Tiger Woods athlete of the decade?? A Rant about Golf

I firmly believe the two toughest athletic feats are trying to hit a baseball from a major league pitcher,
That's just a silly cliche. There are literally hundreds of MLBers that can do it and tens of thousands more in the minors or college level that could do it too. Heck you can take any reasonably athletic guy off the street, give him some batting practice and 100 ABs against the average Major League pitcher, and he'll eventually find his way into a bloop single. Just look at Pedro Martinez. Guy has the ugliest swing you'll ever see and yet he still managed to stumble into a base hit this past season.

The toughest singular athletic feat is probably something like a quadruple lutz or something like that (I don't follow figure skating so I may have the terminology wrong). But isn't that the jump that only, like, a dozen men on the planet can actually do?

MJ was athlete of the decade in the 90s IIRC.

I doubt he was the most athletic person competing in sports, yet, he won. Its ATHLETE of the decade.

NOT most athletic.

Tiger dominated this decade perhaps like no other athlete has dominated their field, hence, the award.

he doesn't even run. he doesn't count as an athlete to me.

I agree. I have played the game a long time also played organized football, baseball and ran track. All require athletic ability as does golf. I have seen people play who do not have an ounce of athletic ability try and play golf and were miserable in attempting it. It may look easy but there is a lot to the game from a physical stand point and a mental stand point. It is not by accident that you see many top athletes involved in the game of golf.

If you don't have athletic ability, I don't care how many hours you put into learning the game of golf, how many hours of practice, you'll never be able to compete with the top players... conversely, no matter how athletic you might be, if you're unable or unwilling to work hard at the game, you'll never be able to compete with the top players...

Ask Michael Jordan... :D

Then I guess by your definition, gymnasts aren't athletes either...

I could get an under par drunk, silverbear

Sure you could...

You couldn't break 100 on an easy course if I gave you a mulligan on each tee... give me three weeks to teach a Barbary ape to play, and he could spot you three a side, and beat you like a rented mule...

don't give me that crap!

I'm sorry, what kind of crap would you prefer??

Perhaps a nice bag filled with diarrhea??

:D

No doubt about it. I have been playing the game since I was 7, I currently hold a 5 handicap but I have to constantly work at it. Seems like when one part of the game is going great another part is in need of work. Those who have never played the game really do not seem to understand what it takes to be a professional in the PGA or the variouse skills you must have to play this game at it's highest level and with these young guys coming up on the tour the competition level is very high

it's not easy at all. it's also very gay

How is it gay? I did not see one event that invloved male to male sexual contact. I see more pro football players patting each other on the butt that seems a bit more gay. :laugh2:

I would not doubt some could be gay but it really does not take away from the athletic ability and upper body strength these men have in performing at a world class level. Also hate to tell you will likely find gay people in all sports including the NFL.

Sorry I did not see anything gay going on. Floor Exercise is not my cup of tea but I respect the strength, agility and body control that it takes. Give that boy the ball at the 1 yard line and he is flying over the top. :laugh2:

I guess the conversation is over for me too. I didn't see anything gay about that clip either.

It must mean we are secure in our masculinity. :laugh2:
