that was shades of Garrett showing up in Moore's head....very vanilla. run the same route for all WRs. no imagination. bad play calling. never set up the defense with his play calling. this was by far his worst game ever

I don't think the receivers had time to get deep.
It was strange as Dak was under pressure. And our defense didn't even touch their QB's. 1st game where defense did not have a sack.

However the run defense came up big when really needed.

We are limited by the quarterback. I don't know why this has to be questioned over and over. He threw one deep ball to Noah Brown which Noah Brown had to turn around run back 5 yards and dive to make the catch

Houston was playing shell cover 2 defense, very difficult to beat them over the top in that scheme. Way to beat it, is take what is given underneath and running the football.

That’s bs. Lot times they were loading the box. That’s why you get paid big $. Scheme players open. Piss poor play calling.

This. If you don't have a burner who can crease the zone it's difficult to get over the top. Not to mention they have an outstanding Safety in Pitre who was everywhere. Dude is a stud.

Kellen seems scared to call a passing play more than 12-15 yards down field. I'll never understand why. Dak/Rush are the least sacked QB in the league. Open up the offense and make it easier on the running game. I completely HATE watching them run against 8-9 man fronts.

The two throws Dak tried yesterday that could be considered "deep" he underthrew by a mile.

He is limited in what he can do. Therefore the offense is limited in what it can do.

They do need to stretch the field more often. As I've said in the past, I'd like to see four go routes per game and four designed runs by Dak per game. Make the defense defend the whole field and everyone on it. That took one deep shot yesterday and it worked out. Increase that number and they will get PI calls as well as a couple of completions.

PS - The Dak to Gallup go route on the left side has always worked in the past.

All these short to mid-range passes are very dangerous too. Seems like there’s too many defenders close by for all the drops, deflections, etc. Being at the game, it was frustrating for them not to go deep and I noticed especially Gallup was open several times.

Exactly. Early in the game. Like maybe first pass play. Gallup was behind the D. Anything out in front of him gives him a chance to at least catch it if not score.

I think Dak was hit on that play. I was thinking the same thing until they showed the replay.

By the time he threw it he had a defender coming at him & couldn't fully step into it but he wasn't impacted until after the ball was gone. Which is one of his limitations. He doesn't have that ability to generate power without having good full body form.

But, I'm pretty sure the ball should have already been in the air. Meaning he could have gotten the pass off before the defender broke through.

Defense is designed to keep everything in front of them, they force teams to have long drives by taking the underneath passes.

Disagree, defense is designed to take away the big plays over the top, especially on 3rd and distance. Dak had to be more patient and take what was given, rather then forcing throws into tight windows. Also, keep in mind, Ball was struggling badly, didn't have time in the pocket, either.
