Thoughts on LVE's performance?

Tremaine Edmunds is bigger, faster, from a bigger school and has more experience
hes considered a 'probowl' talent in draft grade
hes going to be very good, i would bet in time he will be a scary dude
this was his 1st game

these are the top comments in order:
  • I'm glad the Raiders didn't draft this bum
  • He looks lost lol
  • Doesn't take good angles nor does he show good gap discipline. He could improve of course, but that's where he's at right now
  • He looks poorly coached. Not reacting , unsure of what to do.
  • He's not nfl ready yet low IQ cam had 22 wide open
  • Didn't look so good
  • He takes a bunch of bad angles. Whomever said his strength will work in the NFL was wrong
  • His awareness on Madden is gonna be hella low! Lol he still a pup tho only 20 , he probably needs to redshirt a year from the looks of this but it's early.
  • It's more of a mccaffery highlight video
just saying
this guy will beast but he was taken before Vander Esch

Yeah, he looks very hesistant in that video. Looks like he just wants to start running and hit something but he's not sure where to go - bites on almost every play fake, takes crappy angles, etc.

Linebacker is one of the tougher positions to learn as a pro, especially in a defense like we run because they have so many responsibilities. I don't think we should be surprised if Vander Esch starts out in a limited role and gets more playing time as the season progresses.

Fortunately, it looks like Jaylon has caught on so we're not in as much of a rush right now.

Me personally, I am a little disappointed.
It's like I said before we drafted him; he's going to take development. I think the Cowboys are taking the long-view, though. They may see him as Lee's eventual replacement. For it not to haunt them, they need Jaylon to step up and Lee to remain healthy.

I thought he got better as the game went on.
he'll get there.

...my first impression is Bobby Carpenter. But wait... its only first game, he's a rookie. Lots of room for learning. Hoping for better instincts, as those cant be taught.

BUST

Everyone knew it beforehand. But the homer media did their very best to convince us otherwise. If he doesnt bite as a pup, he won't bite as a fully grown dog. LVE doesnt have any bite. He may develop into a decent starter. But he never was worthy of first round consideration. I said the same about Byron Jones.

thx for the perspective.

Let's hope he doesn't turn out to be Barbie Carpenter but I fully admit when we draft Barbie I thought it was a good pick. I was not board with LVE, wanted Edwards ( picked before us) or lb from Alabama but after reading some things on him I think he will be a good one. At least I hope he is.

He could be a star someday, but I was in the camp that did not have to draft him that early

He’s a Cowboy now, so I’m all in

Still cant believe Derwin James almost fell in our laps. But from what I hear, we may've passed and taken Vander Esch anyway.
Think I wouldnt blacked if that happened:laugh:

I am disappointed by the pick but not by his performance.

He needs 2 years to be a force in the game. We knew that when we drafted him. He is a kid and has basically no experience at the position. And there are not alot of MLBs like Brian Bosworth who come out of College and dominate from day one.

I didn't have high expectations for his first time out... So I was neither impressed or disappointed.

..same here bro. Hoping he is a gem that needs to be polished. Looks abit on the slow side, reaction that is. But he is big and could be huge for filling those holes.

Box score says he made four unassisted tackles.

Just wait....this kid will fly to the football. It's just a matter of time before it all clicks for him. Honestly....It's a different scheme for him to pick up. BSU ran a lot of 3-3-4...w/ LVE as your MLB....Cowboys are running basically a nickle package 4-2-5...so there is going to be a learning curve for sure. And...he is making all the calls as well...so props to him for getting everyone in the right set for his first game.

He was definitely struggling with the mental side of the pros.
Give him some time and I bet he starts to pick it up as the season goes along.
The play where he had the near-INT he was covering the TE across the field and seemed to maintain tight coverage, at least from the broadcast view.
Maybe somebody with All-22 could check out that play?

Probably the jitters of first time playing at pro level. Millions watching, different team, new schemes, new environment, etc.

Middle linebacker, has a lot to think about, a lot of responsibilities he has to balance besides the actual plays. I'm sure his head was swimming. Ask me again after the 3rd preseason game.

Sturm said he needed to get into the weight room. That will help him shed blockers.

He was repositioning players around him during the game. Good sign.

My thoughts, he may not start at the beginning of the season. But that should not be held against him. So many make a deal out of first round picks, when they all have some issues. Esch will work those out. He will be a little lost for a while. But his true potential needs time to thrive.

If he is not getting this by the start of next year, then it is time to worry. But we should see steady improvement this entire season.

Esch needs to show us.
