Remember in the Seattle playoff game when we'd stay in base 3-4 defense when Seattle rolled out 4 and 5 receiver sets?

Those were good times.

We aren't allowed to bash that regimes coaching or certain people get upset.

Jerk that seatbelt up tight folks, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

My sphincter is clinched to the seat in a death grip...LET'S ROLL. :laugh2:

Yup. Everyone be safe and drive well behind these folks because with every sports radio news story you could be risking your neck.

The question I have is were they against Bartel/Johnson or Romo. Makes a world of difference to me.

...Helio Castoneves.

Henry had like 10 INTs as a FS for the Browns when he first came into the league before moving to CB, if I'm correct. I think the main point of all this is that Henry will be a very capable FS in both run support and pass protection, and that should come as good news.

In building continuity into this team and this defense, its nice to know Henry will be around for several years to come. Hamlin did a terrific job not only playing but making sure everyone knew their responsibilities in the secondary last year. I hope he stays, but I think we have good leverage thanks to Henry.

He didn't play free safety for the Browns. He played cornerback.

Roy's cap hit would be huge. We'd immediately go into "cap hell".

Henry played FS for the Browns, and made 10 Int's there.

Oh, wait....maybe we could get an reference sticky for things like this.

Amazing how often this misnomer gets repeated

I have no problem with that at all. We have the CB depth, why not use it?

I have said before that teams play so much 3 and 4 WR sets that a Nickel or Dime is going to become more and more a base D.

This is exactly what Stew said was the plan from what I took from his interview yesterday.

Right Hos, is that what you heard as well?

It's just smart football and I think Roy Williams would agree here if he wanted the team to be successful.

Safety position

Calvin Watkins E-mail News tips

Todd had a great blog item about Anthony Henry playing in the Dime packages and moving to safety.

We assume Pacman Jones will start along with Terence Newman at corner this season. Right?

If not, having Henry starting at corner isn't a bad thing. The man led the NFL in picks last season before he got hurt. And when the season was over he was tied with Newman for passes defended with 15 and led the team in interceptions with six.

Moving Henry to free safety, something that he's open too, is a good thing. Henry played safety in college and his strong coverage skills don't make him a liability there. The question today is how does Roy Williams take it?

Knowing Roy, he'll be upset, but support Henry's move to safety. (Ken Hamlin will move to strong safety).

Roy Williams can play a linebacker role in some defensive packages and if the Cowboys plan on him to have more fun on the field this season, he should be able to roam around and make punishing hits on defenders.

Also, it will be interesting to see how my cousin, Patrick Watkins, performs this season. He started nine games his rookie season at free safety over vet Keith Davis, though I thought that was more about former coach Bill Parcells being upset that Davis was shot that summer, than about ability.

Anyway, the safety position will have some interesting play this season. The coaches and several players have also talked about second-year man Courtney Brown's development.

Of course, defensive coordinator Brian Stewart raves about Hamlin all the time. Hamlin is the key to this position, more than anybody else.

I read this and I think Calvin already has Henry on the 'he's the starting FS for 2008' train, which I do not think is even at the station just yet.

Amazing how many people forget the talk about him his 10 interceptions as a safety in Cleveland when he was signed in 2005. It was only 3 years ago!

I remember the talk, it was as false then as it is now.

His rookie year in Cleveland he started out as the #3 CB, by the end of the year he was starting.

Dallascowboys.com will confirm

Henry started two games as a rookie.

In Week 13, he started at nickel back against the Patriots (who started three wide receivers). Earl Little and Devin Bush were the starting safeties.

In Week 14, Henry started at right cornerback against the Jaguars in place of Daylon McCutheon. Little and Bush were the starting safeties again.

In the final three games, Henry was back to coming off the bench.

I know this though, with us having a couple new corners on the team, and Henry tearing it up at safety, Hamlin could actually be in trouble (because of his Money situation), I pray not, but who knows what goes through the minds of the Front Office.

Longest sentence of the month....;)
