Jerry just said last year if Maclin would've fell a little further they were going to move up to get him.

So I suspect there is a certain group of players that Jerry would move up for.

With the juniors esp coming out this year, this is now a deeper draft. If anything, I'd suspect JJ stays at 27 or moves down a couple of spots and re-coups his 5th (or tries to get another 3rd or 4th rounder).

As for the argument we don't have enough holes for so many players . . . . that's untrue, IMO.

For example,

FB - position we could/should easily upgrade
WR - Can use one more speed guy
OL - Could use 1-2 more guys to develop
ILB
Safety
CB
Kicker
NT - Someone to at least develop and share quality reps

That's easily 8-9 guys.

For example,

FB - Free Agency
WR - Ford, Gettis, Tindal
OL - Ducasse, Veldheer, Pouncey
ILB - Micah Johnson, Sean Lee, Brandon Spikes
Safety - Earl Thomas, Nate Allen, Robert Johnson, Myron Rolle
CB- Long name guy, Chris Cook, Arenas
Kicker- BPA
NT - Geno Atkins, BPA

That's easily 8-9 guys.

This probably means some trades:starspin

the chance of a trade down>>the chance of a trade.
. this draft has a lot of talent to be had in the 2nd year.I think Jerry will trade down if the players are not there at 27.

I am never 100% on anything about football. What if someone too good to pass up is sliding? Then I can see it. But no one has slid yet. The likelihood of this is roughly about the same as me watching 2 seconds of soccer today.

Between the "not a chance" and the "2 seconds of soccer" comment, I guess it's like 99.9% or something. I personally hope we don't move up since it means giving up another pick (or picks), but I can see it happening if our guy is getting close and we're afraid somebody will do what Seattle did last year. I'm not sure why you (and many others) are so sure, but it's all speculation anyway.

110% in agreement with the OP.

Despite the 5000 posts here suggesting we go bulk shopping again, I think Jerry makes the move up this year.

Primetime draft + the fact we are only a few players away from being THE Superbowl contender is what I'm banking on. Jerry will be limited in free agency, the Draft is his chance to make a splash.

And right tackle, but I like your thinking.

We got Colombo and Free for the right.

The D isn't losing games but the amount of turnovers our safeties get is comical.

If you get this defense a playmaker at safety than you help the entire team.

Fix the O-line and get a decent kicker... And nobody beats us... ever...

I just don't think a rookie safety - will be a playmaker

anybody in our range anyway

You're probably right but it's a position that needs upgrading and could put our pass D over the top.

Scouts say Hamlin lines up deeeeep downfield.

A new safery would be a luxury? Oh man I couldn't disagree more with that. After OL that is the single most need on our team.

Unless you are planning to trade into the top 3 surely no team goes into the draft planning to trade up.

Now I'm no expert, but from our position I would think you wait and see who is still there after pick #20 or so, and then if there's someone you really want left, look at the cost to trade up then.

Nah....rather trade down and pick up a 3rd and 5th.

2a
2b
3a
3b
4
5
6
7

This draft would help us more and we'll be in a better position for guys like Pouncey, Ducasse and Veldheer.

I'm ready for Procter, McQuistan and Holland to hit the road.

Maybe a Mike Jenkins trade up, but definitely not a Ricky Williams one.

I agree with your second point...but points 1 and 2 are hilarious.
Hey, if a super talent and value is there a few slots higher and he doesn't have to give up too much...go for it. Otherwise, 27 (or lower) is just fine in this draft.

People that say they want to trade up or down before the draft even evolves don't understand the draft, imo. You let the draft come to you to some degree and then be bold when the value is there--up or down. You cannot know that before the draft even begins to unfold except for maybe pick #1 or #2 overall.

his MO lately has been to trade down and collect draft picks.
I fully expect the trade down to recoup the pick lost for Montrae Holland. He has been fairly consistent in trying to have a full complement each round.
