Three reasons I KNOW Jerry will trade up

I know the profile of the man. I see the future.

1. People who thrive on the high profile only come to hunger it more. Ask Bilbo or Frodo...or Sméagol--the cravings only grow. Sitting in the late twenties is far too close to plebeian anonymity and meaninglessness for Jerry's taste, particularly coming off the giddy success of the NBA all-star game and some long awaited playoff success. He didn't like missing the first round last year and drafting in the high twenties feels like a repeat of the same. It's a trade-up this year.

2. Playmakers versus Volume. Jerry knows this team doesn't have a lot of holes but it needs some playmakers. Special talent is what wins in this league.

3. Jerry likes to surprise. He's been master of the trade down--something I'm generally in favor of in the draft. This year he'll want to throw everyone a curve.

Bonus reason:
Jerry figures in 2011 and 2012 he'll be able to land some big free agents. But his hands are tied for any big moves in free agency this season. He'll go instead for a home run in the draft.

There just isn't enough ammunition and we have a few needs that we would like to fill. We may move up a couple of spots here and there if someone we crave drops close to our pick and we don't want to mess around anymore (like Jenkins in 2008 and Spencer in 2007) but we won't fly up into the top 10 to get that instant starter at LT.

It's possible Jerry could move up a few spots seeing we're picking at #27 but his MO lately has been to trade down and collect draft picks. If you're seeing a big trade up for one of the elite players then you must have dropped your crystal ball Carnac. From what I've been hearing this is one of the deepest drafts in years so I don't expect Jerry to cough up a bunch of picks to trade up for one player when there could be a sold player available if we stay pat or move up a couple of spots. The draft is too much of a crapshoot to gamble several picks on one player. The Cowboys need help in several areas and like you mentioned they're not going to be able to do much if anything in free agency so that has added extra importance to the draft this year.

How you gonna drop knowledge like this and then don't even drop a name on us.

I don't think he trades up in the first rd. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him trade up into the third or fourth rd, especially if he trades back into the second rd from the first. I doubt he would trade up in the first for an offensive lineman. I guess the bigger question would be if any players are tradeable come draft day.

Really? Do you feel 100% on this Hos?

I don't see us trading WAY up, but you don't think there's a chance we'd move up a handful of spots to grab a player we really covet? I would think that last year's Unger incident would have Jerry thinking "move up a few spots" if necessary to make sure we get our guy (if there's a player we love that we feel has slid a bit).
I just hope that at least one guy that we really like slides to us. How lucky were that Giants to draft at the end of the 1st and have the top safety Phillips (their greatest need at the time) slide all the way to them? God I hate that team...We're 27th and hoping for like the 3rd best safety or 4th best OL.

Hopefully, things work out for us and the draft comes to us.

The only reason I could think this might be possible is the Super Bowl being played in our stadium this coming year, and the thought that an impactful rookie could help get us there.

But ultimately, I don't think us trading up is a legitimate possibility.

This is the main reason why I think it will not happen. Most teams have their hands tied with free agency, so they will also place a premium on draft picks this year. It will cost even more to move p this year.

Jerry stays were he is, but may move a few spots to grab someone close to our draft position.

I am never 100% on anything about football. What if someone too good to pass up is sliding? Then I can see it. But no one has slid yet. The likelihood of this is roughly about the same as me watching 2 seconds of soccer today.

won't fault your logic. I could see us trying to trade up if someone like Anthony Davis or Dez Bryant or Earl Thomas slipped a little. In fact, with all that talk from those that cover the Boys about us wanting to upgrade the FS position if Earl Thomas made it past the Giants and Steelers I could see us trying to jump in front of Houston to make a play for him. Ditto for Dez and Baltimore. Trading up is definitely a possibility however the biggest problem is how would we do it? We can't afford to give up much picks-wise. In fact, I'd argue that we need three players from the first two rounds or four from the first three....which will likely require trading down from 27. If Thomas, Bryant, and all the good LTs (Davis, Okung, Bulaga) are gone (which is very likely) I think we'll take Iupati or trade down. Iupati could very well be gone too, in which case I foresee taking Pouncey or trading down. Wouldn't be a terrible trade-off to trade down for an extra second and pick up Ducasse or Asamoah plus one of Damian Williams, Nate Allen, Spikes, or Gilyard (all of who I see gone in round 2) in the second or two of that latter and Valdeer in the third.
