down nostalgia road and look into the rest of the first round in that draft after Claiborne?

With Barron reinventing himself as a 3-4 LB, this could go down as one of the best runs of defensive players in draft history. After Claiborne, of course.
Don't care about that. Teams make errors like that all the time. The crucial part of this flub was the fact we chose the wrong player to trade up for. Those were the salad days for the organization's sickness for corners where they used draft capital to trade up for Claiborne and paid a mint to Carr. Both situations were failures in talent evaluation.

Claiborne was "the best defender" in that draft, or so we were told the day after the draft.

Jones is going to be one of the players Dallas wont be able to afford next off season. He doesn't create any turnovers to justify being kept, in my opinion.

Morris has been under two consecutive 1 year deals around that salary for the last two seasons.
He and Lawrence were the 2 players Stephen cited in November as being the prioritys to sign this offseason. Has something changed?

This signing is under the condition that Byron Jones walks in free agency next off season so we can net a 3rd round comp pick for him in exchange. Claiborne would be a nice option to have available this year and next. He has gotten over the injury bug.

Why do some fans seem to value draft picks over proven players? There's no reason to downgrade a starting position just so we can get a pick that may or may not work out. If Jones plays great this season, then he's worth a second contract and we can use the picks we do have on other positions because we won't have to address his.

Some of you guys seem to be obsessed with letting quality starters walk for a potential 3rd round comp the following year. Yay we signed a bridge player so we can replace the one that walked in the next draft. Now that one needs to develop and hopefully not be a complete bust. Such a great strategy for roster building. You guys make the Jonses look like savants.

I swear some of you would only accept a proven commodity if it came from another roster.

I don’t unfairly hate Claiborne like a lot of people here, but we have many more pressing needs other than CB.

Claiborne was overerdrafted, but he’s not a terrible player. His issues have been with injuries more than anything, and he’s still started 73 games in the league.

Yeah. We are pissing off cap dollars on Sean Lee and Witten so we might as well piss some off on Mo too.

Good thing we missed out on them.
